I am a Victorian Soul, who lives in a small townhouse that was built in the mid 1970's, not a huge Mega Mansion!! I just recently lost my Hubby Joe, who was a Retired Letter Carrier. I worked night shift as an RN on a Hospital based Rehabilitation( Physical Medicine) Unit for 37 years before I had Knee Replacement Surgery and officially Retired in 2019 after 41 years working in Direct Patient Care ... I am so glad that we retired at 62 years of age and got to spend that time together before he passed....I still do love Retirement!!!!

Today I will be sharing some great things that I recently bought and where I already put some of them!!

In my last post, I shared  how I decorated my Living Room for the Summer months in the style I love, Victorian, using shades of aqua and peach.....

Click HERE if you missed that post!!

If you missed my Exciting News that I shared on Friday,........

 Please Click HERE...

Before I share some New Buys and Gifts, I feel I need to set the record straight....

I am very frequently asked....

"Where do you store all of your decorations?"

or this one makes me laugh more than the first one....

"Do you live in a big home that you have all the room to store everything?"

And of course...

"How to you dust or clean?"

To which I usually like to respond with "Who cleans?"

LMAO!!

First of all, these questions are something that I would never ever think of asking anyone because I, personally, never think about any of them myself.....

Nor would I ever ask anyone those questions because , as I mentioned, I never think about these things for myself and it is truly no one else's business...

Honestly, every time someone does ask me these things, I sort of feel sorry for them because I love the thrill of the hunt or the surprise of finding a special piece and I truly would hate to stop after finding that piece to think about cleaning or storage....

It seems that it would take all the fun out of life!!

All I know is that if I see something that I like, I will find a place for it and never even think about where I will store it because everything just always falls into place...

So to set the Record Straight, I love in a SMALL townhouse, only 1325 sq, ft.!!

I have NO BASEMENT or GARAGE!!

But I was SMART enough to see the potential that my attic had so I payed to have a 16 by 20 foot section floored with plywood which enables me to store a MULTITUDE of things up in the attic....

I also had the FORESIGHT to install pull down stairs in my bedroom to enable quick and easy access to the attic....

Now, I can only walk up there hunchbacked without getting impaled by the roofing nails so I was again SMART enough to put a small stool to sit on up there so I can work up in the attic...

I am able to fit ALL of my indoor decorations, except for a few heavy Christmas ceramics that I have in tubs, that I store under the stairs in the Living Room....

Storage under the stairs that no one ever thinks about...

I use the truss system in the attic as sections and each room of Christmas decorations are stored in a section....

Other holidays also have their own sections created by the truss system.....

This really was a NO BRAINER solution for storage to me even though the majority of my neighbors have never even looked up in their attic.........

All I did was to utilize space that apparently no one even thinks about using for storage....

We do rent a storage shed for outdoor items which does include my Holiday outdoor decorations and two 6 and 7 foot Trees.....

And that takes up barely 1/4th of this storage shed for holiday decorations, which is smaller than everyone else's 2 car garages!!

The decorations I store in this shed takes up only one corner......that is all!!!

So I guess when people ask me these questions this is why I am so befuddled by it...

Because the people who are usually asking me the questions own much BIGGER homes with BASEMENTS and even GARAGES, so I guess I simply can not understand why they are asking ME about storage especially...

Because surely, if I lived in houses the size of theirs, I would have a heck of a lot more stuff because there is so much more room to store it in than I have!!!

And as far as cleaning, since I change a lot of my decor every 6 weeks or so, I do what my Mother would have called a Spring house cleaning when I do this...

Chances are this is a LOT MORE cleaning by doing this then most do....

I dust almost daily with Swifter dusters which work fabulously well and again, this is something that I truly do not even think about when I decorate...

Why would I want to take all the fun out of decorating by doing so???

Record is set straight.....

Case closed.....

Even though I know that it is just a matter of time when someone else asks me these questions again!!

REALLY?????

Okay then, with all that being said.....

And for Halloween!!!

Love those black velvet hands!!!!!

Thanks so much, Anne Marie!!!

And the answer to another question..

"Don't you think now that you are Retired, you should start to downsize?"

REALLY????

I finally now have time to "play" in my house which is all I ever wanted to do for the past 41 years but since I had to work full time, I could not do all I wanted to do and never got to enjoy what I was able to do fully.....

Now, I can do what I want, and I now have the time to enjoy it, why would I want to get rid of the things that make me so happy??????

When I die, I have already given my oldest son the names of 2 reputable Estate Sale Companies he can use to come and clear out my house....

I would like to leave you with a link to one of my favorite You Tube personalities...

This is Jean E., who is about to be 76 years old and whose husband is 80...

They still go to yard sales, estate sales and retail stores and shop for what they collect and like with reckless abandon and do not care about storage, cleaning or their age.....

They are living their lives to the fullest as they like!

They are my Heroes!

I hope you will stop by to visit again on WEDNESDAY!

Stay safe, healthy and most of all, HAPPY!!

