I am a Victorian Soul, who lives in a small townhouse that was built in the mid 1970's, not a huge Mega Mansion!! I just recently lost my Hubby Joe, who was a Retired Letter Carrier. I worked night shift as an RN on a Hospital based Rehabilitation( Physical Medicine) Unit for 37 years before I had Knee Replacement Surgery and officially Retired in 2019 after 41 years working in Direct Patient Care ... I am so glad that we retired at 62 years of age and got to spend that time together before he passed....I still do love Retirement!!!!

In my last post, I shared two tablescapes and a July 4th celebration....

And now for a few Personal Notes...

FORGIVE like MARIA...

Another successful Feast Day Celebration Weekend at Saint Maria Goretti Parish...

We set all the tables in our Parish Center in red and white tablecloths with little vases with a lily in them as a centerpiece......

All 3 weekend Masses were said in fluent Italian, the language spoken by our Patron Saint, by Father Alex  and Deacon Mike!!

A total of 30 boxes of pizza were served after each Mass......

3 cookie trays, pastries and bagels from a local bakery, Bakery Delite, whose owners are parishioners and Donut Holes from Dunkin were served after the Sunday morning Masses....

And ice cream from another local business, Handel's Ice Cream, was served after the 11am Mass...

I took a trip down Memory Lane by enjoying a scoop of black raspberry because when I was a child, my parents and I would take a ride on Sunday evenings in the Summer to a local Ice Cream Shop and I would get a scoop of black raspberry and a scoop of banana!!!

Great turnouts after every Mass with every table filled!!

I enjoyed talking to old friends I haven't seen in awhile and those I see all the time...

This is the second year now that I have helped out with all of the weekend festivities.....

It was a great weekend of fellowship and community celebrating our little 11 year old Patron Saint!!

Saint Maria Goretti is an Italian virgin martyr of the Catholic Church, known for her purity and forgiveness.

Born in 1890, she was tragically killed in 1902 while defending herself from a sexual attack.

She is the patron saint of purity, children, and victims of sexual abuse.

Before she died, she forgave her attacker....

FORGIVE LIKE MARIA!!

On Sunday evening, I hosted my niece Renae and great nieces Carly and Caitlin for pizza and ice cream along with my son , Joey, of course!!

It a wonderful evening with family...

We enjoyed catching up with each other and had a few good laughs!!!

Even though they have such busy schedules with school and sports and work, we vowed to do this more often...

I shared this beautiful Porch sign that I commissioned Cait to make for me in a previous post....

On the left is Carly, who has her learner's permit now and drove to my house yesterday, and Cait on the right!!

How time flies!!

Today, I am going to be sharing how my little back yard Cottage Garden looked in June!!

All the Missouri Primrose was in full bloom during June even though a lot of the blooms got knocked off by wind and all the heavy rain we had.....

I took these pictures at different times during the month of June so things may look different in some of the pictures....

The left side of the yard...........

Faux flowers in watering can on the table and chair.....

Hens and chicks planted in a vintage strainer.....

The left side of the yard.....

Behind the table on the Patio is a mix of Missouri Primrose in bloom and asters which will bloom in the late Summer/Early Fall.....

Ground sedum in bloom with yellow flowers.....

The walkway I laid with pavers to the arbor.....

Several years ago, I planted Loosestrife on the outer sides of the arbor.....

They are finally "thickening out" and will start to bloom with purple flowers!!!

Those are tree branches that my late husband Joe had cut off our Lilac Tree a few years ago....

I planted impatiens in this vintage watering can!!

Yellow Primrose planted in planters to give out to neighbors and family....

The left back corner of the yard....

Columbine is bloom with pink blooms....

Faux greenery in this watering can.....

Day lilies planted in the back....

Hostas that I transplanted from the front yard into pots....

Now in bloom.....

My Fur Baby Memory Garden.....

Against the back gate which can not be used as the slope behind us is too steep and overgrown with trees for access in and out of my yard....

There is a long planter on the steps that my Dad put in 46 years ago....

So I no longer have to walk back here to water plants that I had a hard time keeping alive, I decided to put faux greenery in this planter that I had in my stash....

In the galvanized vintage pail on top of a pillar, I planted columbine that reseeds itself.....

Looking at the middle flower bed which is between the 2 walkways that I laid myself....

In the back under a Tree, I transplanted hostas....

The Missouri Primrose spread quickly and I will thin them out when I cut them back in a week or so.....

A toadstool and a gnome.....

I also bought one of these for the back yard like I did for the front yard.....

On the side of the bird bath....

Impatiens planted in another vintage watering can.....

Last year, this Lily was gnawed down to nothing by an unknown culprit.....

This year, it is blooming beautifully!!!!

Behind the chair and table on the Patio.....

I had planted Loosestrife quite a few years ago....

The bees love it's purple blooms....

Faux flowers are planted in the 4 pots on the Patio....

The flower bed on the right side of the yard.....

But first, we will take a look at the other side of the middle flower bed....

A Gnome Garden.....

A sun dial.....

The lantern, that comes on by timer from dusk till dawn, has a LED yellow bug light in it.....

A Gnome garden mini flag , sedum, which will bloom in late Summer and a hosta planted in a pot placed inside of the seat of a bistro chair......

The back corner of the middle flower bed by the garden shed.....

A Euonymus, that I recently trimmed, is behind the Purple Leaf Plum Tree.....

I planted faux greenery in the hanging pot I made out of a vintage strainer as I had a heck of a time trying to grow impatiens in it last year....

Looking toward the other side of the yard.....

The walkway to the garden shed.....

More Missouri Primrose and hostas planted in pots....

I planted faux flowers and greenery in these 2 hanging pots....

In front of the trellis.....

On a vintage milk can.....

I planted impatiens in this 3rd vintage watering can....

Well, there you have it!!

The Missouri Primrose is just about finished blooming so I will be cutting it back soon....

  1. Love your new sign, talented lady that made it. Your Missouri primrose, which I call evening primrose, are lovely. Yellow is my favourite colour of flowers. By the path you showed a plant that is stonecrop sedum kamtschaticum, not sure if you knew the name. Another lovely yellow plant in bloom right now. Your solar fountain works well, I'll have to look into one for our birdbath. Lovely walk through your backyard via the photos. Have a lovely day, hope it isn't too hot for you.
