I am a Victorian Soul, who lives in a small townhouse that was built in the mid 1970's, not a huge Mega Mansion!! I just recently lost my Hubby Joe, who was a Retired Letter Carrier. I worked night shift as an RN on a Hospital based Rehabilitation( Physical Medicine) Unit for 37 years before I had Knee Replacement Surgery and officially Retired in 2019 after 41 years working in Direct Patient Care ... I am so glad that we retired at 62 years of age and got to spend that time together before he passed....I still do love Retirement!!!!

I wanted to get pictures of these beautiful Dogwoods in bloom on the side of our road so on our way to our son's home last Saturday to let out our Grand Pup, I told Joe to pull over to the side of the road so I could take a few pictures......

I jumped out of the car and took these pictures......

I then got the feeling that I was standing on something ....

When I looked down, I saw that I was standing in the biggest pile of dog poop I ever saw!!!!

Not to gross anyone out but more like cow flop, I would say!!!

So there I am sitting with my feet hanging out of the car, trying to clean off my shoes, which had large grooves in the soles to make matters even worse, with paper towels which was not providing any type of cleaning of the mess I had stepped into whatsoever!!!!

I ended up wrapping the shoes up in paper towels, throwing them in a bag to clean later ( I still have not touched them)

Joe had to drive back up the hill and get me another pair of shoes to wear as our poor Faye was anxiously waiting for us!!!

Geez!!

What we all do for a photo op, huh?????

Since I had the camera with me, I decided to take a few photos of this Sweetie who now, at almost 9 months old, weighs a whopping 8 pounds!!!

After her G Pop takes her out the first time, she loves to sit on the sofa with Mimi for a bit of loving.....

 She enjoys her back scratches.....

And belly rubs....

She is even trying to get a belly rub off of G Pop when he is trying to get her leash on.....

"I see something interesting over there"

"You are not coming with us, Mimi?????"

"But I just wanted to see what that thing on the sidewalk tasted like, G Pop!!!"

"You mean it is time for you to go?"

Uncle Joey will be missing his Fun Fridays with Faye, as he refers to his Friday morning visits with her, when he starts working again!!!

He will have to come with us on Saturday or Sunday mornings as Jim and Danielle do not get any weekends off....

The next morning was a beautiful sunny morning so I took more pictures of the Dogwoods......

But stayed in the car!!!!!

Sorry about the dumpsters but since we do not have to pay a dime for our garbage, I can put up with them!!!

This is a tree in bloom in the apartment complex where both of our sons live.....

Sunday morning was a nice so I decided to finish the yard work in the back yard.....

While doing so, I was visited by this Morning Dove....

I could not help but wonder if it was one of the baby Doves that were born in my hanging flower pot in the corner of the Patio a few years ago.....

It was not afraid of me standing there and walked, looking confused, around the bird bath now planter.....

It was still used as a bird bath when the Morning Doves nested in our hanging pot....

It eventually found the new bird bath and took a drink!!

Was still not afraid of me standing there.....

Didn't answer me though when I asked if he was born here in our yard!!!

I was also being watched from above......

I believe that I got a visitor from heaven as the saying goes.....

I pulled out and straightened out the brick borders with a mallet.....

Broke every finger nail I had and broke my back because I was sitting on a small step stool while doing so!!!

I have no idea how women can get manicure and fake nails and do any type of work afterward!!!!

I then raked up all the mulch in the yard.....

And unpacked the tubs that Joe brought up from our storage shed.....

And put out all the garden art......

Like gazing balls......

 And my Gnomes.....

 And Angels.......

o now the back yard and Patio are ready for the Summer except it is way too early to buy my annuals to plant.....

And this is why.....

Woke up to a coating of snow yesterday morning and 29 degrees!!!!

Just had to take these pictures of my Gnomes in snow!!!!

It was so cold that the water dripping out of this hanging planter was forming icicles!!!

An icicle even formed on the dwarf alberta spruce!!

Snow in the front yard.....

We do normally get show showers in April......

We still can get frost into mid May!!!!

Now I have yet to post about my Goals for this Year which I do intend to do soon but I have just been so busy.....

I have mentioned several times though that one of those Goals is to not spend money needlessly....

And I have been doing really well with that...

It is Joe who can spend money like no one I have ever met before....

Well, not necessarily true as I think he learned it from his Mother....

She is one of the few women that I have ever met who worked full time that was allowed to keep her check and do what she wanted with it....

