A Lady's Boudoir Powder Room

 Welcome to Debbie-Dabble Blog!!

I am so happy you decided to stop by!!

Today, I will be sharing how my Powder Room looks "normally", meaning without any Holiday decorations......

But first, I want to Thank Charlene, over at A Pinch of Joy, for featuring my post, A Tail of 2 Different Patriotic Tablescapes, from last week's Busy Monday Link Party!!!

Thanks so much, Charlene!!

Please stop by and link up to this lovely party!!!!

And now for a few Personal Notes...

Joe and I have started a new Landscape project.....

You may remember that Joe and I recently extended and landscaped the flower bed by our mail boxes at the entrance to our Court......

Click HERE if you missed that post....

You may also remember that I posted awhile ago how my next door neighbor's, who were the daughter and grand daughter of the original owners, managed to totally destroy the townhouse next door to me over the 9 years that they lived there.......

After the daughter of the original owners passed away, her daughter, who had mental issues, lived there for almost a year...

Before her uncles could get her out of the house, she went on a path of destruction in the house for spite....

Poured epoxy glue down the sinks and toilets, put holes in the walls with a hammer, smashed the toilets, pulled the thermastats out of the walls, stuffed DVD's down behind the base board heaters in an attempt to cause a fire and so much more.....

I have never seen anything like it in my entire life!!!!!

The new owner has bought the house so her daughter and grandson can live there...

She has managed to gut the house by herself with some help from a few friends....

Unfortunately, she is having a hard time getting her contractor and electrician to come and do the work as they are so back logged because of the Pandemic....

She also told us that she can not get anyone, even kids, to take care of and landscape the front slope and flower beds...

SO..........

Joe and I offered to clean up, trim and mulch her flower beds and slope  for a fee....

She gladly accepted.....

These are some of the BEFORE pictures which are bad as we have had a lot of rain and high temps so the weeds have taken over the slope since they were allowed to grow from years of neglect.....

From the steps up from our parking lot to the sidewalk in front of our row of townhouses.....

The flower bed at the top of the slope....

And the flower bed under the Living Room window.....

Okay.....

I know what you are thinking!!

"Are we freaking nuts!!!!!!!"

Well, I like a challenge and I also figure that the only way to ensure the property next to me looks nice is to do it myself.....

Not to give much away, here are a few pics of Day 1 of what we accomplished so far...

Now mind you, we worked in 88 degree temps. and "tropical" dew points and high humidity....

Yes, I almost passed out and had to go and sit in the house in the air conditioning for some time afterward drinking 2 bottles of Gatorade....

There are about 4-5 hostas under all those weeds which I think will look nice once uncovered and a fresh layer of mulch put on the slope.....

Stay tuned......

In my last post, I shared my Early Summer Kitchen.....

And now on to the Powder Room......

For the most part, those who visit this blog and my Christmas Blog, A Debbie-Dabble Christmas, are used to seeing my Powder Room look like this, decorated for Christmas.....

Click HERE if you would like to see my full blog post on the Powder Room from last Christmas.....

After Christmas, I keep most of these decorations up and just switch out those things that are blatantly Christmas for a few Valentine's touches.....

Click HERE if you missed this post......

I thought I would show you some pictures of how the Powder Room has evolved over the last 43 years.....

In 1978, when bought our townhouse brand new and got married, I went with a green and yellow color theme.....

These are pictures of when we first moved in and those are Hunter Green wicker pieces from Sears that I got for my Bridal Shower....

In the late 80's- early 90's, I painted the Powder Room pink and added a black, pink and blue floral border......

The blue in the wall paper border allowed me to decorate the room for Christmas with blue and white Snow Buddies......

The original flooring in our Powder Room was the same green flooring as in the Kitchen....

When I replaced the flooring in the Kitchen and Powder Room for the first time 34 years ago, I again went with a green flooring as the Powder Room was green and yellow then......

9+ years ago, when we decided to remodel the entire downstairs except for the Den, I wanted to paint the Powder Room a different color.....

Since every room in our home is a different color, I wanted something that I did not already have and that it would be a "neutral" color.....

I decided on gray......

Now this was before gray became the signature color of the farmhouse decorating craze.......

Who knew?????

With our remodel, I painted the walls and replaced the old wall paper border and picked out this slate like laminate flooring.....

The new molding was precision cut on a digital miter saw......

We also had the medicine cabinet replaced and a new light fixture installed.....

It has been 2 years since I posted how the Powder Room looks from May until November when I decorate it for Christmas.....

So I thought I would share it again since it has been a bit of time since I did......

You may remember that I spruced up this wreath that is hung on the Powder Room door.....

Click HERE if you missed that post.....

When I hung it on the door after I finished sprucing it up, I decided to add a Victorian style plaque I made to the center of the wreath.....

It goes with the Powder Room, take my word for it!!!

During this time, the Powder Room is decorated in a pink, white and black color theme......

Except for this corner angel that I bought at a yard sale for $1!!!!!

Remember there was blue in the original wall paper border?????

The area by the sink......

I was able to use all the things that I had accumulated for this bathroom by going to yard sales, estate sales and flea markets even though I painted the walls a different color......

I did have to change a few things around like this shelf which was underneath the original medicine cabinet.....

