Today, I will be sharing how I decorated the top and the floor in front of the TV Entertainment Center in the Living Room in a Nautical/Pirate theme!!!
In my last post, I shared my "Under the Sea" Tree in the Living Room.....
The "Beach" underneath it....
And some new ornaments that I made for the Tree.....
Click
HERE if you missed that post!!
Thanks so much, Cecelia!!!
Thanks again, Barb!!
Please stop by and link up to these charming parties!!!
I usually decorate the top of the TV Entertainment Center very differently at this time of year....
In a future post, I will show you how I changed this display up a bit and moved it into the Dining Room on the buffet....
I wanted to continue the Coastal/Nautical theme here in this area but I wanted to do something different than the "Under the Sea" theme in which the Living Room Tree and the area underneath it and around it is decorated in...
I thought long and hard about what I could possibly do for several days and then I saw something advertised on TV and a light bulb went off in my head.....
I saw one of my favorite movies advertised.....
"Hook"
Need I mention how much I loved Peter Pan as a child!!
Seeing that made me recall that as a child I read a book about Blackbeard and loved anything and everything having to do with Pirates ever since...
I loved "The Goonies", Pirates of the Caribbean and many more...
I even made Pirate outfits for both my sons one Halloween!!
I now had my theme for this area and it also went with the Coastal theme....
After all, Pirates sailed the ocean blue, did they not???
I did a bit of crafting to add a few more pieces to complete my vision....
I bought these wood cut outs at Dollar Tree in the Spring.....
I painted them, added a few shells and a star fish to them.....
Joe had picked up a set of 4 Whale rings for children somewhere ......
On Clearance I am sure....
I thought they would look cute attached to the ships....
I wanted to leave the 2 foot white Tree on top of the TV Entertainment Center that I had there as part of my Patriotic decorations....
These ships would be perfect for what I had in mind....
I then searched the internet for graphics of what I was thinking of ......
I found exactly what I was looking for.....
A Treasure Map!!!
I ran off 2 copies....
I glued one to a burlap sign that I had bought a long time ago in Michael's....
It came in a package of 3....
I added aqua tinsel trim, shells and wrote "Buried Treasure" on it...
I rolled the other copy up and wrapped twine around it...
I then found this graphic....
"The Pirate's Cove Hangout"
Perfect!!
I glued it to another burlap sign along with "Wanted Posters" of Pirates....
Added some shells and the rolled up Treasure Map.....
I found another graphic I liked and made another sign......
I trimmed it with rope and a Sea Horse ribbon bought at Dollar Tree......
Along with a few shells.....
I also bought this unfinished wood cut out of ship wheel at Dollar Tree....
I painted it, added rope, shells and aqua gem stones....
When I started to decorate the Living Room in this Coastal/Nautical theme, I decided to use these vintage hand made scarves with tatted edgings....
They were made by my Maternal Grandmother for my Mother's waterfall bedroom set of furniture which is now my Bedroom furniture....
There are 5 pieces....
This one was made to fit in the center area of the vanity....
These 2 smaller ones were made for the sides of the vanity ....
There were 2 runners.....
One for the dresser and one for the wardrobe.....
The tatted edging is quite intricate....
My Grandmother did teach my Mother how to tat but she said she had no patience for it as it really was not easy to do.....
I placed both of the runners on top of the TV Entertainment Center so that they would hang down on each side......
I will share where I put the other pieces in my next post when I share the rest of the Living Room....
And now, Welcome to the Pirate's Cove.....
Not only did I decorate the top but I also decorated an area on the floor....
I always say that I treat the top as if it was a mantel on a fireplace.....
On the left side....
I placed 2 aqua mercury glass candle holders on each side....
An apothecary jar and a bottle filled with sand and shells and decorated with aqua sequin trim and bows....
I moved a set of Globe bookends here from the Den......
After all, Pirates used a globe to map their courses....
And of course, they all knew the rules of the Tavern!!!
I decorated the Tree with 4 of the sail boats I made with the Whales on them.....
Some of the shell ornaments that I made over the years for the larger Tree......
An anchor ornament......
A lighthouse ....
And netting.....
A lighthouse sits in front of the Tree.....
This is a residential lighthouse but let's pretend that the Robinson Tavern is housed in this Lighthouse...
So after the Lighthouse guided the Pirate's ships to shore, they came to Robinson Tavern to quench thier thirst.....
Now every Pirate has a map showing where Buried Treasure is....
The other Globe bookend.....
The other aqua mercury glass candle holder .....
And another apothecary jar and bottle filled with shells and sand.....
Now we will take a look at the display I set up on the floor....
I have had this chest here in front of the TV Entertainment Center for some time now.....
It reminded me of a Treasure Chest........
And it had a map design on it...
I placed 2 gold mercury glass pedestals on each side of the chest....
The one on the left side...
I placed the ship wheel, shells, a lighthouse ornament and another rolled up treasure map on this pedestal.....
Underneath it , I placed a vintage mason jar filled with shells...
Another lighthouse.....
Binoculars to see what is out on the horizon.....
An anchor....
A Pirate Ship (Let's pretend it is)
In front of the chest....
On the other side....
A lantern on a book on the other pedestal....
And another mason jar filled with shells....
I had a lot of fun thinking about, designing and making things for this display!!!
I feel this makes one think of Pirate's sailing the 7 Seas....
And this is why I am calling it a Coastal/Nautical theme....
What is the difference???
Coastal means relating to, bordering on, or located near a coast....
Nautical means concerning sailors, ships and navigation; maritime.
And PIRATES!!!!!
I hope you got a chuckle out of this post and enjoyed seeing a bit of my imagination!!!
On
MONDAY I will complete my Tour of the Living Room decorated in this theme for the Late Summer...

Love the pirate theme! I almost went with that in my guest room, but the patriotic quilts went on sale for less than the pirate comforters . . . I still am not sure I went with the right choice. I love that treasure map and what a cute idea it is. Great theme!
