I am a Victorian Soul, who lives in a small townhouse that was built in the mid 1970's, not a huge Mega Mansion!! I just recently lost my Hubby Joe, who was a Retired Letter Carrier. I worked night shift as an RN on a Hospital based Rehabilitation( Physical Medicine) Unit for 37 years before I had Knee Replacement Surgery and officially Retired in 2019 after 41 years working in Direct Patient Care ... I am so glad that we retired at 62 years of age and got to spend that time together before he passed....I still do love Retirement!!!!

A Simple Act of Kindness and New Rugs

Welcome to Debbie-Dabble Blog!!
I am so happy you decided to stop by!!

Today, I want to show you the new rugs that we bought for the Living Room.....

But first, I want to Thank the hosts of Waste Not Wednesday Link Party for choosing my post,
Summer Front Yard, as one of the extra features from last week's party!!

Thanks to Deborah, over at Salvage Sister and Mister, Sam at Raggedy Bits, and Leanna over at Faeries and Fauna!!

I also want to Thank Barb, over at French Ehtereal, for featuring my post, A Sunset, Dance Recital,Geese, A Ground hog and a New Bird Bath , from last week's Share Your Style Link Party!!
Thanks so much, Barb!  And thanks for mentioning my nephew and the toll his fight against colon cancer takes on a family.  Prayers are really needed for them right now....

Please stop by and link up to these great parties!!

On July 7th, we were treated by our son Jim and his wife, Danielle, to a WWE house show that was held at the Mohegan Sun Arena which is literally 5 minutes from our house!!
When the boys were young, Wrestling was the one thing that we watched as a family!!
We attended WWF and then WWE events at the Arena whenever they came to our area and it was always such a good time!
But as the boys got older and Joe started to work at the Post Office and could not refuse over time for the first 6 years he was employed there, we stopped watching Wrestling because we didn't seem to have the time to do so but the boys continued watching it, having remained ardent fans and going to shows at the Arena together......

That is Jim enjoying a cheese steak hoagie with Joey eyeing it up......
You can't see Danielle, who is sitting on the other side of Jim.....

Since we have been Season Tickets Holders for close to 20 years for the Pittsburgh Penguins AHL team, the Scranton Wilkes Barre Penguins, we have often visited with this amazing man......
This picture was taken on July 7th with our friend Joe S., who works as an usher at the Arena and is now 92 years old!!!!

I knew Joe S, who was a former patient of mine several times and then introduced him to my husband when I saw him working as an usher at the Mohegan Sun Arena.

Over the years, Joe S. and my husband Joe have built up a friendship and like to kid each other.....

Joe S. seeks out my husband on Tuesdays when he comes to Wegman's to shop on Senior Citizens Day!!

This is a photo of Joe S. from the newspaper in a restaurant where he usually eats breakfast 3 times or so a week......
Click HERE to read the story about a young couple who sat in a booth behind our friend Joe S. on a Sunday morning when he stopped in his favorite place to eat for breakfast.....

Not only were they kind enough to pay for his breakfast when they finished theirs before him but they also paid for a Gift Card to the Eatery in the amount of $150 for Joe S.!!!

They slipped out quietly before the waitress told Joe S. what had just happened!!!

What an amazing act of Kindness!!

So good to hear especially now when there is so much turmoil in this Country....

Joe S. was also honored as the Grand Marshall for Wilkes Barre Twp.'s Memorial Day parade this year because the local American Legion said he is their last living WWII Veteran.......
Click HERE if you would like to read the newspaper article about the parade....

We could not be any happier for our friend who is also known as Mohegan Joe!!

In a previous post, I shared how I made a light house out of clay pots.....
Click HERE if you missed that post......

This is what it looks like lit up at night.....
I am now working on a smaller version for my Living Room when I decorate it after the 4th of July in an "Under the Sea" theme........

Didn't do so this year because of my knee surgery.......

6 years ago, we remodeled the Living Room, Dining Room, Kitchen and Powder Room which entailed new flooring, new medicine cabinet and light fixture in the Powder Room, new counter tops and sink in the Kitchen and new molding through out all the rooms......

At that time, since we put in Pergo Max floors, we bought area rugs for the Living Room that were on Clearance in Lowe's.......
You can see that they were a fairly good match to the sofa and chairs....
And they matched the Imported Italian tile foyer.....
There were runners that were laid down the hall way to the Kitchen....
Last year, I started thinking about replacing these rugs as they were starting to show a bit of wear.....

I looked online and in stores and nothing really popped out at me until..........

Ocean State Job Lot Store opened right down the street from us recently!!

They have a huge selection of rugs and I found one that would be perfect in our Living Room but at the time, they did not have the smaller rugs for down the hall......