Yep!!

You have read that right......and may I add that when she took early Retirement at 55 years old from what was a former RCA factory, she was making way more money than I was as an RN!!!!!

Joe did call and ask my permission to buy these Easter things at Big Lot's as they were marked down to 90% off.....

Even I can not resist something for that price!!!!

This was originally $12

 Down to $1.20!!!

Now the funny thing is that I actually had thought of buying this and changing the back ground to red and white checks but changed my mind, sticking to my Goal....

And now I will easily be able to do so as the sign had come off to which Joe told the clerk that it would be no problem for his wife to fix!!!

I will see how it looks after I change the back ground , maybe painting with truck gray with a red outline instead of blue.....

Now he did buy 2 of some things, thinking I could upcycle them or gift them next year....

This was also $12 originally.....

He bought 2 at $1.20 each!!

The Happy Easter and flowers on one could easily be painted out and something else added in the middle because I really love the framework of this sign!!

This was $8 originally, marked down to 80 cents!!!!!

This had no price so they gave it to him for $1.00!!!

Thinking of painting the wood border red!!!

He bought 2 of these at 80 cents each as they were also $8 originally!!

Can easily paint different colors on those bunnies!!

And also 2 of these for 80 cents each!!!

Would be great to place in the center of a wreath!!!

Oddly, I was also going to buy this before Easter for my Kitchen because of the carrots........

Glad I waited and only paid 80 cents for it!!!!

Now these sweet little baskets were $3.00 each!!

BUT now they were marked down to a mere 30 cents each!!!!!

 Aren't those faces just darling?????

Everything including the doubles he bought cost a total, with tax, of $9.97!!

Now how could I possibly say no to such a deal?????

Speaking of signs, you may remember that Joe bought a Valentine's sign on Clearance for $4 but actually got it for FREE as he had a $5 off $15 coupon......

I was going to paint out the hearts on it to use as a sign on the Front Porch for the Summer but then I decided to go in a different direction.....

I did show this briefly in another post.....

I decided to paint the hearts red, orange and yellow in keeping with the color theme that I have on the Front Porch for the Summer months....

On the weekend, I took it a bit further and outlined the hearts using a permanent black marker.....

I had also dry brushed some antique white colored paint on the back ground.....

 Not bad for free???

And gave it a coat of polyurethane as it will be exposed to the elements......

I hung it on the Front Porch.....

I will be sharing more about this and adding some black and white checked bows when I share how the Front Porch is decorated for Summer in my next post......

Joe had bought this sign at the end of last Summer for only $4.00 and in using a $5 off $15 coupon at Big Lot's, it too was FREE!!

I gave it a coat of polyurethane and will hang it out in our back Patio!!

Well, I hope this post brought a smile to your face and maybe made you chuckle a bit after reading about my poop mishap......

And I hope you will stop by to visit again soon!!

Stay safe, healthy and most of all, HAPPY!!

Thanks to those who took the time out of their busy day to spend a little bit of time with me!!

  1. Those were some great deals on the holiday decorations! I love the way you repurpose them.

We ended up with FOUR inches of snow after having 70 degree temperatures the week before. And next Tuesday they are saying it will be 81 degrees. Mother Nature has really lost her mind this year!

  2. Ah, we managed only flurries, but the cold has put everything on hold in the yard. My you have a lot going on in your yard, and haven't even started with the plants...lol. I love the refresh on the signs...everything needs a freshening. I will be seeking out some chairs for my pots and paint will be involved. Hugs, Sandi

  4. Spring is clearly landing at your house! We had a few flurries but nothing that materialized. It's supposed to be nice this weekend, though. Well, actually not. Rainy. But warm!

    Happy weekend!

  5. Wow, Joe got some really good deals. I'm gonna go out on a limb and say Joe likes to shop. Sorry about the poop accident. Hopefully they weren't a favorite pair of shoes. Faye is so cute. And so spoiled by all. Take care!

  6. The weather this year has been crazy across the globe it seems. Normally where I live we would be wearing shorts, tank tops, & flip flops. One day last week it got down in the low 50s again. Crazy for us! Some days it gets in the low to mid 70s at midday. It's shockingly pleasant. We have two seasons here lol. Cold & the 90s. Joe got great deals. Thanks for sharing with Happiness is Homemade. I'd love you and your readers to stop by and share with our audience on Traffic Jam Weekend with Life as a LEO Wife too! Love the budding porch decor!
