I hope you all had a wonderful Easter and got to spend it with those that you love!!
I host dinner here for every Holiday for our little family and Easter was no exception.....
I made a 7 lb. Turkey Breast......
Mashed potatoes, gravy and corn along with my Dad's Sausage Stuffing......
Click HERE if you are interested in the recipe for the stuffing......
A nice 5 lb. boneless ham.......
And a Polish and regional tradition for NEPA....... Kielbasi!!!!
This year, I made Turkey Kielbasi from a local Food Market........
It got the seal of a approval from our sons!!!!
Also some Polish Nut Roll that Joe buys from a friend of a friend of a friend!!
I was really ambitious and also made deviled eggs and baked a double batch of chocolate chip cookies for the kids to take home!!!!
This was the first Easter that I did not have to work Friday night, go to bed in the morning when I got home from work, wake up Saturday afternoon and start to cook Easter dinner or start cooking Saturday morning because I had to work Saturday and Sunday nights since Easter is not considered a Holiday for us and it was my weekend to work!!!
I am SO going to enjoy not having to worry about working on the Holidays!!!!!!
I also want to ask for continued prayers for my dear nephew, John, and his family......
He is waging such a hard fought war against cancer and posted this last week, which broke my heart......
"Cancer is a horrible disease and it really is very hard to deal with. I was sitting at home watching sports with my 17 yr old to see her crying. I asked her why and she said it was because she didn't want me to go. I said I am not going anywhere and she said I know but I never want you to go. It broke my heart how hard this must be on her. I cant ever imagine what my wife and kids are going thru. It breaks my heart even more. Remember it's not the big things, the material things that matter but the small things, the good days and bad that matter the most. Every day I wake up and thank God I am still here for them!!! Please keep them in your prayers, they probably need them more than me!!!"
Photos of John and his daughters, Carly, Caitlin and Cortney........
They are so dear to Joe and I and our hearts break for them.......
Please say a prayer for them and for everyone who is dealing with cancer.....
I am now 1 week away from my Knee Replacement surgery and this is the Goodie bag that I received at Joint Class last week.......
High Protein drinks that I need to drink 3 times a day, even on the morning of surgery, a Surgical scrub that I need to bathe with 5 days prior to the surgery, a bacterial ointment to use in my nose whether or not I test positive for MRSA in the nares and an Incentive Spirameter to help me with deep breathing both before and after surgery!!!
I also have exercises that I have been doing for weeks, taking Iron, Vit. C and Folic Acid for a month and watching videos about the post op course of the surgery through an online education program that I had to sign up for!!
I already have my 1st Physical Therapy appt. scheduled for Thursday after the surgery as I should only be in the hospital overnight, maybe a second night if need be....
I am ready to get this over with!!
In my last post, I shared a few projects that I did in our Kitchen......
Click HERE if you missed that post!!
Before I share a few more projects that I did in our Kitchen, I want to Thank Beverly, over at Across the Blvd., for featuring my post, Bird Nest Tea Cups, from last week's Beautifully Made Linky Party!!
Thanks so much, Beverly!!!
Please stop by and link up to this wonderful party!!!
As I have mentioned before, I have been sprucing up our Kitchen a bit....
Nothing big time, a few little projects.......
This is a section of the counter bar that we had built so I could have more storage especially for my microwave.......
Joe always stores extra bottles of his soda here on the floor.....
I say his soda because the soda I drink is in cans.......
He is picky with a lot of things!!
I had this crate that I got from my neighbor Elly's house.....
It already had the lettering on it so how lucky was that!!!!!
I discovered that I would be able to use it to put the soda bottles in......
To make it easier to get in and out from under the bottom shelf of the counter bar, I thought of this little dolly that Joe bought at Harbor Freight......
I used E 6000 glue to adhere it onto the bottom of the crate.....
The crate holds three 6 packs of soda bottles and fit perfectly under the bottom shelf!!!
I also painted it with a coat of clear Acrylic to darken up the wood a bit.....
I then thought about what I could do to make it easier to pull out and I looked through some of my cabinet handles that I have and found a gold one which I spray painted black to go with the lettering that was already on the crate............
After spray painting the handle black, I screwed the handle on, making it so much more easier to pull out.............
Okay, don't laugh but if you are wondering what is in the wire basket next to the Hot Dog Griller, they are Menu's to all the restaurants around us!!!!
I may love decorating the Kitchen but cooking in it comes in dead last!!!
I once again, hung my sweet strawberry curtain that a blogger friend gifted to me so very long ago......
Now I could move the stool back in......
I like how it all looks with my Kitchen rugs which I already had 2 of but I wanted one more so I sent Joe to J.C. Penney's where I saw they were on sale for $11.99 online.....
Joe gets to the store and they are not on sale but are the full price of $26.00!!
He tells the sale clerk that they are on sale for $11.99 online so she looks them up online and then gives him the sale price of $11.99.....
But I had a $10.00 off reward so the rug came out to only $2.11!!!!!
So if you see something is cheaper online than in the store, tell them about it!!!!
And they wonder why all the brick and mortar stores are closing!!!!
Another project.......
Another thing that I got from my neighbor Elly's house was an embroidered table topper that she made.......
I had no where to put the table topper so I decided to make it into a valance.......
I have always been known to hang valances and curtains where there are no windows!!!!
You can see from these photos from when we did the Kitchen remodel a few years ago, I had a valance hanging between the hall way and the Kitchen.....
Since I have different colors in different rooms, it just seemed to soften the transition into the Kitchen......
I cut the table topper into 2 halves........
I did not want the back of the embroidery to show on either side so I added a second tension rod and hung the 2 halves back to back........
So you can see an embroidered side from the hall way.......
And in the Kitchen.......
And what about the tatting all around it!!!!!
One more project......
I bought this last year on Clearance in Micheal's......
For Christmas, I found a Christmas Card that fit it perfectly.....
I moved it to the top of the refrigerator and ran off a picture of a rooster that I found online....
I then taped it in place.....
Simple.......
And the last project........
This is an Easter wreath that I bought at Michael's years ago for 90% off
I was re-doing several floral arrangements in the Kitchen and had some extra flowers so I decided to add a few flowers to it.......
Red, white and yellow flowers......
Yellow and green butterflies......
I hope you enjoyed seeing how I have been "dabbling" in the Kitchen.......
In previous posts, I also shared a few more projects that I did.....
You may remember the post Place Mats and Roosters.....
The post, Kitchen Rooster Art.....
And A Tale of 2 Boards......
Soon, I will start to share a series of posts on how my newly freshened up French Country, Victorian, Farm Style, Vintage Kitchen looks.......
Starting with this wall.......
Along a few new things that I bought for it.....
So I hope you will stop by to visit again soon!!
Thanks to those who took the time out of their busy day to spend a little bit of time with me!!

