Blogging has always been a stress reliever for me along with an avenue to share my passions which are my home and my garden.....

I feel it is a personal Journal that, hopefully, someday, my Twin Granddaughters will be able to look back on to learn about who I was....

I will be posting 3 times a week on MONDAYS, THURSDAYS and SATURDAYS....

As always, click on each picture if you would like to enlarge it....

In my last post, I shared how I decorated the china cupboard and the area around it in my Den in an Americana theme....

Click HERE if you missed that post!!

I want to Thank to Jennifer, over at Studio 27 by Jennifer Adams, for featuring my post, Early Spring Front Yard and New Sidewalks, as one of her features from last week's Wednesdays in the Studio link party!!

Thanks so much Jennifer!!

Please stop by and link up to this lovely party!!

On Tuesday, May 13th, we celebrated Mother's Day together as a family......

I set an extremely simple table for a big family dinner....

Very simple as my twin granddaughters love to pull things off the table!!

LOL!!

Crystal glassware, gold flatware and a white dinner plate with a gold trim....

I received correspondence on almost a monthly basis for this first year from the Hospice Unit where my husband Joe spent his last hours....

Prior to Thanksgiving, one of their tips for the Holidays was to light a candle on the table in memory of the loved one you lost..

I have been placing Joe's Memorial Candle that I was gifted during a special Mass at our church, remembering all the parishioners that passed away in the year from one All Soul's Day to he next...

I really love this new tradition for all our family Holiday dinners....

It makes me feel that Joe is here with us.....

I need a lot of room on the table as my son Joey always says " You need to have room for the food"!

Instead our usual pizza party, I decided that we were going to enjoy food that we usually only have for Christmas Eve and New Year's Eve Dinner....

I ordered from one of our favorite places, Valley Seafood!!

Scallops and Uncle Bob's Seafood Cakes!!

I have no idea who Uncle Bob is but these tasty cakes contain shrimp, lobster and crab!!

Chicken tenders as Joey does not eat seafood....

Shrimp...

And French Fries....

And we enjoyed a Carvel Ice Cream Cake because there is always room for ice cream....

They really enjoyed this meal as there were only 2 chicken fingers and a half of a seafood cake left!!

LOL!

I actually renamed this Holiday as Parent's Day....

Instead of just celebrating me and my wonderful DIL Danielle for Mother's Day, I wanted to also celebrate my son Jim for being such an outstanding hands on Dad...

Jim will be celebrating Father's Day at home after work ( they both work every weekend so they can have Tuesday and Wednesday off together) that Sunday with his own sweet little family as he very well should....

Without Joe being here, we no longer celebrate Father's Day here and that is perfectly okay...

So I gave both Jim and Danielle their Parent's Day gifts on Tuesday and celebrated with one of their favorite meals....

So much better than going out to an over crowded restaurant with no privacy...

We always celebrated Mother's and Father's Day at home because I usually had to work that weekend...

And even when I didn't, we preferred the quietness and privacy of our own home compared to the mass bedlam that Mother's Day brings to restaurants!!

LOL!

Lily was teething and tired and was a bit cranky when they first came but fell asleep in her Mama's arms...

Meanwhile Gigi was wide awake and enjoyed Daddy feeding her french fries and ice cream cake!!

She kept licking her lips and smiling...

Faye had to jump up on Mimi's chair to see what was so good up on the table...

Gigi and Daddy....

Gigi was also laughing and teasing Uncle Joey...

 Lily was still sound asleep....

Too bad she missed out on the ice cream cake...

After moving into the Living Room, Lily finally woke up......

Gigi teasing Mimi....

 Lily is now awake!!

Azumi planted herself firmly in the middle of everyone on the sofa....

Gigi kept petting Azumi who was just loving it!!

The twins love to play with Mimi's Bears when they visit....

Lily holding 2 of Mimi's Patriotic Bears...

