I am a Victorian Soul, who lives in a small townhouse that was built in the mid 1970's, not a huge Mega Mansion!! I just recently lost my Hubby Joe, who was a Retired Letter Carrier. I worked night shift as an RN on a Hospital based Rehabilitation( Physical Medicine) Unit for 37 years before I had Knee Replacement Surgery and officially Retired in 2019 after 41 years working in Direct Patient Care ... I am so glad that we retired at 62 years of age and got to spend that time together before he passed....I still do love Retirement!!!!

I DABBLE IN A BIT OF THIS AND THAT!!!!

The " Mothers" in My Home

 Welcome!!

First, let me wish everyone a Happy Mother's Day!!

If you ever wondered about the origin of Mother's Day, this is what I found on Wikipedia.........

"The modern holiday of Mother's Day was first celebrated in 1908, when Anna Jarvis held a memorial for her mother at St Andrew's Methodist Church in Grafton, West Virginia. St Andrew's Methodist Church now holds the International Mother's Day Shrine. Her campaign to make Mother's Day a recognized holiday in the United States began in 1905, the year her mother, Ann Reeves Jarvis, died. Ann Jarvis had been a peace activist who cared for wounded soldiers on both sides of the American Civil War, and created Mother's Day Work Clubs to address public health issues. Anna Jarvis wanted to honor her mother by continuing the work she started and to set aside a day to honor all mothers because she believed a mother is "the person who has done more for you than anyone in the world".
In 1908, the U.S. Congress rejected a proposal to make Mother's Day an official holiday, joking that they would also have to proclaim a "Mother-in-law's Day". However, owing to the efforts of Anna Jarvis, by 1911 all U.S. states observed the holiday, with some of them officially recognizing Mother's Day as a local holiday (the first being West Virginia, Jarvis' home state, in 1910). In 1914, Woodrow Wilson signed a proclamation designating Mother's Day, held on the second Sunday in May, as a national holiday to honor mothers.
Although Jarvis was successful in founding Mother's Day, she became resentful of the commercialization of the holiday. By the early 1920s, Hallmark Cards and other companies had started selling Mother's Day cards. Jarvis believed that the companies had misinterpreted and exploited the idea of Mother's Day, and that the emphasis of the holiday was on sentiment, not profit. As a result, she organized boycotts of Mother's Day, and threatened to issue lawsuits against the companies involved. Jarvis argued that people should appreciate and honor their mothers through handwritten letters expressing their love and gratitude, instead of buying gifts and pre-made cards.Jarvis protested at a candy makers' convention in Philadelphia in 1923, and at a meeting of American War Mothers in 1925. By this time, carnations had become associated with Mother's Day, and the selling of carnations by the American War Mothers to raise money angered Jarvis, who was arrested for disturbing the peace."

To be honest, I agree with Anna Jarvis about the commercialization of these type of Holidays first by the Greeting Card Companies and in later years by the Retail Industry......

I don't believe in making a big deal out of these Holidays so we  have a quiet and subdued family dinner at home for Mother's Day and Father's Day.....

We order from a favorite restaurant because I HATE going out to eat on such Holidays as everyone and their brother goes out for Dinner and it is usually mass bedlam in these restaurants.....

I am PROUD to say that these 2 guys...........
Don't need a special day to treat me, their Mom, with respect, dignity, appreciation and love..

They treat me that way EVERYDAY!!!!!!

My sons, Jimmy and Joey, are my greatest accomplishments in life and I am so proud to say I am their Mother.......
A girl that I once worked with who had 5 children always said, "You raise your children to grow up and leave you"

Meaning .........To start and have their own life!!

My sons have become strong, kind, generous and independent men......

What more can a Mother ask for?????

So to honor all Mothers everyday, I thought I would showcase some of the "Mothers" in my house......

As I looked around our home, I realized that I have quite a Collection of things related to being a Mother.......

The majority of these items depict Mothers of the Victorian and Edwardian Era which is fitting as the idea for Mother's Day originated in the Edwardian Era.......

Let's have a look, shall we??????

I have plates.........

A vintage one.........
2 Norman Rockwell Mother's Day plates........
And figurines of Mothers with their children.......

A Thomas Kinkade figurine that is part of the Mother and Child Collection.........
"My Love for You is Eternal"
Several Home Interiors figurines......

A new Mother holding her baby........

A Mother fixing her daughter's hair......

A Mother helped her daughter to read.......

A Mother and her 2 children......

A Mother helped her daughter get ready for a Special Event....

I love these 2 figurines as they are a Mother with her sons.........
As  Mom of 2 sons, they make my heart melt!!

A Mother and daughter out for a stroll....
I love how this little girl is looking up adoringly at her Mother.....

 And Pictures........

This was gifted to me by my sons when they were young......
For You, Mother
A Mother is
her family's strength
a source of hope and light
The one her family looks up to
Because she makes
Things right,
A mother is a helper
With a willing hand to lend,
She's more than just
A mother
She's a very special friend
With our Love
And Gratitude
My Mother and I had what I call a Love/Hate Relationship which I know so many daughters have with their Mothers.........
In 2014, 4 years ago,  I wrote a post as a Tribute to My Mom.......

I have always been very honest about my relationship with my Mother.....

If you would like to read A "Different" Mother's Day Tribute, please click HERE.......

(I lost all comments on posts that I copied from my old blog when it was hacked through face book so there are no comments on the posts that I had to copy to the new blog)

The one thing my relationship with my Mother taught me was to be a strong and independent woman........

And the one thing that she always impressed upon me was to "Never be dependent on a Man for anything"

I hope you all get to spend Mother's Day and EVERYDAY with those that you love!!!

I will be spending it with my family even though i am working this weekend....Mother's Day almost always falls on my weekend to work!!

I hope you will be back to visit again soon.......

And thanks to those who took the time out of their busy day to spend a little bit of time with me!!

If you do not have a blog, PLEASE  give me some way to reply to your comment, maybe by including your email in your comment.  If I can not find a way to reach you, I will reply on the post where you commented so please check back......

  9. Enjoyed reading your post and it's so nice to have a quiet dinner at home with our children. I love Mother's Day because Mom always made it a special day with a big meal and all of the brothers and sisters coming to dinner. Mom and I always got an orchid to pin on our dress to wear to church service. Of course we go see mom at the N.H. now but it's a happy place and they make sure there is always festivities going on for special holidays.

  12. Awe, sounds like your boys are wonderful men dear friend. Nothing like the love of our children. We never go out to eat on holidays if I can help it! I am like you. Cannot stand to fight the crowds. I much rather have a nice meal or even a laid back one with my kids and grands at home. For Mother's day we all went to my oldest daughter's home and grilled hamburgers and hotdogs. I was happy as could be! Have a great day dear lady. Hugs and blessings, Cindy

  18. I don't like 'stuff' for Mother's Day either. I rather just spend time with my kids and I'm good. Love the Normal Rockwell plate, reminds me of my mom's collection.
