This post is brought to you courtesy of Joe and our oldest son Joey!!!
At the end of September, Joe received 2 free tickets to a Pittsburgh Penguins Exhibition Game because we are 5 year commitment Season Ticket Holders to the Wilkes Barre Scranton Penguins Hockey Team, the AHL team of the Pittsburgh Pens.......
So Joe and our oldest son took a 3 day trip to Pittsburgh.......
But before I go any further, I want to Thank Katherine, over at Katherine's Corner, for featuring my post, Victorian Haunted Doll House, from last week's Thursday Favorite Things Party!!!
Thanks so much, Katherine!!
Please stop by and link up to this lovely party!!!
Since I wrote this post, another horrific Act of Violence has occurred in Pittsburgh......
It is sad to even say that these type of things are becoming common in America and leads one to wonder is there no end to this senseless violence in sight???????
So I am asking you join me in sending Prayers for the victims and their families......
I thought this next post would be the perfect to start to a Series of posts on their trip to Pittsburgh since Halloween is less then a week away!!
My son Joey and I are huge fans of the TV Series Walking Dead and Fear The Walking Dead......
The inspiration for these 2 series came from the 1968 movie "Night of the Living Dead" and the rest of the sequel Zombie movies......
These movies were the brain child of the late film maker George Romero who grew up in the Pittsburgh area and made these films in that same area......
There is a Living Dead Museum in Evans City.......
It has been on my son Joey's Bucket List to see this museum for some time now......
He got to check it off his Bucket List a few weeks ago.......
You can see how thrilled he is!!!!!!
Maul of Fame!!!
Look how intrigued he is!!
American Film Maker, Writer and Editor, the late George Romero's hand print.......
As I mentioned before, he is best known for his Zombie Apocalypse Movies starting with Night of the Living Dead.....
Sorry these next 2 photos are blurry....
The battery was dying on my camera.....
But you get the jest of how excited Joey was to be there...
Replicas of the Monroeville Mall where parts of the movie Night of the Living Dead were filmed.....
Joe and Joey visited there last year on their trip to Pittsburgh!
Movie Props......
They also visited the Evans City Cemetery where one of the opening scenes of the movie was filmed......
Evans City Cemetery
This is an actual scene from the movie "Night of the Living Dead".......
50 years later, the same tombstone.......
Joey re-enacted the scene from the movie!!
Another scene from the movie.......
The same tombstones.......
Joe nearly died when Joey dropped to his knees, re-enacting the same scene!!!!
LOL!!!
I do want to say that there is no disrespect to the graves and the cemetery....
People come from all over to see this cemetery and the locals are okay with it as long as you remain respectful and do not carry on like a crazy person in the cemetery......
Joe bought Tee Shirts for the 2 of us.....
This one for him......
The back of the Tee shirt......
And this one for me!!!
Ironically, this year is the 50th Anniversary of the movie Night of the Living Dead and a remastered version is being shown in movie theaters around the country.....Our son Joey will be going to see it again at one of our local movie theaters tonight!!!!
There recently were two 50th Anniversary Reunion events, Living Dead Weekends, one held in Monroeville and the other in Evans City.......
And on October 1st, the 50th Anniversary of the release of the movie, George Romero Day was declared by the mayor of Pittsburgh!!!!
This is a photo from the Pittsburgh Post Gazette with Romero's widow on October 1st of this year!!!
Just in time for Halloween!!!!!
The next thing Joey wants to cross off his Bucket List is to attend one of the Annual Living Dead Weekends hosted in Evans City!!
Maybe next year......
I hope you will come back to visit when I share the rest of their trip and their visits to the Monongahela Incline, Point State Park.......
And Fort Pitt Museum..........
And to the Pittsburgh Zoo.......
Thanks to those who took the time out of their busy day to spend a little bit of time with me!!
If you do not have a blog, PLEASE give me some way to reply to your comment, maybe by including your email in your comment. If I can not find a way to reach you, I will reply on the post where you commented so please check back......

Wow! that was exciting, but I am scared.. 10 years back I went to House of Horrors in Universal Studio with my hubby. I was so scared that , through the whole tunnel, i clung to hubby with closed eyes.. :D
ReplyDeleteSo very cool. Thanks for sharing it with us.
ReplyDeleteOh wow I am loving the zombie museum and tribute to George Romero, genius!!!! And going to the cemetery that some of the movie was made at, wow that looks like such a treat! I remember driving through Hollywood 15 years ago trying to find the Freddie Kruger house. We did find it and where two giddy school girls about it too!
ReplyDeleteThe perfect Halloween post!
ReplyDeleteI'm a little jealous right now. I've always wanted to go see the museum and the cemetery where the movie was filmed, but South Africa is a little bit to far for a day trip. Although that being said the real belief in zombies is very much part of our culture here and a friend of mine swears that she's seen a real "nzambi". I think I'd run a mile :-)
