Welcome to Debbie-Dabble Blog!!

I am so happy you decided to stop by!!

Just a reminder, I will be posting on Wednesdays and Sundays every week so be sure to check back on those days to see a new post......

Today, I am starting a Series of Blog Posts titled, What's in Your........"

I will be starting this series with What's in Your Hutch : Moss Rose Collection, showcasing my Dining Room Hutch....

But first, I want to Thank Linda, over at Life and Linda, for choosing my post, More Easter..... Crafts, Decorations, Buys and Nelson Crest,as one of her features from last week's Love Your Creativity Link Party!!

Thanks so much, Linda!!

Please stop by and link up to this charming party!!!

But first, a few Personal Notes...

 Food of the Week

I hope you had a very Happy Easter and got to spend it with those that you love....

In my last post, I shared some of the food that I made for Easter Dinner for my family of 5.....

This is a 3 pound Butterball boneless turkey breast.....

I got nervous that it was not the amount of turkey meat that we usually have so I sent Joe to Price Chopper on Easter morning and he brought home a few chicken fingers...

There was no turkey and chicken fingers left after Easter Dinner

LOL!!....

This is a 3 pound boneless ham....

Just about finished now as we were eating hot ham and cheese sandwiches for Dinner....

 2 rings of regular kielbasi....

 One ring of cheese kielbasi...

 Gone by Monday

 My Dad's sausage filling...

 Now gone!

 Deviled Eggs....

 Now gone!

Along with mashed potatoes, gravy and corn......

This was the simple tablescape that I set......

I stopped doing Easter Baskets a very long time ago for the boys but I filled bags with candy and lottery tickets for Jim, Danielle and Joey....

And of course, the hit of our Holidays are the Grand Pups!!!

Azumi.....

 Faye claimed her ottoman.....

Azumi on the ottoman with a toy....

We enjoy them so!!!

In my last post, I shared my Patio Extension Project....

Which also involved straightening the walkway to the shed and redoing the flower beds and mulching them!!

Click HERE if you missed it!!!

On Monday evening into Tuesday, a Nor'Easter moved up the coast and blanketed NEPA with anywhere from 1 inch to 12 inches of snow up in the northern mountain areas!!!!

And even though everyone here always acts so shocked when it snows in April.....

It happens just about every year and in some years, we have gotten a LOT of snow in April!!!

So this is pretty much normal even though people tend to forget from year to year.....

This is what my back yard looked like with the snow.....

About 2-3 inches on the patio furniture....

Looking up toward the woods...

My lilac tree with buds and some leaves on it!!

 My neighbor's forsythias.....

I do plan on finishing up setting the Patio up for Summer by the end of the week.....

One thing is that snow in April does not last long at all!!

I will be leaving my Easter decorations up until next week when I will take them down, clean the rooms that they were in and decorate the Living Room for the Patriotic Summer Holidays which is really the only room I decorate in the Summer....

I will be returning the Dining Room and Kitchen to "Normal",meaning devoid of Holiday decorations....

Now that Easter is over, my Holiday Season is officially over!!

The "Holidays" for me is not just Christmas but it actually starts in September when I decorate most of the house for Fall and Halloween.....

I then change decorations to Christmas, to Winter, to Valentine's and finally to Easter which is about every 4-6 weeks!!

So MY Holiday Season runs from September until the end of April.....

Over 6 months!!!!

With the onset of Summer and the heat and humidity that will be keeping me couped up in my home with air conditioning blasting, I realize that this is the time for me to work on all the craft projects that I want to do, even for different Holidays....

I truly do not have much time during my Holiday Decorating Season to do so!!

So that is a Goal for this Summer when I am stuck in the house, to work on Holiday crafts.....

I have no other BIG outside projects planned for this year as I finished the patio project already....

And I sure do not plan on Landscaping any more neighbor's yards this year like I did last year.....

