Amish Farmer's Market, a Soccer Game, Good Year Blimp and an Amazing Sunrise!!!!!

 Welcome to Debbie-Dabble Blog!!
I am so happy you decided to stop by!!

I am really enjoying my retirement!!

After working night shift for over 35 years, I never really got a whole weekend off unless it was vacation time....

I had to work every other weekend which was Saturday and Sunday nights but I also had to work on Friday night before my weekend off , meaning that I had to sleep, at least for awhile, after getting home from work on Saturday mornings......

Before Joe retired, as a Letter Carrier for the Post Office, he only got every 6th Saturday off...

So we were not able to do a lot of things on the weekends but this was our life and we accepted it and lived with it....

Now things are different....

Joe was off on Friday from his part time job so we did a bit of shopping ( that is a whole other post!) and we decided to stop in at the mini market, Valley Mart, down the road from us...

Every Friday from June until October, An Amish Farmer sets up in the parking lot of the Valley Mart.....
Joe usually stops down there every Friday to buy tomatoes, corn, peppers and zucchini and an occasional Baked Item.....
I have been meaning to take some photos of this little Farmer's Market for some time now and I finally got the chance to......
Joe is surveying the produce....
You can see that there is quite an array.....
We had the corn on the cob for Labor Day and it was amazing!!
 He now has Fall Gourdes......
 I loved these.....
 And even a few pumpkins!
He does a great business because he is in the middle of the largest shopping district in Luzerne County and a Veteran's Administration Hospital in right across the street.........
He employs a driver who drives him here in a Penske truck loaded to the hilt....
He also carries Baked goods from an Amish Bakery......
Cookies and breads like Banana, Oatmeal, Zucchini Bread.....
Other types of Breads.....
Apple Dumplings....
Pies including Shoo Fly Pie
An Amish product....homemade noodles....
And Jellies and Jams....
He even sells chickens which my neighbor says are delicious!
And churned butter and eggs.....

Here is Joe getting checked out.....
This is what we bought.....
The canteloupe and tomatoes are fantastic that he sells....

And I have been on a Zucchini kick, baking Zucchini Bread.....
Click HERE if you missed that post.....

I loved these gourdes and will be using them in a Fall display....
Saturday was a beautiful day with high temps in the low to mid 70's , partly cloudy and low humidity.....

It was the perfect day to sit outside and take in our Great Niece Carly's Soccer game!!
Carly is 10 years old and plays on the Team that her Dad coached.....
The assistant Coach's took over when my nephew John passed away.....

Carly is #4.....
Joe and I had never been to a soccer game as my boys were not into it.....
You can see it was a beautiful day.....
We had a great time visiting with our niece Renae and watching the game.....
Carly even assisted in a goal......
And her Team won!!
My nephew John would be so proud!!

Her oldest sister, Cortney, who is a senior this year, is the goalie for her high school Girl's Soccer Team.....

When we came home, we were sitting out on the front porch, enjoying the afternoon and this flew over our house!!!
We were looking up at the under belly of the Good Year Blimp!!
It had gotten a bit more cloudy by now......
When it turned, you are able to see the signage on the side.....
It was at a small local airport for an event and was flying around our house on Saturday and Sunday....
Sunday morning started with the most amazing Sun Rise!!!
At 6:30 am, this is what it looked like from our front porch!!!
What a beautiful site it was!!

Sunday was another nice day and we took advantage of that by cleaning the furniture on the front porch, running the sweeper , changing the rug and chair cushions and pillows, cleaning and packing away all the Summer porch and front yard garden things and then decorating the front porch and yard for Fall!!!!!

It is a good thing that our storage shed, where we keep all the out door decorations, is only a 5 minute drive away because Joe kept driving back and forth with Summer and Fall decoration tubs!!

Whew!!

Were we tired after doing all that!!!

Here are a few Sneak Peaks......
My annuals are doing so well, I decided to hang on to them as long as I can......
Once they die out, I will plant Mums in their place.....
I will be doing a post on my Fall/Halloween decorations in the front of our townhouse in the future.....

We finished off the weekend by relaxing on our front porch....

I really enjoy just looking at the amazing view of the sky that we have from our porch.....

We have to walk up 13 steps to get up to the sidewalk that runs the length of our row of 10 townhouses so our porch is higher than street level, giving us an amazing view!

Whether it is watching a Sun Rise, a Sun Set, a Storm or even just cloud formations, I thoroughly enjoy the simple pleasures that Nature provides.......

This is how the clouds looked on Sunday evening......
How can you not love that??????

How did you spend your weekend?????

In a future post, I will be sharing more Dollar Store buys for Fall and Halloween!!!

  3. Debbie you are so lucky to have a farmer's market near by. I too just came back from the dollar store today with bags and bags full of fall decor. They are so cheap and can be used in so many different ways.

  4. Oh I am so glad that you are enjoying retirement Debbie. I bet you just don't know how to act some days! So happy for you. Sometimes in our small community they will set up a little Farmer's market with all the locals. It's pretty neat. Loving all those wonderful veggies in the pictures. Amish baked goods are the best! My oldest granddaughter played soccer for a couple of years. We are in to softball, football and volleyball now. WHEW! Looks like some good dollar store treats you have there. Can't wait to see what all you come up with. Hugs and blessings, Cindy
