Lent has begun and that means ethnic food sales on Fridays are a plenty here in NEPA....
My church is once again having their Potato Pancake Sales every Friday til Easter....
These were a favorite of Joe's and also a favorite of my son Joey.....
I will be getting them for Dinner every Friday.....
Catholics do not eat meat on Fridays during Lent....
Some other ethnic foods that many churches, fire companies and even restaurants here are offering during Lent are Pagash.....
Traditional Polish Pagash is a pie like this...
Many churches are also offering Haluski
A lot of fire companies are holding home made pizza sales and fish fries.....
Clam chowder sales are also a favorite in NEPA.....
NEPA is rich in Eastern European and Italian heritage and our food definitely still reflects that!!
On Fat Tuesday, all bakeries, including those in grocery stores, here were busy making Paczki
These Polish donuts are filled with fruits or Bavarian creme....
These are similar to the German Pennsylvania Dutch Fastnachts which are also quite popular here...
And that concludes my lesson on the Ethnic Foods for Lent in NEPA!!
LOL!
I also want to announce several new LINK BLOG PARTIES that will be hosted by Sarah, over at Classical Homemaking:Vintage Living for the Modern Homemaker!!!
Sarah is a Blogger I knew from many years ago that has recently come back to blogging....
She will be hosting Vintage Finds Friday....
Her original party from years ago Classical Homemaking Party on Thursday's....
And will also be hosting a classic party that so many of us older Bloggers loved but hers will open on a Sunday, Pink Sunday!!!
The very first link party I joined 15 years ago when I started my blog was Beverly's Pink Saturday and my first link up was about my Doll House!
Beverly no longer blogs so I am so glad that Sarah will be continuing a long time blogging link party tradition!!!
So fellow Bloggers, PLEASE link up to Sarah's new parties!!!!
Today, I am continuing my tour of the Living Room decorated for Easter, sharing my 7 ft.Seasonal Tree, now decorated for Easter, along with Bunny Land on the platform that the Tree is set up on........
I stripped the Tree down to the lights and added 2 sets of LED pink lights that actually look purple....
I made a topper for the Tree using some florals and an Easter Egg lawn stake.....
I made the bow out of 3 different ribbons including purple and aqua colored deco mash....
Next I added pink beaded garland and egg garland to the Tree......
A few years ago, I made Bunny Butts out of snow balls I bought on Clearance after Christmas......
Here's a closer look.....
After I took the initial pictures for this post, I found a yard sign and decided to use it for the Bunny Land that I set up under the Tree on the platform that my Dad made for me 47 years ago....
See it in the left hand corner.....
So I moved some things to different places, like my Easter basket that I had a a child which I will share in a future post....
On the left side.....
I bought this beauty at a yard sale......
She lost an eye which I will replace once I get time to do so....
I made the floral arrangement in this tin basket that I bought in Michael's at 90% off several years ago......
I placed 2abranch tree in a gold pot and surrounded it with greenery for the trees in "the park!"
I did not put the batteries in them to light them up as I did not want to have to crawl in there and take them apart to replace the batteries once they died....
You can see the lawn sigh I added in this picture....
Next to the basket is a glass egg that Joe bought for 90% in Big Lot's that I added a set of fairy lights to....
Both vintage and vintage styled paper mache eggs are on the "grass" ( a table runner) in front of them....
I made these carrots out of carrot gift bags from Dollar Tree.....
Thanks to those who took the time out of their busy day to spend a little bit of time with me!!
If you do not have a blog, PLEASE give me some way to reply to your comment, maybe by including your email in your comment. If I can not find a way to reach you, I will reply on the post where you commented so please check back......

ReplyDeleteWe do have a very large Catholic Community here, but more and more of the fish fries stopped after Covid. I think there is one out in the country at the American Legion and one in a near by village. The little stand at the end of our street used to feature a delicious perch dinner during lent, but there are new owners and when we tried it last year, the first time the fish was undercooked and the second time it was burnt. It's too expensive to risk it again. And no one makes clam chowder, pierogis or pagash, or haluski (my husband is the Polish one and his mom used to make all that). So basically it's me. This week it was fish sticks. . . such a disappointment.
Hi Deb..love your Easter tree and Bunny Land! Very festive and springy!
ReplyDeleteI'm planning to join Sarah's Pink Sunday. Pink Saturday was the first blog I linked up to. Hope I remember how to link up again. Been a long time!
Hugs..Barb
I wouldn't miss meat a bit with all of those other delicious things to eat. Enjoyed seeing how you put your tree together. The Dollar tree topiary is adorable. Hope you will share what you wind up doing with it for the finishing touches.
