They say Grief comes in Waves...
Well, I got hit with a tidal wave yesterday morning and just could not get myself together....
My Son Jim posted this yesterday on FB, on what would have been my late husband Joe's 71st Birthday....
"Happy Birthday up in Heaven Dad. I can’t believe its been well over a year since you’ve been gone. I’ve made some mistakes since you’ve been gone. Life, am I right? But I still hope you are proud of me. I remember when we found out everything that was going on, one of the hardest things for me was realizing how much of Lily and Gigi growing up you were gonna miss because of how unfair life is. And with how big and smart they are getting that definitely hasn’t gotten any easier and probably never will. But I know that you are still always watching them and watching over all of us. What happened with you was a constant reminder to me to be grateful for what I have and to never take anything or anybody for granted. Every moment is precious. I don’t wanna end this on sounding all sad and depressed, I don’t like to do that. So I’ll say that Lily and Gigi are in a phase now where they pretty much don’t like anybody that isn’t me and Danielle. They scream and cry at everyone else. I do the same so I can’t judge. So right now isn’t exactly the worst time to not be around them. When the time is right though they will definitely learn and know how great of a grandfather you were/are/and would have been to them."
Can I simply say that it ripped my heart apart?????
And then I had to go to a Mass at my church that was being offered up for Joe....
I want to THANK all my friends at Saint Maria Goretti who comforted me this morning at Mass...
To Carol and Betty for taking up the offering as I just could not ( thank you Carol for the Mass ) to Mark, Michelle, Rosemary and Deacon Mike for some much needed hugs.....
I do not know what I would have done without my SMG family over the last year and a half.....
THANK YOU so much!!!!
Yesterday, I needed to give myself some Grace......
Joey & I celebrated Joe's Birthday using a Gift Card from Olive Garden and ordered Take Home so we could enjoy it in the privacy of our own home as I much rather that then being crowded in a restaurant , having to listen to everyone else's conversations as no one seems to know how to speak in low tones anymore!!...
I got the Tour of Italy, which is Fettucine Alfredo, Chicken Parm and Lasagna....
Joey got the Fettucine Alfredo with Chicken....
Since Joey does not eat salads and does not like the soups, he got a side of Fried Mozzarella.....
I then ordered 2 of the Chicken & Gnocchi Soup ....
And of course, it came with Garlic Sticks!
I could not finish my meal so that will be another meal for me with one of the containers of soup...
I also ordered 2 of the $6 Take Home Entrees, both Baked Ziti....
Joey and I will have the Baked Ziti tomorrow for dinner today!!
All you do is pop it in the microwave for 2.5 to 3.5 minutes!!
I will have the other soup with something else for another meal, maybe the Baked Ziti that I will not be able to finish...
So we were able to get 6 meals out of all of this!!!
4 for me and 2 for Joey.....
All for about $70 which included a $10 tip....
Today, I am going to be sharing something that I have not shared in a long time.....
The shelf above the Counter Bar in my Kitchen....
First, I am going to give you a bit of history about this shelf and why I put it up.....
I frequently mention my late neighbor Elly , who was quite the vintage and antique Collector along with being an amazing decorator....
Her sons told me I could take whatever I wanted from her house as payment for cleaning it out when she passed away....
I think I made out on that deal....
She had someone take out the soffit above her Kitchen cabinets, construct a shelf on top of her cabinets where she displayed a wealth of wonderful vintage Kitchen wares....
Many of them that I am now in possession of....
My sons had long shelves on one wall in their bedrooms that were installed close to the ceiling where they kept DVD's and books....
When they moved out, I took one of those shelves down and found out that it would be the perfect fit in my Kitchen.....
I painted gingerbread brackets red that hold the shelf up and added a thin piece of molding to the front of the shelf, painting that red too.....
Over the years, I changed up what I displayed on that shelf....
On Saturday, I took everything down from the shelf, cleaned everything and rearranged it....
This is where the shelf starts, in the corner above the refrigerator....
I bought this wallpaper border many years ago from an EBay wallpaper store....
This was my neighbor Elly's and I love it!!!
The mirrored backing does make it hard to photograph...
A Guide to a Housewife's Worth
I placed a vintage hand made doily on the end of the shelf....
Elly had several boxes of antique/vintage canning jars....
I kept some and gave some to friends.....
There are several ways in which to identify when they were manufactured.....
I identified that it was manufactured from 1900- 1923, using the Ball signature....
But the IDEAL dates it from 1915 - 1962
I filled it half way with rice....
I bought this at a church flea market.....
Holt, Howard 1960
I found it valued at about $40
And here they are on the shelf.....
It is marked Japan on the bottom.....
I thought it was interesting that this piece and the shakers from the deviled egg set have the holes in the front of the piece and not on top like so many sets are made nowadays!!
Next to it is a seed packet ornament bought for 25 cents at a yard sale.....
Juice
Measurements....up to 32 OZ.
This was my Mother's sifter that she got from her Mother....
My Mother would be 106 years old this year, born in 1919....
I found out this was made in the 1920's....
Jacob Bromwell moved from Baltimore to Cincinnati in 1819 via the Ohio River on a flatboat. He brought a few wire looms with him to use in his company. He became the first wire manufacturer in the west when he founded the Bromwell Brush and Wire Goods Company, Inc. He opened up his company in a six story house in downtown Cincinnati, at 181 Walnut Street. At the time, the company catalogue contained over 1000 products.
In the late 1800s and early 1900s, the Bromwell Brush and Wire Goods Company operated seven factories, had upwards of 1000 employees in multiple states, and was the largest business of its kind in the United States. Much of the company's manufacturing was done through convict labor at several prison workhouses where Bromwell Brush and Wire Goods Company rented space and employed the prisoners at wages averaging about 35 cents per day"
Ball PERFECT MASON
But the PERFECT identifies it as 1913-1922
I placed this Mason Jar on top of another vintage styled tin from The Christmas Tree Shop....
More glass spice jars....
This was made here in Scranton, Pa. and valued at between $50-$150, depending on condition....
I placed 2 white hen napkin holders ( a set of 4 for $1 at a church flea market) ad 4 of the spice jars in front of it.....
Atlas E-Z Seal
"The Atlas E-Z Seal jar, produced from the early 1900s to the 1950s, is a popular style among collectors due to its unique lid locking system. The jar has the Atlas name in block letters and the embossed “E-Z Seal,” a design that sets it apart from other Atlas Mason jars."
I displayed it on the floor on the side of the counter bar.....
Thanks to those who took the time out of their busy day to spend a little bit of time with me!!

Yes grief comes in waves. So glad your son Joey was with you and it sounds like a delicious meal.
ReplyDeleteOh my gosh, I love all those antique Ball mason jars. I’ll have to look at mine to see how old they are. What caught my eye were those canister sets - one roses and the other apples. I’d give my eye teeth to find some. That really takes me back.
You take care now. God Bless you! 🌹