We went back the next week and Lo and Behold! They had the smaller rugs too!!

So we bought them!!
I was thrilled because the main color was mostly aqua which is one of the colors of our Living Room.......
This rug was actually a little bigger than the one that was there previously......
And I think it still goes well with the sofa and chairs.......
These rugs are almost 3 times thicker than the ones that I had before......
And almost have a velvety looking quality to them!!
This rug was only $124.99!!
Normally, at this time of the year, that white Tree in the corner would be decorated in aqua and sea shell and sea ornaments for my late Summer "Under the Sea" theme.....
But I skipped doing so this year because of my knee surgery....
I now moved the ottoman back into the room.......
Looking in from the Dining Room.....
I think this style of rug leans more toward my Victorian style......
Looking toward the stairs and the hall way to the Kitchen.....
In the photo above, you can see how well the rugs go with my border which is called Monet's Garden....
I have one small rug here........
You can see that they also go well with the Italian tile of the foyer......
This one has the same pattern as the large one.....
And this size was a mere $21.99!!
And this rug was also larger the the one I had before.....

Looking down the hall way..........
The runner has a slightly different pattern........
It is also larger than the old runner......
And was only $49.99!!

Looking toward the Living Room from the Kitchen!!
I also have one of the small rugs where you walk from the Living Room into the Dining Room.....
So I bought 4 rugs for a total of $219 and a had a $5.00 coupon so that took the total down to $214!!!

I paid close to that for just the large Living Room rug 6 years ago on Clearance in Lowe's and those rugs were not as thick as the new ones are!!

I will now be on the lookout for a new rugs for the Dining Room.....

The old runner and smaller rugs were put to use in the upstairs hall way after I shampooed them and the large Living Room rug was wrapped up and put in storage down in our storage shed....

I hope you enjoyed your visit here today....

And I hope you will stop by to visit again soon!!

Thanks to those who took the time out of their busy day to spend a little bit of time with me!!

  2. Hello again!
Please do not worry about getting my email....I will try to get a hold of you via Facebook soon!
As usual, your house looks wonderful! I love how you keep things real by telling about how you save money...I can sure relate to relishing getting a good deal on items for the home!
The hot weather here in Tx keeps me indoors (like you, my body cannot tolerate the heat!) and your blog is something I look forward to reading...keep it up!!!!

    1. Nina,
Just send me a friend request on facebook. My face book site is private because i had a face book page attached to my blog and my blog got hacked , causing me to have to create a whole new blog.I do post more personal things on face book then i do here. I do try to keep things real because I like blog about real people myself and not the perfect houses and those with perfect families! Thanks so much for your kind words!!
      Hugs,

  3. Hey Debbie!
Oh, your lighthouse is so sweet! And the rugs are beautiful (aqua is one of my favorite colors), as are your floors.
The friendship with Joe S. must be such a blessing..imagine working at 92!
Looks like y'all are going to have a heatwave. Do take care..

    1. Linda,
Thanks so much for stopping by!! No, I can not imagine working until 92 but I could definitely see my husband working for as long as he can. He does not know what else to do with himself now that he is retired. He has no hobbies and is not handy so working gives him a purpose and he gets out to see people which is what he needs since he is a social butterfly. i am not....I like my solitude...LOL!!
      Hugs,
      Deb

  5. What a beautiful post. I too love to hear of acts of kindness. We live in troubled times but when I hear stories of kindness shown to people, I realize there are many more good hearted people than not. And your friend Joe S is amazing! 92 and still so active and appears to be a happy kind soul. Debbie, those new rugs are Gorgeous!! Wow! what beauty they add to your already beautiful home. Really, they are perfect for your Victorian home. They match well with your sofa and chairs and everything. I can't believe the great price you got them for. You can tell in the pictures they are high quality. You are right they look like velvet. I am sure they feel like it also. It is always a joy to stop by and visit, even though it is through blogging. It amazes me how blog friends become "true friends". I am thankful for blogging for this reason it has introduced me to amazing great people like you Debbie, who become my Friend. Thanks for the goodness you give so generously.

  6. OOO your new rugs are gorgeous and go so nicely with your furniture and floors.
ok, regarding the watering system for your pretty flowers, i say get a rain barrel...a large one...it would save you many steps as you could fill your water cans from it. would this work for you? maybe Joe could saw off one of your downspouts so that the rain water would flow into the barrel beneath...xo

  10. The rugs are beautiful, Deb. They pick up the colors of your tile and couches. Everything looks so nice. Thanks for your visit. I must admit that I didn't plant the zinnias from seed. I picked up a flat at the nursery. I did plant some morning glory seeds though and they are growing like a weed but no blooms yet. Hope I didn't plant them too late..Happy Tuesday..xxoJudy