  1. Debbie, sounds like you have it all under control! I need you to come to my house and help me organize my tiny storage area! Hahaha!! I'm actually in the process of donating a bunch of things that I haven't displayed in years. Since I adore shopping for treasure this is the best way for me to have space for it all!! Love what you do and again, congrats on your big news!

  2. Debbie, I love all of the great prices on your buys. I enjoyed looking at everything and I know you will enjoy decorating with them and making crafts.

  3. Hi, Debbie. In my first house, we didn't have a basement or any real storage closets, so we did a pull-down ladder for attic access in the garage, and I just loved it! You've got everything so nicely organized. I am getting excited for fall seeing all your fall decor! Visiting from Tell it To Me Tuesday.

  4. Wow Deb! You got some incredible finds. Can’t wait to see how you use everything. I love your storage solutions. I have much of my decor in the attic too but mine is a bit of a mess compared to yours. You are very organized. AND congratulations!!! I am so excited for you. Thank you for sharing everything at the Home Imagined link party. XO- MaryJo

  5. I'm one who's asked about your storage. When I ask anyone this question, I don't mean it in a "where the heck do you store all that stuff!" snarky way. I think a more accurate question many of us are really asking is *how* you store them. So you can find what you are looking for. So things don't get damaged. So it's not such a pain to get things out and put away that you stop decorating for seasons. I ask so I can get ideas to improve my own storage. I think I'll find a chair or stool to leave in our attic! And start putting things in totes by room (the Christmas tree decorations already have their own totes). Thank you for answering some of those questions.
I've wondered but not asked about the cleaning, but it does make sense that changing things every few weeks takes care of the dusting. I do more dusting on things I leave out all the time than on the few seasonal things I have out for a few weeks at a time.
I do agree with you that asking if it isn't time for you to downsize is sort of rude.

    1. I asked the same question with the same reason for asking and hoped Deb wasn't offended by it too. It was a great explanation and now we can just sit back and relax and enjoy the change of seasons in Deb's posts. :)

  6. Your yellow pitcher with the utensils made me smile. I have my baking spoons, etc., in a small red pitcher on my counter. My spatulas and other things to use while cooking are beside the stove in a Kraft peanut butter jar (shaped like a bear).

  7. You found some great items at awesome prices, especially at the church flea market! I hit a big sale at ReStore yesterday. 90% off Christmas (that had fall stuff included) and 50% off all housewares. Oh, and a small iron table for only $40. My estimate for actual cost would be close to $200. It was in excellent condition. I bet you and I would have a ball thrift shopping together! Thanks for sharing at the #HomeMattersParty.

  8. Hi Debbie, Great post! I love all the item you have found. The Herringbone pieces are beautiful, I don't think I have every come across Herringbone China before. I have a small collection of Moss Rose, your piece are really nice, and your collect ion is amazing. Interesting Halloween pieces can't wait to see how you use them in your Halloween decor. The copper molds are great and look nice in your kitchen.

  9. You got some really lovely new buys! I would easily bet that by switching out your decor so often you do a much deeper cleaning than I probably ever do.

  10. Super cute finds! I can't bring myself to accept that summer is coming to an end. I will be clutching an ice berg in my bathing suite pretty soon here. Thank you for visiting Tell It To Me Tuesday!

  12. Hi Deb - I really hope I didn't offend you by asking how you store everything. I have a much bigger house than you, but a lot less going on in it. I think I was wondering how you keep everything in order - and your attic layout perfectly explains that - trying to find Fall decor or Spring or Halloween would be a breeze if they're each in their own section.
When something's important we always find a way to make it happen - and being an ex-nurse I imagine you're very good at cleanliness and orderliness with all of this. You definitely deserve a gold star for your displays and for your system of how you go about organizing it all. x

    1. Leanne,
Not offended by your comment at all..It is the ones that ask with the bit of sarcasm like How on earth do you clean this house? or Don't you think you should get rid of something first before you buy more? , etc....Those are the ones that get me because you can just hear the judgement in their voices!! I think organization is one of my super powers and I learned it from my neighbor Elly....She had a place for everything and everything was labeled and she knew exactly where everything was...I hope you have a gret weekend, my friend!!!

    2. Phew! I'm so glad that you understood that I came from a place of curiosity and not criticism :) We all have different styles and interests, and I really enjoy seeing you sharing what makes your heart happy. My house has very little in the way of decorating for the seasons, so I get to do it vicariously through you. xx

    3. Leanne,
No worries!! If fact, this conversation has inspired me to do a post in the future where I will be sharing how I also pack away my "normal" things before Holiday decorating and what I have learned to make this whole process pretty easy....I hope you have a great week ahead, my friend!!
      Hugs,
      Deb

  13. Good use of space in your house! I've kind of set a rule for myself over time that if I buy something from thrift stores then I also get rid of things that way I don't have to have extra external storage. I also have pretty bad allergies so I can't do a lot of knick knacks