No problem.....

Silver candle sticks bought at a flea market and French styled tins bought at Michael's.....

Vintage doilies and a perfume bottle with pink flowers in a silver stem vase.....

Hanging under the shelf is a Home Interiors picture whose frame I had spray painted black.....

Hanging next to the picture is a child's lace umbrella that I bought on Clearance after Halloween in Target and embellished with a few flowers and beads......

This picture is one of 2 that I bought at a yard sale with gold frames that I also spray painted black.......

On top of the medicine cabinet.....

Silver mercury glass votives and 2 silver framed pictures of what I call "Ladies in Hats!!!"

I am calling this post a Lady's Boudoir Powder Room.......

In previous posts, I titled it "An Elegant Lady" Powder Room, "Ladies in Hats" Powder Room and "Oh La La" Powder Room!!

My neighbor Elly, who I mention often in my posts had a curio in her bedroom that was full of fancy purses, gloves, brooches, vintage hair comb's, etc.....

She decorated like this when she was in her late 70's!!!

I took her idea and decorated that way in the Powder Room......

With things a Lady would have in her Boudoir!!!

A purse ornament hangs from the handle on the door of the cabinet....

The sink.....

I painted the original cabinet under the sink a gloss black many years ago......

The silhouette plaques belonged to an older woman who was a friend of mine and I bought the Vintage Bathroom block signs on Amazon using a gift card from my son.....

Hanging on the wall between the cabinet and a black wicker shelf unit is the other picture and a pink cherub plaque ....

I painted this shelf unit that I bought at a yard sale black a long time ago.....

On it are more things you would see in a Lady's Boudoir......

A perfume bottle and another tin.....

Soap I embellished and maybe a feather for a Lady's Hat!!

The pictures in the silver frames are what I have called "Instant Relatives" for years.....

All bought at flea markets.....

Another tin....

Another Powder Room sign and towel bar under the shelf unit.....

I just bought these new gray towels at Boscov's using a gift card.....

Black perfume bottles and a vintage pink powder box....

In the corner.....

I bought the chandy at Target years ago......

I bought this vintage tole tray at a yard sale for $1.00!!!

The floral spray came from a church flea market, another purse ornament and the silver purse was a gift....

The estagere was originally used in my Living Room many years ago and I spray painted it black.......

This is where I used Elly's idea of what she had on display in her curio in her bedroom.....

The top shelf......

The pictures of the Ladies in Hats came from former Blogger Angie's Free Graphic site.....

Click HERE to see her site which I checked is still posted...

Pink and black roses including a black one with the poem about growing old that Joe gifted me when I turned 40!!

Perfume bottle, a sterling silver dresser set, a vintage hanky and a black vintage evening purse with a Lady in a Hat pin!!

Vintage pearls and black gloves....

Second shelf......

A Black wire purse, a silver vintage purse and a vintage hair comb......

A picture of my mother as a child and her Father.......

A hat box on the bottom shelf......

On a small round 3 shelf estagere.......

More pink and black flowers.....

The woman in the picture frame is my maternal Grandmother.....

On the other shelves......

On a Home Interiors shelf....

Home Interiors sconce that I spray painted black....

On top of another wicker shelf unit that I painted black........

A picture of a Victorian wedding party.......

The black perfume bottles were bought at a yard sale......

The pictures are of my Mother sitting on her grandmother's steps and the other one is of my Mother as a child......

On the other shelf on the other side of the shelf unit.........

I hung a black vintage purse from the sconce on this side....

Black and white feathers and vintage style pins on the purse........

More "Instant Relatives".....

I painted this Dollar Tree frame pink and cut the pink rose from a wall paper border.....

Cotton Balls and Q Tips are kept in this creamer and sugar bowl.......

Above the washer and dryer closet........

A Victorian style plaque that I made......

And that completes my tour of our Powder Room.......

 I hope you enjoyed it!!

It will stay like this until November when I decorate it for Christmas......

I also hope you will stop by to visit again soon!!

  1. I am a sucker for a pink and black bathroom! When those HGTV shows say they are the first to go, it breaks my heart. I will say your gray is lovely. We need to gut and start over with our bathroom and I am leaning toward gray. You were ahead of your time - it is the "in color" right now. Your powder room is so pretty.

I just LOVE seeing the transformation of different areas of your house!

What a sweet (and smart) thing to do for your neighbor in re the front garden area…and it gives Joe something to do! I cannot wait for the “finished” photos!

Just be sure to take care of yourself!

  6. Hi, Debbie. Wow what a garden project. Perhaps you should split those Hostas in Fall...when they flower they are at their maximum size and probably root bound. Lots of lovelies in your powder room. Very pretty, always loved black Victorian for a twist. Hugs, Sandi

  7. Wow; that is quite an undertaking with that garden... especially in the heat and humidity! I love the Victorian feel of that powder room.

  8. Hi Deb, what a good neighbor you are but I would take pity on your poor new neighbor having to deal with that house. I hope she got it for a good price! That is going to look so nice once you add your touches to those nice plants that are already there, at least they weren't killed! The powder room look so pretty with the gray paint and all your beautiful touches..Stay cool and be careful about working in the heat..xxoJudy
