I also want to thank her for her sweet and encouraging
words..
"Debbie from Debbie Dabble brings so much personality and fun to
everything she shares. I love how she wraps up all the celebrations in
her signature style. You can feel the joy in every word. PS… I know Joe was watching and enjoying everything from the heavens."
Thanks again, Andrea!!

And now for a few Personal Notes...
The Catholic Church celebrated Epiphany on January 4th this year even though the official date is January 6th...
I wait until Epiphany to start to take down Christmas because that is the official end of the Christmas Season....
So I started with the Powder Room, which is now changed over to Winter/Valentine's....
And I am just about finished with the Den in changing it over from Christmas to Winter....
In those 2 rooms, I do leave out some things from Christmas for my Winter decor so I can get these rooms done a lot faster than when I decorated them for Christmas.....
And for the first time, I did a bit of Winter decorating in my bedroom as I have been spending my evenings watching TV up there and turning down the heat and lights off downstairs to help decrease my Electric bill as my townhouse is all electric....
Apparently, it worked as my PPL bill for this past December was $25 LESS than last year's December bill and we just had the coldest and snowiest December in about a decade!!
I will be doing posts on all these rooms in the future.....
We have had a big January Thaw here in NEPA with temps. in the high 40's, even low 50's....
That will be ending by tomorrow, Sunday...
I took advantage of that warmer weather to change over the Front Porch and Yard from Christmas to Winter....
I have decorated the outside of my house for Winter for many years after seeing it done on a decorating show hosted by Lynette Jennings.....
This also saves me an incredible amount of time when changing it over from Christmas to New Year's as I leave many decorations up and only remove those specific to Christmas....
I hope that at some time in the future, I will be able to post pictures of how it all looks with Snow as Snow makes everything look better.....
And here in NEPA, our Winters can last well into the beginning of April as we have even had snow for Easter...
If you would like to see how my Front Porch and Yard looked decorated for Christmas....
I leave all the garland up until March.....
I also left all the real and faux greenery in the pots out but removed any type of Christmas items I may have displayed inside of them....
The theme for Winter for the outside of my townhouse is Snowmen and Red Cardinals.....
I left the beautiful porch sign that my great niece Caitlin made for me....
This "tree" is actually the top part of my old Dining Room Tree and I will be replacing the 25+ year old tree in the corner of the porch with it come Spring.....

I topped it off with a plaid bow and a red cardinal.....

My Dad's tool box, a Winter gnome and a Pittsburgh Steeler's gnome since that was my late husband's football team and they are still in the running....
I removed a candy cane from this pot.....

I bought this "Winter Wishes" rug before Christmas in Ocean State Job Lot....
I left the garland around the door as is....
I changed out the Wreath for a Winter one that I made....
Snowmen and Red Cardinals.....
I recently bought these ski's in Ocean State Job Lot and added some plaid ribbon and a pine cone to the bow in the center to match the ribbon on the wreath....
I also left all the plaid bows out and packed away some of the red velvet bows...
I changed out the signs hanging off the weeping mortar on the front of my house....
Several years ago, I combined several things that Joe bought for 90% off in Big Lots to make this "Winter Wonderland" sign.....
This is what it looked liked originally....
I added this sign.....
And a plaid bow....
Then glued this to the bottom of it....
And added pine cones and a snow ball....
I really do like how it came out....
The Snowman that my husband Joe bought in Wegman's....
I changed out the green bulb for a red one in the porch light....
And changed out the bow for one made out of ribbon with Red Cardinals on it....

And hung a Snowman slate underneath the porch light....

I keep out my childhood sled all Winter....
I replaced Santa signs with this Snowman sign....
And added another Red Cardinal bow to the lighthouse I made from clay pots....

Another Winter wreath that I made.....
And hung a penguin slate to the right of it....
Keeping it real.....
I have to keep all of my snow removal equipment in the corner of the porch as this is my main entrance into my house....
2 shovels, a broom, an Ice chipper and a snow broom to be able to clean off my car before opening the door and having all the snow fall inside of it....
There is also a sprinkler jug of Ice Melt within reach.....
In the corner....
I left the wreath and the bough of greenery on the Living Room window and the bedroom windows but I took the wreaths off the bedroom ones as one blew off with strong winds that we had...
I topped off the tree, that I will be replacing come Spring, with another Red Cardinal bow, a flea market birdhouse that I bought for 50 cents and a Red Cardinal sign....
I bought the Welcome sign at a church flea market many years ago....
I bought this mail box cover with Snowman with Red Cardinals on it in Gabes last year....
How it looks on the other side.....
My Winter Porch flag....
The garland on the railing is the same but I removed the lighted star in the middle and the metal present yard signs in the planters....
I added a Winter star and slate to the center.....

And added some large pine cones to the planters.....
I kept the "Snow" sign up.....
In the flower bed under the Living Room window, I left the red lantern and bell out....
And removed the candy canes from the pots....
I left the net lights on the shrubs.....
The front yard.....
I packed away the Christmas solar lights....
Leaving out Snowmen and red snowflake ones.....
I left the greenery and bows on the deer....
An replaced a Santa flag with a Winter one with a Snowman and Red Cardinal on it...
The park bench....
I pretty much left it as is....
Red snowflake Dollar Tree solar lights on each side.....
This is the flag on the other side of the park bench that you can see from my parking lot....
It is starting to fade so I may look for a new one....
Again, I replaced a Christmas flag with another Red Cardinal one.....
And now how it looks in the evening all lit up......
The Front Porch will stay this way until the beginning of March, weather permitting.....
I hope you enjoyed seeing how you can still have your porch and front of your home decorated and lit up in the dead, dark Winter, shining a little light on your neighborhood.....
And I hope you will stop by to visit again on
MONDAY for my next post....
Stay safe, healthy and most of all, HAPPY!!

THURSDAY
Please take some time to visit these terrific hosts and all those joining in on the fun!
Good morning, Debbie -- Your porch transition from Christmas to Winter is fun to see -- I love all the snowmen. Brrr, you do have cold weather -- it's 46 degrees here this morning which is chilly enough for me!! Great that your electric bill has gone down -- utilities take a chunk of the budget in the cold months. Enjoy your day.
ReplyDeleteSo pretty, like you I love cardinals and the symbolism they are to hold. Lots of cardinal ornaments in the house and at least 3 pair of real ones in the garden. Hope you are having a lovely weekend. http://www.craftygardener.ca/
ReplyDeleteHi Deb, your porch looks wonderful..I think i would leave the garland around the door up year round!
ReplyDeleteCold here in Northern Nevada..it was 11 degrees the other morning, high 30s during the day.
Have a great weekend@
Hugs, Barb
I bet all your neighbors enjoy watching the changes! You have such a welcoming and beautiful front yard.
