I am a Victorian Soul, who lives in a small townhouse that was built in the mid 1970's, not a huge Mega Mansion!! I just recently lost my Hubby Joe, who was a Retired Letter Carrier. I worked night shift as an RN on a Hospital based Rehabilitation( Physical Medicine) Unit for 37 years before I had Knee Replacement Surgery and officially Retired in 2019 after 41 years working in Direct Patient Care ... I am so glad that we retired at 62 years of age and got to spend that time together before he passed....I still do love Retirement!!!!

I DABBLE IN A BIT OF THIS AND THAT!!!!

 -----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

In my last post, I shared my early Spring front yard along with the new sidewalks put in by the HOA....

Click HERE if you missed that post!!

Before I fell in love with the Victorian era and design, I loved English Tudor style....

When I was a child, there was a beautiful English Tudor style mansion that we would always drive by...

In the evening, with the lights on, you were able to see there was a library on the second floor with floor to ceiling book shelves !!

I would dream about living in that home...

46 years ago, when I decided to turn our Patio, which I had my Dad make into an enclosed porch, into another room, I still loved that English Tudor style....

Which is why I call this room, the Den!

I think this definition of a Den sums it up perfectly!!

" In English design, a "den" refers to a small cozy and informal room inside of a house. It's often used for private activities like reading, working, or relaxing, and can serve as a study, library, home office, or even a personal entertainment space. Dens are typically smaller and more intimate than a traditional living room, allowing for a personalized and comfortable space"

Over the years, I decided to decorate this room in the color theme of ivory, beige, blue and burgundy...

Along with decorating it with red and blue transferware dishes and English Cottage styled accessories....

This is what I call my English Country Cottage corner to the left when you walk into the room....

The room was originally paneled in a wood paneling which I painted over many years ago along with Joe and I installing a chair rail......

I painted the room a deep beige above the chair rail and a blue below it....

I  bought this border on EBay that I put up around the drop ceiling...

That is a picture of Joe's maternal grandparents who were immigrants from Poland...

This is a Christmas mailbox that I bought a long time ago in Michael's....

I hung a tag over the Christmas design on it...

The ornaments of my fur babies were gifted to me by my late neighbor Elly and the "paddle" was hers...

That is the door of a small storage room, which I installed mirrors that I bought at a yard sale on, fully intending to add molding to, creating a french door look....

I made the wreath many years ago....

The Americana sign, hanging from the wreath , is one of the plaques that Joe bought in Big Lot's, a few years back , at 90 % off....

My Cynthia Hart calendar hangs on the door of a pantry closet that I had my Dad build for me....

My late friend Anne Marie always gifted me this calendar for Christmas and even though she was in the hospital, she still ordered this year's calendar for me, sending it to my home....

It became the last gift I would receive from her.....

This was my little corner when my husband Joe was alive because he would watch his hockey games on the TV in the Living Room and I would watch my shows here in the Den....

Since Joe passed way, I have spent very little time out here in the Den....

Last year, I made the mistake of not putting the air conditioner in the window in this room.....

I will not make that mistake this year ...

So I hopefully can spend some time out here in the evenings without having to turn on the larger air conditioner in the Living Room....

When I redecorated this room after Christmas/Winter, I decorated it with "Intention"...

Meaning, I took a good look at the decor I had for this room and thought long and hard as to where I wanted to put it so things are done a bit differently this year...

Those are Thomas Kinkade prints on the wall....

This year, I decided to place all of my Home Interiors cottage figurines on these shelves...

Also using vintage doilies...

This is a Home and Garden Party picture....

More Home Interiors figurines...

I have also used a lot of "books" in this room, paying homage to that library I once loved to look at through those lit windows in that English Tudor mansion....

Joe and I bought this reproduction solid oak Ice Chest cabinet at an Estate Sale that we happened upon in Joe's home town a very long time ago....

It was only $15!!

It was selling on EBay at the time for $400!!!!

I store a lot of seasonal dishes and glass ware inside of it...

To the right of the cabinet in the corner....

This part of the room was once half of a large storage room....

My Dad framed out and made covers for the electrical box and the old phone box....

I will be replacing this electrical box before the end of the Summer so I will have to come up with something else to hide it as it will be larger than the current one....

I keep my Christmas "Believe" signs up year round as I "Beleive" in myself and in God!

An arrangement I made up for this tin pocket with tea stained flags tucked into it......

Joe gifted me the lamp many years ago....

Joe bought this and another end table at a church flea market for $6 each and I refinished both of them....

A Thomas Kinkade clock....

I got the idea on Pinterest of stacking tea cups inside of a cloche...

I used blue transferware and ruby red depression glass ones...

A vintage style wall phone that would actually work if it was hooked up...

The angel was a gift from a friend....

Above the chair....

"Book" ends on each side of this shelf....

Thomas Kinkade cup and saucer sets with a picture of my Mother as a young child ( around 1920-1921) in the center...

I have almost all of my Thomas Kinkade Collection displayed in this room as he liked painting Cottages.....

A vintage lace scarf is on the shelf....

Home Interiors sconces flank this Home and Garden Party picture....

The Victorian style tassel dolls were gifts from a friend....

A sweet Teddy Bear sits on top of the chair.....

The chairs and ottoman in this room are over 25 years old are made in a wing back fashion with cottage style floral fabric, which is now coming back in style...

They were made by England furniture, which is a brand of Lazy Boy, and were a custom made order....

The back door.....

I decided to keep the burgundy curtains up for this Summer...

Another one of Joe's 90% off Buys!

Along with this sign too!!

And this is where I will leave off for today on my tour of the Den decorated for Summer and early Fall....

In my next post on SATURDAY, I will be continuing this tour of my Den...

  3. It's a beautiful and very cozy room, Deb. All those red accents are so charming. The doilies are my favorite part. I need to go take mine out of the closet and pepper them about the house. Thanks for the inspiration! Have a great weekend!
