I am a Victorian Soul, who lives in a small townhouse that was built in the mid 1970's, not a huge Mega Mansion!! I just recently lost my Hubby Joe, who was a Retired Letter Carrier. I worked night shift as an RN on a Hospital based Rehabilitation( Physical Medicine) Unit for 37 years before I had Knee Replacement Surgery and officially Retired in 2019 after 41 years working in Direct Patient Care ... I am so glad that we retired at 62 years of age and got to spend that time together before he passed....I still do love Retirement!!!!

I DABBLE IN A BIT OF THIS AND THAT!!!!

Easter Hutch in the Kitchen

 Welcome to Debbie-Dabble Blog!!
I am so happy you decided to stop by!!

Today, I will be sharing how I decorated the Hutch in our Kitchen for Easter.....

But first, a few personal notes......

This was quite an interesting week......

On Monday, Joe was given this simple bouquet from Management at Wegman's for "All that You do"!!
A nice simple gesture of appreciation along with many other ways that Wegman's is showing appreciation to their employees like a $2.00 increase for the entire month of March and April being paid in monthly bonus checks, discount coupons for purchases, not scheduling employees for more than 5-6 hour shifts unless they want more hours, giving breaks every 1/2 hour for hand washing, etc.
On Tuesday, we made a joint decision that our oldest son, Joe, move in with us for the duration of this health crisis.

Since he was now working from home that meant he was now alone in his apartment 24/7 with no other human contact.

Not a good situation for anyone's mental health.....

Even though he lives 5 minutes up the road from us, instead of running back and forth, he is "living" here and working from home in his apartment....

If things get worse, we can move all his work equipment here in our sitting room for him

Unfortunately, I do not have an extra bed so our 6'4" son is sleeping on this set up......
17 years ago, I bought a love seat rather than a full size sofa to have more room in the Living Room and to prevent Joe from constantly laying on the sofa which irritated me to no end!!!

Needless to say, it did not stop Joe from laying down .....

Nor did I know that after surgery for repair of 4 abdominal hernias from constantly lifting patients, I would spend 1 month sleeping downstairs and after my knee replacement surgery, I would spend 2 1/2 months sleeping here on this same set up!!
Joey says it is actually quite comfortable and I can attest to that!!

On Wednesday, March 25th, I received my first Social Security check!!!!
Happy Day!!!

Especially because I resigned from my job 6 months ago without any financial income!!

My Retirement Annuity payments of $1000 a month for life, that I had set up 2 years ago, started in February.....

On Friday, we had to have our Plumber come to replace the inner workings of our upstairs toilet as the chain that closes the flap broke off due to corrosion from hard water....

Thank Goodness, plumbers are considered essential workers because with 3 of us now living here, we need 2 completely functioning Bathrooms!!

Today, on March 28th, we are celebrating 42 years of owning our townhouse!!

March 28th, 1978, is when we closed on this townhouse. We paid it off a few years ago as part of our Early Retirement Plan.....

I still intend to have Easter Dinner even though Holy Week and Easter Church Services have been cancelled but will be on Face book or You Tube.....

Our Polish Nut Roll order came in last week......
These taste the closest to the ones that my Mother used to make......

Joe was able to nab a 7 lb. Turkey Breast and I already have a 5 lb. boneless ham in the freezer so we only need a few more things to have our traditional Easter Dinner.....

Joe is on the hunt for those items ...

After all, he is working almost every day in a grocery store......

Okay, that is my personal update for this post......

Like I said it was quite an interesting week....

In my previous post, I shared my Easter Tree in the Kitchen.......
And how I decorated it with some hand made carrot ornaments......
Click HERE if you missed that post......

The  concept of decorating for Easter in the Kitchen using carrots started 2 years ago when Kris, over at  Junk Chic Cottage, gifted me a bunch of carrots after I mentioned how much I liked the ones she shared in a post.....
Thanks again, Kris!!

I carried the "Carrot" Theme over to the Kitchen Hutch......
I decorated the desk area for Easter......
You may remember that I bought this cute Bunny at Dollar Tree......
I added a few carrots to it......
And hung it on the Hutch......
I made a bow out of the same ribbon that I bought at Christmas from Big Lot's that I also used to make a Bow Topper for the Kitchen Easter Tree......
I set up an Easter display on the desk area of the hutch in a carrot theme.....
You may also remember that I bought these cute Carrot Fairy Garden Houses in Dollar Tree.....
And I bought this cute Bunny in J.C.Penney's......
I bought this lighted dome in Big Lot's 3 years ago.......
I used to display it in the Living Room but when I saw the carrot see saw inside of it, it was moved to the Kitchen.......
I used the cute black and white ribbon from Kris's package of carrots that she sent to me!!
I framed this Carrot and Parsley picture that was actually from a calendar.....
I used a black frame that I had in my stash.....
I bought the bright green place mat in Dollar Tree many years ago.....
The Bunnies were bought at Michael's.......
The chicks were yard sale finds......
I tried to stick with a green, orange, red and yellow color theme......
I like how the Easter Tree in the Kitchen ties in with this area of the Hutch.....
Underneath the desk......
On top of a vintage metal picnic basket.....
Chicks, carrots, vintage style eggs and a bunny......
Sitting in front of the picnic basket is an egg plaque .......
I hope you enjoyed seeing how I decorated this area of the Kitchen for Easter using a carrot theme......
I thought I would share how it looks in the Evening.......
In my next post, I will be sharing the rest of the Kitchen decorated for Easter......
And the valances and curtains that I made out of a tablecloth......
And how I finally hung a wreath from one of the cabinet doors.....
I have been wanting to do this for some time now......

I hope you will stop by to visit again soon!!

Stay safe, healthy and happy!!!

  1. Everything is wonderful Debbie! So bright and cheerful, it would be hard to be down in your happy kitchen. This isn't the year for me to decorate, but I hope next year I will be up to it. In the meantime, remember you're not just decorating for yourself...you're doing it for those of us who just can't do it this year. We thank you immensely!

  3. A joy to visit and be inspired by your stunning decor. Glad you are doing OK and that your son has moved in with you. It is certainly not a tie to be alone if it can be avoided. Stay safe.
