Welcome to Debbie-Dabble Blog!!
I am so happy you decided to stop by!!
Just a reminder, I will be posting on Wednesdays
and Sundays every week so be sure to check back on those days to see a
new post......
HAPPY LABOR DAY!!!!
This is the last of what I consider the Summer Patriotic Holidays......
"It is appropriate,
therefore, that the nation pays tribute on Labor Day to the creator of
so much of the nation's strength, freedom, and leadership – the American
worker.” Yes, Labor Day is a patriotic holiday, and a time to show pride if you are counted among the American workers"
Having worked, earning my own money starting from the age of 12 with Babysitting until 2 years ago, when I resigned from my job 6 months shy of my planned early Retirement, I am thrilled to no longer be part of the American Workforce.....
After being part of that American workforce for 50 years from the age of 12 years old, I paid my dues and then some.....
That is why I chose the above graphic with Rosie ,the Riveter, honoring all the women in the American Workforce, past and present, including both my Mother and my MIL, who worked full time until they Retired.....
I celebrate all those working and keeping our Country strong, safe and prosperous!!!
Today, I will be sharing how I decorated the Front Porch and YYard for Labor Day and yet, one more Landscaping Project that I swear is the last one!!!
This is my new next door neighbor Trish's Grandson.....
She bought the house for him and his mother ( her daughter) to live in....
While Trish was doing some things in the house, she set him up on the front porch to play!!!
Our neighbor Maria came down after her first day of school to play with him.....
They were having a grand time.....
Joe was sitting on the porch watching over them!!!
LOL!!
Carol, over at Comfort Spring, posted this great recipe for Zucchini Tomato Gratin a short time ago and it looked so good, I had to try it!!!
Click HERE to get the recipe...
This is my version of it!!
I threw a few slices of BBQ Chicken deli meat that I had on hand......
It was delicious!!!
I had it for dinner for 2 days as Joe and Joey do not care for vegetables and ate something else.......
In my previous post, I mentioned about my neighbor Caled insisting on paying for the gutter extension that his roofers put on our downspout while he had a new back roof installed.....
In exchange, I offered to landscape the front yard of the house that he owns that is between our 2 houses and he rents out.....
This was previously owned by my neighbor of 30+ years who passed away...
He had not been able to take care of the slope as far as applying mulch for 2-3 years as he had lung cancer but he did manage to keep the weeds at bay.....
This is what it looked like Before as Caled was just trimming the weeds down.....
Joe started by pulling weeds and I took over that job on top of the slope......
He took out the shrub on the corner as the roots were pushing up against the wall and 2 dead junipers....
Joe then trimmed the remaining junipers....
I took out all the weeds on the top......
I uncovered these sedum plants and columbine plants that had reseeded here from my yard......
I added a few more sedum plants that I had growing out in the back yard.....
Joe went and got the mulch at Lowe's which just reduced all the mulch down to $2.00 a bag!!!
And here is the finished slope after we put the mulch down.....
And the top of the slope......
These 2 large rocks had washed down the slope so I moved them back up on top.....
Now the slope between the 2 sets of steps is now done......
3 yards, different in the plants on the slope, but it still has a cohesive look.......
The remnants of Hurricane Ida ended up dumping anywhere from 3-8 inches of rain on NEPA!!
I measured 4.25 inches in my rain gauge in our back yard....
We did not sustain any damage but at 9pm on Wednesday evening , our Township Road Department knocked on the doors of all 70 townhouses in our development warning us that we might not have access in and out of our development.....
There is a dry creek bed that normally has no water in it at the bottom of both the hill I live on and the hill in the apartment complex where both our sons live.....
With all the rain, it had now overflowed it's banks, flooding the one parking lot of the Apartment complex and might flood the only road in and out of our development....
Luckily, the rain slowed down and the creek receded......
Sending prayers out to all those who were affected by Ida.....
In the beginning of the Summer, I transplanted 2 small Lamb's Ear plants into pots......
I decided to plant them on the top of the neighbor's slope.....
Now it looks finished to me.....
All we have left to do is pull some weeds and put some mulch down in the flower bed under their Living Room window....
Caled trimmed the shrubs with his electric trimmer....
Stay tuned to see how it all looks when we finish the project.....
The Robin and her babies finally left the nest in my other next door neighbor's shrub in the flower bed under her Living Room window so Joe chopped down the yew that the nest was in.....
You can see there is nothing wrong with his knees!!!
He even got the axe out!!!!!
I forgot to take a picture of what this looks like now without the 2 yews in the flower bed and right now it is raining again!!!!!
And it appears that my neighbor Brandy got a case of the "Might as Well's" too.....
Since almost all the neighbors in our row of 10 townhouses spruced up their front yards with fresh mulch and trimmed and cut down older shrubs, she decided to join in.....
Her dad bought the house 2 years ago and is on the road a lot with his job......
She currently lives with him but is waiting for another house here in our development to come available to buy for herself....
She transplanted the one sedum, moving it over a bit....
She put weed block down the entire slope as her yard has the least amount of an incline on the slope.....
I will be sharing how she finished it up and how all the other neighbor's yards look who re-did their yards this past Summer in a future post.....
It definitely became a community project!!!
The other day, our son and DIL were having a maintenance issue taken care of in their townhouse so we brought little Faye home with us for the morning.....
She enjoyed visiting with her G Pop and Mimi!!
Being able to look out the front door......
And going for a walk with G Pop!!
I am sure she took a nice long nap when she went back home with her Mama and Daddy!!!
Some time ago, Joe picked up some Patriotic things on clearance in Big Lot's......
I already shared some of those and where I put them in my last post....
Click
HERE if you missed it.....
These are some more of the things that Joe bought at Big Lot's on Clearance.....
This banner will be put away and kept for future use as I just bought a new one in the beginning of the Season......
I did change some things up a bit in comparison to Memorial Day and July 4th.....
Again, I simply tucked a bunch of American flags into some of my pots.....
I decided to change out the Patriotic wreath I usually use on the front door for this new one that I made during the Summer......
The "weeping" mortar on the front of our house allows me to hang decorations from it.....
I used the 2 new signs that Joe bought......
I am going to let the pictures do most of the talking.....
I changed the mailbox cover for the Holiday......
The flower beds.....
The flower bed under our Living Room window.....
I tucked 2 Dollar Tree Patriotic Star stakes into the pots with the impatiens.....
I decorated the front of the house on Thursday and it will stay this way until Tuesday, which is supposed to be a dry and sunny day.....
High temps. for this coming week here are predicted to be in the low 70's with low's in the 50's at night.....
Perfect in my book.....
On Tuesday, I will begin to pack up the Summer things from the porch and yard and start to decorate the front of the house for Fall!!
I can't wait!!
I hope you get to spend your Labor Day with those you love!!
