I am a Victorian Soul, who lives in a small townhouse that was built in the mid 1970's, not a huge Mega Mansion!! I just recently lost my Hubby Joe, who was a Retired Letter Carrier. I worked night shift as an RN on a Hospital based Rehabilitation( Physical Medicine) Unit for 37 years before I had Knee Replacement Surgery and officially Retired in 2019 after 41 years working in Direct Patient Care ... I am so glad that we retired at 62 years of age and got to spend that time together before he passed....I still do love Retirement!!!!

Making Something Out of Nothing!!!!

Welcome to Debbie-Dabble Blog!!
I am so happy you decided to stop by!!

They say necessity is the Mother of Invention ..........

For years, I have had this wicker shelf unit in the Powder Room which I have used to store brushes and combs in since I usually do my hair downstairs in this Bathroom......
The bottom part of it is used for storing extra toilet paper.......

When my sons were young and I would be getting ready to go to work for 11PM at night, I did not want to wake them up by getting ready in the upstairs Bathroom so I got ready downstairs and that habit just seemed to stick......
For many years and yes, I do mean many, I have just put the brushes and combs haphazardly in this area...

I decided it was time to put some sort of container in this area to hold the brushes and combs in an orderly fashion......

I did not want to buy anything and looked around the house and could not really find anything that would fit here......

Then one day, I was opening my box of Probiotics that I take and took a good look at the box......
Who would have thought that this box would fit perfectly and it even had 2 compartments......

I first thought that I would maybe cover it with fabric so I used white duct tape to cover up all the print on the box.......
I even taped the inside of the box to reinforce it.......
I then looked in my stash of Scrapbook papers and found this.......
I thought ...PERFECT!!!

I used hot glue to attach the paper to the box.......
The sides.....
The back......
I decided to trim out the box with a black gimp and black satin ribbon roses......
And Wa La........
Here it is........
I now can even keep a magazine or 2 in place with out it flopping out.....
I was inspired by my fellow Blogger, Alessandra, over at My Romantic Creations!!

Alessandra is amazing at what she can create out of the most mundane things......

These are just a few of her wonderful creations and what she actually made them out of!!!!

This........

Out of this.....
This.......

 From this......
And these........
 Out of this.......
I was so inspired by Alessandra and that made me think of using an ordinary box.....
And turning it into this......
I wish I had thought about this much sooner.......
I hope this inspired you to Make Something Out of Nothing!!

 SURGERY UPDATE:

I am doing fine after my Knee Replacement surgery........

I went to my first Out Patient Therapy appointment on Thursday, less than 3 days after my surgery......

The Polar Care Ice machine that they sent me home with is a life saver when it comes to decreasing the swelling.......
You fill what looks like a cooler with water and ice and it circulates the cold water through a pad that you wrap around your knee and stays cold for about 6 hours!!!!!
My Ortho Surgeon put this dressing, which is called an Aquacel dressing, on the morning after surgery and it will stay on until I see him for my first return office visit......
It provides a water seal closed dressing.....
 Also a barrier against infection....

It is starting to itch a bit.......

Okay, that is the last time you are going to see this much of my lovely legs!!!

LOL!!

I am getting around pretty good and doing all my exercises.......

I have been able to cut back on pain medication too.......

So all is going well.....

Once again, Thanks so much for all your well wishes and prayers for my recovery!!!

They are greatly appreciated!!!

On another personal note......

I also wanted to share a few pics of my beautiful great niece Cortney's  Junior Prom.......
 Aren't they a charming couple???

Cortney's hair was done by her 14 year old sister, Caitlin.......
 I was amazed!!!!

This is Caitlin.......
And this is their little sister, Carly.......
Thanks so much for your continued prayers for them and their Mom and Dad as their Dad wages a tough fight against cancer......

Well, that's it for today......

I hope you will stop by to visit again soon!!

Thanks to those who took the time out of their busy day to spend a little bit of time with me!!

  1. So glad you're recovering nicely from your surgery! I guess you made this lovely container before you had the surgery! Can't believe you're in the mood to craft! Lol! Your container looks fabulous and you'd never know it was made from an ordinary box! So cool! It blends in quite well with your wicker shelving - a perfect match! Love it!

  13. Loved the box AND the fact that you are ambitious enough already to be crafting! I have been making gift boxes/bags out of cereal boxes by wrapping them in Christmas paper, punching holes for yarn/ribbon ties and adding a tag. Have made some for our November bazaar. Our dump no long recycles plain cardboard so this upcycle pleases me. I can next a small box inside a brownie box inside a cereal box and have a set! Christmas wrapping ought to be a breeze this year!

  14. I did something similar to hold my bills on my fridge. Hope your knee replacement recovery goes well. I had to share your pictures with my mom in law since she is laying in bed at this moment with her polar ice thing keeping her knee cold! She had her surgery 3 weeks ago!

  15. So glad to hear the knee replacement has gone well -- especially that there is less pain than before. Prayers for continued smooth recovery. That bandage sounds like a great idea -- and so simple! Could have used one of those a couple of times in my life in different locations! Your "something out of nothing" project turned out fantastic!

  18. That is very neat what you did, and how you were inspired! I made a tote from a detergent bottle by crocheting a top to it.... It's a lot of fun, isn't it?! https://www.b4andafters.com/durable-tote-bag-from-upcycled-containers/ Thank you for sharing at Best of the Weekend! I will be featuring you tomorrow!
