I am a Victorian Soul, who lives in a small townhouse that was built in the mid 1970's, not a huge Mega Mansion!! I just recently lost my Hubby Joe, who was a Retired Letter Carrier. I worked night shift as an RN on a Hospital based Rehabilitation( Physical Medicine) Unit for 37 years before I had Knee Replacement Surgery and officially Retired in 2019 after 41 years working in Direct Patient Care ... I am so glad that we retired at 62 years of age and got to spend that time together before he passed....I still do love Retirement!!!!

I DABBLE IN A BIT OF THIS AND THAT!!!!

Patriotic Clearance Buys and Decorations

Welcome to Debbie-Dabble Blog!!
I am so happy you decided to stop by!!

Can you believe that it is Labor Day weekend???????
I am actually glad that Summer is just about over because I am so looking forward to Fall and the upcoming Holidays.....
Joe and I were out the other day and we stopped in Gabes looking for something else when I saw a huge table of things marked CLEARANCE!!!

I started picking up and looking at a bunch of Patriotic items and realized that they were all marked down to $1.00!!!

Now usually Patriotic decorations are very hard to find so I started grabbing them and putting them in our cart.....
These are 2 wood plaques........
This one is made out of cloth....
I think this one is so cute.....
This one almost looks like a book.....
And I loved this wooden map of the United States.....
Again, they were all marked $1.00!!!
How could I resist??????

Then I walked down an aisle and found these.....
They are canvas covered wood blocks.....
They were both 99 cents each!
And they weren't even marked down!!

Since I will not be changing this display in the Den until I decorate for Christmas, I decided to put out a few things.....
You can see where I placed the canvas covered wood blocks.....
And the wooden map of the United States......
I also put out a few Flags to decorate the front of the house......
This is the first time that I put out Patriotic decorations since I got the new rugs, cushions and pillows on the front porch....
I am really liking the red on the porch....
Just a few flags......
Here......
And there......
I changed out the mini flags for Patriotic ones.....
And I tucked Star picks in the pots planted with impatiens......
Looking out from the front porch.......
I changed out the mail box cover.....
Another flag and a patriotic firecracker tucked into the pots on the park bench.....
In a week or two, I will be decorating the front porch and yard for Fall......
I really can not wait!!!

We are celebrating Labor Day today, Sunday, instead of Monday because Joe will be "Laboring" on Monday from 11 am to 4 pm at Wegman's......

Funny that now I am retired, I do not have to work Holidays anymore and that Joe, who never had to work Holidays is now retired, working part time and decided to work Labor Day so others can have it off.......

It is really no problem and he will then take off  Thanksgiving Day, Christmas Eve and New Year's Day....

In addition to the hot dogs, hamburgs, macaroni salad, corn on the cob, watermelon and ice cream, we will be having potato salad that I made......
 And turkey keilbasi.......
And I even made zucchini bread.....
We are looking forward to spending time with our kids and our nieces.....

I wish you all a Happy Labor Day and I hope you get to spent it with those that you love!!

And I hope you will stop by to visit again soon!!

Thanks to those who took the time out of their busy day to spend a little bit of time with me!!

  2. Wow! You really know how to do the red, white, & blue:) And what bargains! In fact, my most recent blog post is about bargain hunting. I love me a bargain. I haven't been decorating for the holidays (other than Christmas) as much the last couple years for some reason...guess because my two grands are getting older but I'm thinking about pulling out all the FALL stuff this year...maybe even buying a few new things. Thanks for the inspiration:) Happy Labor Day!

  5. Debbie, first off, Congratulations on retirement. I didn't realize you had retired. Is this recent?
Happy you found your patriotic signs at such an amazing price. I know it's not easy to find patriotic decor, but I have to laugh when I think I have several tubs full that I've bought through the years. It all adds up after 50 years!
    Happy Labor Day!

    1. Sarah,
Thanks so much for stopping by!!Yes, I resigned from my position of 41 years on August 19th. I had my knee replacement surgery 6 months earlier than I planned and since my department closed and I really did not have a job, I resigned and retired!! I am loving it!
      Hugs,
      Deb

  6. Loving the red, white and blue Debbie. So glad you seem to be enjoying your retirement. Well deserved I must say. So happy for you and Joe. I found some patriotic signs last year for 75% off after July 4th and gave them to my daughters. They were thrilled. All that yummy food sounds so good! Bread looking good. I think I can smell it here in Florida! YUM! Hugs and blessings to you. Cindy

  7. Oh my goodness, what a bargain! They are all so cute. I can't wait for next July to see how you decorate with these great bargain finds. I agree with you I love your red porch. It looks great. Color perfect. Have a relaxing Labor Day. You deserve it. You are a true American Worker. Hugs

  8. Those are amazing finds for one dollar! It's rare to find great deals like that, so I can see why you picked them all up :-) And say thank you to your hubby for working the holidays so others could spend time with their family, that was really thoughtful.

  9. I loved seeing your treasures! I usually buy bargains after the holiday for the next year. My secret pal at church sure makes out well that way! With the exorbitant cost of everything (now that you're retired!!), buying this way is the way I choose to do it. 'Round here, I say that I squeeze the nickel so tightly that the Indian and the buffalo are screaming for mercy! Works for me and mine!
