I am a Victorian Soul, who lives in a small townhouse that was built in the mid 1970's, not a huge Mega Mansion!! I just recently lost my Hubby Joe, who was a Retired Letter Carrier. I worked night shift as an RN on a Hospital based Rehabilitation( Physical Medicine) Unit for 37 years before I had Knee Replacement Surgery and officially Retired in 2019 after 41 years working in Direct Patient Care ... I am so glad that we retired at 62 years of age and got to spend that time together before he passed....I still do love Retirement!!!!

A Spring Vignette in the Den

   Welcome to Debbie-Dabble Blog!!
I am so happy you decided to stop by!!

I will not be doing any Holiday decorating for Easter this year because of my upcoming Knee Replacement Surgery which I scheduled for the week after Easter.....

With the pain that I am currently experiencing in my knee, I will be honest to say it has been a struggle just to take down and pack up the Valentine decorations........

So because of that, I have just been returning our house to "Normal" decor, whatever that might be.......

I want to Thank Bev, over at Eclectic Red Barn, for featuring my post, Life Changes in an Instant, from last week's Over the Moon Linky Party!!!
Thanks so much, Bev!!

Please stop by and link up to this lovely party!!!

Unfortunately, Joe brought home a "Cold" that we think he caught since he is exposed to a lot of people, working at Wegman's....

He got a case of the "sniffles" and I ended up with a full blown cold, slight fever, a cough and sore throat!!!

I have been "Letting Go" of some things around the house and have taken tons of boxes to Salvation Army and gave away some things to family....

I packed away the Winter decorations in the Den even though Winter is still has it's icy grip on us here in NEPA .......

These are photos of the Winter storm that dropped about 4 inches of Snow on us this past Sunday night......
I took them from our front door.....
 It was a pretty snowfall......
Sticking to the shrubbery and trees........
It almost looks like cotton.......
Maybe this will be the last snowfall of the Season but I am not betting on it as March can be quite a snowy month for us......

If you remember, this is what the China Cupboard looked like decorated for Winter......
Click HERE if you missed that post......

This is what the top of the China Cupboard looked like decorated for Winter......
When the China Cupboard is not decorated for any Holidays, it is where I display my collection of Red and Blue Transferware Collection, which I bought at Yard Sales, Flea Markets and Estate Sales..............

The color theme of the Den is blue, beige and burgundy and the room sort of has more of an English Tudor feel rather than the Victorian style that the rest of our townhouse has.....

When we turned what was the Patio off the back of the house into another room, I decided to call it The Den because I loved the idea of an English Den........

This is what the China Cupboard now looks like......
In this post, I am going to share a Spring like vignette on the top of the China Cupboard.....
Thinking Spring, I wanted to decorate with birds and a bird cage that I have had forever and use some of my pieces of Transferware instead of storing them in a hutch unseen.......
On a pedestal is the bird cage which I placed on a casserole dish........
I have used the lid from the casserole dish elsewhere......
Even though I have shared my Transferware Collection many times in the past, I have not shown the markings of the pieces.......
This is the marking on the bottom of the casserole......

The picture on the wall looks very much like a Thomas Kinkade painting but it is not........
It is a picture that I got many years ago from the Home and Garden Party plan......
On a stack of "books" , one is a book box and the other is a ceramic "book" planter, is a Lighthouse paying homage to the Lighthouse in the picture.....
The blue and white birds were bought many years ago at Michael's.........
A birds's nest rests on easel.....
In the other side of the top of the China Cupboard, on top of a blue velvet box covering with a lace doily.......
Is a blue Transferware bowl and pitcher that I bought at Salvation Army a long time ago......
I filled it with burgundy and blue flowers with baby's breath......

There is no markings on the bottom of the bowl and pitcher.....

I love the scenes on Transferware dishes.......
Below the bowl and pitcher, is a red Transferware tea cup and saucer....
The pattern is similar to the pattern on the sugar bowl and creamer........
  But the markings are different.....

Is a Thomas Kinkade Calendar......
Doesn't the "March" plate look like a cottage in Ireland, perfect for St. Patrick's Day......
Below the calendar hangs another Thomas Kinkade plate......
The Den is where I display a lot of my Thomas Kinkade items......
I hope you enjoyed seeing this vignette.........
In my next post, I will be sharing what the inside of the China Cupboard looks like......
I have arranged things a bit differently than all the other times that you have seen it before.....

So I hope that you will come back to visit again!!!

  2. The cabinet itself is gorgeous, but your collection of transferware is so very pretty.
You were in my thoughts as I read about the latest snowstorm. Sounds like you've been busy! And I hope Joe is feeling better. Do take care.
    Blessings, Linda

    1. Linda,
Thanks so much for stopping by!! My neighbor was going to throw out this cabinet!! She asked me if I wanted it and of course, i said YES!! I painted it to match 2 end tables that are in the Den that Joe bought at a sale when one of the church's in his home town was joining with another. He bought the end tables for $6.00 each!! I have tried to keep busy because I am not one to sit around but it does amaze me at how tired I get because the pain in my knee is rather taxing on me....
      Hugs,
      Deb

  3. I understand you not decorating for Easter. It's better that you stay off your knee. One of my sisters is having a hip replacement the first of April.
You have some nice pieces of transferware dishes. Take it easy and take care of yourself. Thelma

  4. We had that same storm Sunday night and into Monday. We got a good blanket of snow and it's pretty. I'm just anxious to see the end of it because we've had heaps of snow since November. I always swoon over your transferware, Debbie. It is so gorgeous! I know you have many more treasures inside the cabinet. Do take care and baby that knee. Hope you are doing well considering everything. Hugs

  6. You have a beautiful collection of transferware, Debbie! I love all the sweet little scenes on them. Sorry that you both caught a cold on top of already being in pain with your knee! Take care and stay off that slippery snow. It sure is pretty, though. It's snowing here right now. I am anxious for spring . Your little blue-birds are so darling. Hugs xo Karen

  9. HI Debbie. Glad to read that you have your surgery scheduled. When I needed a new hip last summer, a friend invited me to join a hip and knee replacement page. If you would like, you can friend me and I can invite you - even though you have worked as a nurse for many years, the info sharing is good and people have shared tips for recovery. 11. I am so glad that you have your knee surgery scheduled.....You will be amazed at how good you will get around once you've recuperated. I have been busy decluttering too......over 100 boxes have gone to the auction, and a ton of stuff went to the Lighthouse. It has been so liberating to get rid of some of the clutter...lol! I'm not finished yet though.....more needs to go to get things in some sort of "order" xo Penny

  12. Love your spring vignette, Debbie! I especially love the birds and the bird's nest. So cute! I am so ready for spring to arrive. I told my daughter (4 years old) a few weeks ago that spring would be here in March. (Here in the Mid-South, March is usually a fairly mild month.) Now that it is March, she keeps asking me why it isn't spring yet. Hopefully, spring will arrive soon! Thanks for sharing at Sweet Inspiration!