I am curious to see how all the shrubs that we cut back in the different yards will come back this Summer....

One project that I will work on is this flower bed by our mailboxes that I did enlarge last year to include the large arborvitae....

And then because of it blocking the view of cars coming down our road from the one row of townhouses behind us, they removed it last October!!

So I will be transplanting some perennials from my yard that I need to thin out in this flower bed and mulching it....

 So this should be fun!!

Our Dining Room furniture is Joe's maternal Grandmother's.....

She passed away the year before we were married and left a note that Joe would get to choose whatever he wanted from her home, even before her own children did....

Since I always wanted a Dining Room and my mother did not have a formal Dining Room, I chose the Dining Room furniture...

It was finished in what used to be called a "blond" finish.....

As a Wedding gift, Joe's Uncle George, who lived next door to Joe's parents in a "double block" home, refinished it in a fruitwood stain that I chose, as he was a professional painter.....

When we were looking for a house to buy before we got married, it had to have a Dining Room so I had a place for the Dining Room furniture....

The note that was hand written by Joe's grandmother, who never learned to speak a word of English and only spoke Polish, was found in the drawer of this Hutch, ironically....

And her name was ROSE!!!

Yes, that is why I started to collect Vintage Moss Rose Dishes.....

For the first time this year, I decided to change out the dishes in the Hutch for Christmas and put some of my red transferware and ruby red dishes and glassware in the Hutch....

Now that I am retired, I have more time to "play" house!!!

I liked the way it looked for Christmas.....

So much so that I left it that way for Valentine's Day and the rest of the Winter....

When I was changing everything over to Spring and Easter, it was time to bring back the Moss Rose Collection.....

So I took out everything from the Hutch and set out my Moss Rose on the Dining Room table.....

Now what exactly is Moss Rose patterned china????

The following are all excerpts from what I found online about it....

"The Moss Rose pattern was a popular pattern for many china & dinnerware manufacturers from the early 1800's up to the 1960's."

"In the late 1930's, moss rose patterns were mass produced in Japan to be sold in America"

"The Japanese versions of the pattern vary with slight differences in details and accents."

"The key features that most of the Japan moss rose patterns feature are a white china base with most pieces displaying gold accents or trim."

"Many pieces have embossed features and some feature scalloped edges."

"The floral motifs feature pink moss roses with green leaves and pink or blue vines intertwined."

"Made In Japan Moss Rose pattern tableware has a classic floral look with a wonderful vintage feel."

"The Japanese versions of the pattern are now retired"

I started collecting Moss Rose over 35 years ago when I came upon a Tea Set at a church Flea Market in Wilkes Barre...

It cost $10 for the tea pot, creamer, sugar and 4 sets of tea cups and saucers.....

Sold!!!!

I now have seen this same tea set.....

Having been sold on Ebay and Etsy from anywhere from $50 to $125 for the set!!!!

I picked up other pieces at yard and estate sales, flea markets and thrift shops.....

Found a few interesting pieces too!!!

Curettes....

This demitasse set....

A Tea and Toast set with these pretty scalloped plates.....

A butter dish and egg cups!!

And even an Egg!!

Later, I will share a few other pieces that I have elsewhere in the house......

I like to use white scarves on the shelves inside the Hutch as I feel it shows off the dishes better.....

The glass sliding doors are out right now.....

I also bought some glassware at an estate sale.....

Indian Glass Colony Park Lane Clear Ruby Red Flash Vintage Glassware

6 of the larger goblets

And 6 of the smaller goblets...

And a Kings Crown Thumbprint Ruby Red Creamer and Sugar

I thought that they would look great with the Moss Rose Dishes....

And with the glass doors in....

Several years ago, I installed battery operated puck lights....

For Easter......

Now I do have several other pieces of Moss Rose that I did not use in the Hutch.......

In the small curio next to the Hutch are a few more pieces......

An oil lamp......

 A lighter.....

Another creamer and a small dish....

