Family Vignettes in My Craft Room

Welcome to Debbie-Dabble Blog!!
I am so happy you decided to stop by!!

Today, I will be sharing, what I call, Family Vignettes in my Craft Room......

But first, a few Personal Notes.....

After being informed that he would be required to now work weekends and evenings, Joe felt it was time to part ways with Wegman's...

Having had only every 6th weekend OFF as a letter carrier for the US Postal Service, Joe does not want to work any weekends or evenings in his retirement...

Joe did thoroughly enjoy working there especially in The Cafe but that was before this health crisis started.....

Now things are very different and who knows if it will ever go back to the way it was so Joe looked at it as an opportunity to take some time off for himself....

They say when one door closes, another opens...
Also because of the resurgence in cases and the sometimes confrontational behavior of customers in regards to masks and social distancing, Joe feels he will enjoy his retirement for awhile before looking for another part time job...

I am a firm believer that everything happens for a reason......
Some thing will come along when he is ready.....

Hopefully, we will not kill each other in the interim though.....

I was finally able to take advantage of the break in the horrific heat and humidity here and get up the attic to get down the tubs to pack away my Patriotic decorations from the Living Room......

Today, I packed them all away and I am now ready to decorate the Living Room in my "Under the Sea " late Summer theme.....

I am really excited to be decorating this Tree for the first time in that theme.....
Along with this area by the steps too!!
My Lilies are blooming in the back yard but are drying around the base from all this heat.....
And for the first time that I can remember, I am battling slugs and insects eating some of my flowers......

This shows the tale of 2 flowers......

The New Guinea Impatiens on the left is thriving while something is eating these petunias on the right.....
 Slugs, I think!!!

I am so mad about that!!!

I am spraying them with insect spray but I have no idea if they will come back or even if it will help!!

In a previous post, I shared how I decorated the Tree in my Craft Room for Summer in a Tea Party theme......
Click HERE if you missed that post.....

I have to have my "Pretties" around me when I am being creative and crafting in my Craft Room....

My Craft Room was my son Joey's bedroom and when I turned it into a Craft Room, I decorated it in a sage green and pink color theme.....

I kept up all the shelves that once were used for my son's electronics, books, DVD's, etc.....

These shelves were above where the bed used to be.......
Top Shelf.....
The picture in the frame is of my Maternal Grandmother in her late teens.....
A vintage embroidered scarf covers both shelves.....
A friend had given me some of her mother's linens when she passed away.....
The shade on the candlelight is one that I made from a plain white shade.........
Bottom shelf.....
Below the shelves.....
On top of a shelving unit.....
 Without the lights on.....
I always had a display in my Craft Room, honoring the "Mothers" in my life......

This is what it looked like a few years back.....
This year, I decided to split the display between 2 different areas......
On this shelf, I decided to display Wedding pictures of Joe's family.....
On a hanging vintage corner shelf that I painted pink.....
I did embellish the lamp shades on this vintage lamp that was my Mother's....
In a pink, green and white frame from Dollar Tree is a photo of Joe's parents on their Wedding day....
The services of a professional photographer was not enlisted for their wedding pictures....
The bride and groom figurine was a Wedding gift from my Mother.....
I bought the cake topper at a church flea market for $1.00!!
I also bought this rose bud tea set at a church flea market.....
These are photos of Joe's grandparents....
In another Dollar Tree frame is a Wedding picture of Joe's Maternal Grandparents.....
In a gold frame that I painted white and pink is a picture of Joe's Paternal Grandparents....
I bought this shoe at a yard sale years ago......
A pink wax light bulb was used in an electric candle on top of a wooden candle holder.......
This is one of the Victorian styled crafts that I made and sold at local Craft Fairs.....
A tea cup pin cushion on a candlestick......

Above the shelf unit is a mirrored window pane.......
In the evening......
Over on another shelf unit on the opposite side of the room.......
Is where I decided to display  my side of the family......
A framed picture from a Thomas Kinkade calendar hangs on the wall above the shelf unit.....
Another one of my Mother's lamps with a shade that I embellished....
A professional framed Wedding picture of my parents.......
In another Dollar Tree frame is a photo of my Maternal Grandparents as I could not find a Wedding picture of them.......
You can see that my Mother took after her very thin Father as she prided herself in never weighing over 115 pounds........
I, on the other hand, have been told that I look like my Mother's Mother and I also have her body build too!!

In front of the lamp is a glass plaque that my sons gifted me for Mother's Day many years ago.....
I tried putting a white piece of paper so you could see the Saying on it but it did not work out too well.......
This is what it says.......

For You, Mother
A Mother is
her family's strength
a source of hope and light
The one her family looks up to
Because she makes
Things right,
A mother is a helper
With a willing hand to lend,
She's more than just
A mother
She's a very special friend
With our Love
And Gratitude
This is a Wedding picture of my Paternal Grandparents....
I have a book of poems dedicated to Mother's on display.......
And I bought this Mother mug for my Mother when I was a child......

Without the lights on.......
In a future posts, I will be sharing more of my Craft Room Pretties......

  2. Sounds like it was the right time for Joe to move on. I know it is a challenging time out there and people are being incredibly rude to those who are working hard to keep us safe. Totally understand the weekends!

  3. I'm sure Joe will enjoy retirement. Now he can choose what he wants to do around the house or elsewhere. And the last place I'd want to be working these days is a store!

  4. You have so many wonderful treasures in your home. I love peeking at your vignettes. I think I'd love "shopping" your home, too!! ;) I wish Joe the best of luck on whatever life brings him next. Be well!

  7. Always such a pleasure perusing your pretties...lol...three p words...oy. I think the 'staying in'is finally beginning to get to me. I love your weaving in your family, I know photos are comforting and a reminder of days gone by, certainly not a bad thing, now. Hugs, Sandi

  8. What a lovely tribute to your families!
I'm so sorry that your hubby had to deal with people like that at work. It's so sad that people are so divided over something that we should be coming together for.

I hope Joe enjoys his freedom! Don't let little things get under your skin... my hubby and I are home together all day and we haven't had any major annoyances with each other. :) It CAN be done, lol!

Best wishes, Deb! Thanks for sharing your posts with us on Farm Fresh Tuesdays! I'm sorry I don't get a chance to visit and leave a comment as often as I would like but I always enjoy seeing what you've been up to!