Wow girl you have been busy! Everything looks great! I love chickens too! I hope your surgery goes smoothly and you recover fast! I will keep you all in my thoughts and prayers.
ReplyDeleteThanks so much for stopping by and for taking the time to comment!! And thanks for your thoughts and prayers for my upcoming surgery!!
DeleteHugs,
Debbie
I love the way you decorated your kitchen. Debbie you did a great job with all of the cooking you did for Easter and the food looks and sounds fabulous. Also I will be praying for you that your surgery is successful and you have a full recovery. I will say prayers for your nephew too. Good luck with everything.
ReplyDeleteHugs, Julie
Your decorations are always stunning!
ReplyDeleteIt all looks delicious and your family photos are especially wonderful!
ReplyDeleteYour new decors are really nice. I'll pray for your nephew

My mom is going in for her second round of chemo and second week of radiation and is starting to feel the effects of it all. Thankfully her cancer is treatable and by God's grace will be gone at the end of the 7 week round. Prayers for all who are dealing with cancer!

Deb, you are always so energetic. You must really have a thorough doc to be doing all that stuff or have things changed now? I have had my share of surgeries and never was offered anything but pain pills! It would be so hard to watch your family as you are going through something as serious as your nephew is going through. I remember how hard it was on Jake when Tami was going through cancer surgery and treatment but he was young enough to not feel the import of it. . I will continue to keep him in my thoughts., and you, also, as your surgery is coming near..Sounds like you had a wonderful Easter with the family and Happy Wednesday..xxoJudy
ReplyDeleteDebbie I am so sorry to hear about your nephew John, I will be praying for him and all the people who are suffering. I love what you did with the kitchen and I think your crate with the wheels is a very smart idea. And the table topper that was cut in two and turned into a valence is also very pretty. We are going to celebrate our Easter this coming Sunday and it will be with the traditional roasted leg of lamb. Wishing you a speedy recovery on your knee surgery.
ReplyDeleteHow happy your family looks, Debbie. I'm glad you had such a cozy, lovely Easter. The food certainly looks wonderful.

Sending much love to you and John and his beautiful family Debbie. You're always in our thoughts. Cancer is a terrible, horrible disease and it's not fair that someone has to go through that, especially when they're still so young. I'll be praying for them and you my friend. I'm sure your knee op will be a huge success
ReplyDeleteWell I certainly am praying for John and his family. We often don't think about the burden the sick person carries regarding how everyone else is feeling about them. It looks like you are quite prepared for the surgery! I am confident you will fly through this and wonder why you didn't do it sooner! I know so many people including my mom and a sister that have been through it. The first few days are the roughest but then you gradually improve! Big hugs coming your way!
ReplyDeletePraying for your surgery. I'll be praying for John too. I look forward to an update. I love your solution for the cokes. I don't like drinking out of bottles. I like cans on the rare occasion we have coke. Red kitchens are very fun.
ReplyDeleteYour apple crate is so cute. Thanks for sharing at Vintage Charm!
ReplyDeleteWill pray for your upcoming surgery and John, too. When you listed off the supplies, I fully expected to see a Cryrocuff--so much easier than messy ice packs. A grabber/reacher will make things easier till you can fully bend, too! Really enjoyed seeing your kitchen. Loved the wheels on the crate!
ReplyDeleteKathy,
Deletewe use Polar Care Ice Machines which I will be taking home with me...Already have a tub to put it in so my floors do not get wet because they do tend to be a bit messy when you change the ice and water. I have a rolling walker, a quad cane , a shower chair and a grabber at home. ready to go!! I guess one can tell I was a Rehab Nurse!! LOL!! Thanks for your prayers for my surgery and for my nephew..It is greatly appreciated!!!
Hugs,
deb
Debbie, I hope your surgery goes well. I like how they now do PREhab as well as REhab for the replacement surgeries. A friend just had a hip replacement and is doing well. He wrecked his hip helping someone move, happened in a stairwell. I really like that crate and the clever way you made it easier to use by attaching a little dolly to the bottom and a handle in front.
ReplyDeleteI love the crate on the wheels! Darling and brilliant. Praying for John and his family, too. Thanks for sharing at #heartandsoullinkup
ReplyDeleteDebbie,
ReplyDeleteI love that crate on wheels. I have a place in my new pantry area where this would be perfect. Pinned.
Congrats, you are being featured at Over The Moon Linky party.