A hurricane lamp and a tea cup and saucer from a child's Tea Set

A bud vase and a stamp dispenser......

I also have a few pieces in my Bedroom....

 On my Mother's vanity.....

 A mirror....

 And Cologne Bottles......

And I also have 2 other pieces of ruby red glassware in the Den......

An Indiana Glass Diamond Point Candy Dish

I bought this for $1.00 at an estate sale...

And I have not been able to identify this candy dish.....

Also $1.00 at a yard sale

I hope you enjoyed seeing my Moss Rose Collection....

And several pieces of clear and ruby glassware.....

In the future, I will be showcasing what I have on display in my hutches, curios and a china cupboard....

Not sure what my next post on Sunday will be.....

  2. The minute I read "What's in Your Hutch", my answer was "everything but the kitchen sink"! Since my (four) hutches have glass doors, I stash anything and everything I want to keep away from little hands inside bowls, cups and stuffed in nooks and crannies.

Your Moss Rose collection is just wonderful! You make me want to start hunting garage sales, thrift shops and indoor flea markets in search of more dishes that I do not need! I not only, have my "wedding china" (place settings were free with deposits at our local bank and my female relatives gifted me the serving pieces) but also my mother's, my great aunt's and my grandmother's wedding china. My grandfather was a jeweler and his store in our small town was the official bridal registry stop. This does not stop me from purchasing more china.

My favorite are the scalloped plates that you are calling "tea and toast". In my neck of the woods we call them "snack sets" and I love "tea and toast" so much better! I got married at the tail end of this trend and received three different clear glass sets as shower gifts. We used them for punch and dessert at tupperware parties. Over the years I have found many sets at garage sales and Goodwill, and then started collecting milk glass sets, too, after finding 4 plates and one cup in my mother's hutch. Before the pandemic I found three single sets in beautiful florals. In my dreams I have collected all these for the tea shop I will only open as a dream. I have used all the cups (I think I honestly have over 75) for soup or salad for shower parties. And I think I used the cups and plates at my youngest daughter's wedding shower. I have never seen them in your pattern. Another thing to look for! I love all the pieces you have. What a wonderful collection!!!

  3. Such a beautiful collection, Deb. I have always had an affection for anything china related with the rose pattern on it. You have found some treasures over the years and you have them displayed so elegantly. I hope you had a wonderful Easter. Your tablescape was beautiful. I look forward to seeing your patriotic decor when you put it out and of course being inspired. Have a wonderful week. Hugs.

  4. I used to have a tea set in that pattern. Nice memories. Those deviled eggs look good. I still have three hardboiled left from Easter -- I need to make some!

  5. It sounds like you had a delicious Easter. We (thankfully!) didn't get any snow though it did get quite cold for a few days. I can not get over how snowy it was in '83... that's crazy!

Your hutch looks so beautiful with the moss rose collection inside and I love hearing the story of how you inherited your dining set.

  10. Beautiful treasures, with lots of memories. I don't have a hutch or similar anymore, got rid of it in a big kitchen/dining room reno a few years ago. The only thing is a display cabinet with teacups, china bells and a few special mugs. Everything else was put into numerous new cupboards in the kitchen or given away. Have a lovely weekend.

  11. I, too, have a small collection of Moss Rose. Don't know why the pattern moved me, but it did! I also have pieces from different sets of the "courting couple". I inherited a few pieces from my mother-in-law. Loved seeing your Easter meal, too. My Babci always made kielbasa along with ham! Snow missed us here in Maine; we had a few wet snowflakes on the windshield driving to Al's mother's house.

  16. I love your collection of rose moss. My collection started back in 1964 when a great aunt of mine had a small tea party set and it was divided between my sister and my self. I was around 11 years old I've been adding to the pieces ever since. I also offered money to my sister for the pieces she had when we were teens. (she wanted the money lol). Thank you for sharing you collection it's awesome.