Then Lily and Gigi had some play time running through the Dining Room into the Kitchen, down the hallway back into the Living Room with Faye, Azumi, Mama and Daddy running after them....

Reminded me of when my boys did this but on little bikes!!

She also gave Uncle Joey a dog toy so he could throw it for Faye to catch to get a treat!!

Getting the twins ready to go home...

They have outgrown their baby car seats so Jim and Danielle now are taking them out of the new car seats and carrying them into the house...

They will be 17 months old on the 29th!!

They are growing so fast...

I also want to share the gifts I received for Mother's Day....

Joey gifted me a Walmart gift card which I definitely will enjoy using...

Jim, Danielle, the Twins and the Pups gifted me these beautiful things...

Pictures do not do this beautiful lighted cloche justice!!

With the lights out in the room....

I LOVE this!!!

I now need to find the perfect place for it...

I also LOVE this sweet box.....

Inside of it were a few pictures of the Twins....

I will choose one for the frame inside the lid....

And the rest will be added to Mimi's Memory Book that they gifted me last year....

I LOVE all my gifts but most of all, I LOVED spending time with my family....

I am so very proud of the parents that Jim and Danielle have become....

Since the day that the twins were born, they have been the sole caretakers of these sweet babies, asking for no help and turning down the help that was offered...

They work opposite shifts so they do not need any baby sitters...

Joe and I did the same thing when our sons were young....

I also never had help from anyone as our Mothers both worked full time....

We all laughed and said we had to celebrate Uncle's Day for Joey!!

Tuesday was also the One Year Anniversary of Joe's Memorial Service....

I know Joe would have loved that we all wore his hockey jerseys and enjoyed his favorite food, pizza, after his funeral service at our home....

One year later, we replaced any sad thoughts that that day brought on with a wonderful family celebration that brought us laughter and joy...

I can now say that the 1st year is officially over and we got through it...

Joe wanted us to continue on and live our lives to the fullest...

I hope to do him proud and live the rest of my life for both of us....

Until we will see him again....

Last evening, on Wednesday, Joey and I attended a lecture at my church, Saint Maria Goretti, given by my pastor Father Alex Roche and his friend Father Ryan Glenn on the history of the Papacy!!

We thoroughly enjoyed this lecture and would love to see more events like this !!

We are all so thrilled that we have an American Pope!!

Pope Leo, the 14th!!

 May God Bless Him!!

Joey and I will also be going to see Alice Cooper in concert at our Arena next week!!

Joe, Joey and I had tickets to see him 5 years ago but that concert was cancelled because of the Pandemic so I guess you can say that we are finishing something we started 5 years ago....

Again, I feel like a huge weight has been lifted from my shoulders since this first year is now over.....

I think my sons feel the same way too....

We will love Joe forever and never ever forget him but Life Does Go On....

Until we will see him again....

I hope you will stop by to visit again on SATURDAY for my next post....

Stay safe, healthy and most of all, HAPPY!!

  5. Those one year anniversaries are hard, aren't they. But you have celebrated all that was beautiful and that is just lovely. The idea of parent's day is a good one. I can tell you had a glorious Mother's Day from the food right down to the company, which I'm sure was the best part.

  7. What a lovely post, Deb! And what a beautiful new memory you made this Mother's Day! Those seafood cakes sound yummy! You and your family have so much to be proud of - the many ways you've honored Joe this past year and will continue to do so speaks volumes about your love for him, now and always!

  10. What a great way to celebrate family! Your beautiful granddaughters are growing so fast and they will remember these events all their lives -- and recreate them for their families as well. We are having a family reunion this summer -- 77 years in a row! Those seeds were planted by a loving grandmother, just like you. I vote for Uncle's Day, too! I've marked the first year, as well, without my beloved and am finding more peace in the second -- but the moments of remembering now come unexpectedly and so deeply. I was not prepared for that. And yay for Pope Leo -- I am not Catholic, but he is a good man and the kind of leader the world needs.
