A Day Out for a Visit and Shopping!!

 Welcome to Debbie-Dabble Blog!!
I am so happy you decided to stop by!!

Since I have had my knee replacement surgery, I have gone out but I have stuck close to home.....

This past Saturday, Joe and I decided we would go out and make a day of it.....

Our morning started out with a visit  to my Nephew's home in Mountaintop, which is about a 15 minute drive from us.......

My nephew was recently in the hospital and is beginning another round of chemo so Joe and I wanted to show our support so we picked up 2 roasted chickens at Sam's Club......
Macaroni Salad and a dozen of their favorite flavors of bagels at Wegman's so they would not have to worry about dinner......

My nephew is a big Yankees fan so Joe also bought a cute wood Yankee baseball plaque that had an antiqued look for their room down the basement where he has a lot of Sports memorabilia displayed....

Sorry, I forgot to take a picture of that.....

My nephew's home is a fairly new home in a lovely development......

So I thought I would take a few photos to share with you......

This is the TOTALLY AMAZING table that my Great Niece, Cortney, built in wood working class!!!
Yes!!  MY Great Niece, not Nephew!!!!!

Above is a photo of my nephew John and Cortney sitting at this wonderful table in the Kitchen!!!

Just look at this table top!!!
And these are the legs of the table!!!
They had the chairs......
Cortney also made this charming clock.....
And this is what she made last year!!!
My Dad would be so very proud of his Great Grand Daughter.....

I can just hear him saying "That a Girl!" with a tear in his eye!!!

John and his wife Renae have a huge yard and have this beautiful pool.......
Carly, who is 10 years old, took Joe on a walk all around the pool........

We were waiting for him to loose his footing and take an unexpected dip in the pool.....

Renae wanted to show me her Star Gazer planted on the side by the pool......
Stunning, isn't it??????
This is a little fairy garden that they made in a tub......
You can see another fair garden area which was created in the area around a "pavilion" that they had built next to the pool....
This is a cherry tomato plant that Renae said appeared out of nowhere....she did not plant it there.....
This is the stunning fireplace in the "pavilion"
This is their older dog Cody as he is intently looking at something out there.....
You may remember that I have shared a few of Cortney's Prom Pictures in front of this fireplace.....
These are a few photos that were taken when it was first built......
 In the evening......
Like out of a magazine, isn't it????

This is the flower bed to the left of the pavilion......
If you look beyond the slope, you can see that there is a grassy area of their yard with a vegetable garden planted in it......

This is to the right and sort of in the back of the pavilion....
Cortney caught a frog.......
And also a salamander!!
We really enjoyed our visit with my nephew and his family......

AUGUST 7th UPDATE:

My nephew was taken to the hospital later in the day of our visit......

He returned home on Monday under the care of Hospice.....

Our hearts are broken.....But my nephew John is no longer suffering...

This was posted by my niece Renae....

"It is with a heavy heart that I post that Our John has been called home to Our Lord. He was the Best Husband, Father and Friend anyone could have had. He is at peace and is not suffering any more. Please pray for strength for our girls."

I am happy to say that I got to say Good-Bye to him as my niece Renae held the phone to his ear around midnight last night.

He took a deep breath after I finished talking so we feel that he heard me......

Please keep my nephew's family in your prayers......

When we left their house, we took a ride up past the area where Joe grew up and ended up in Hazleton, Pa....

The is a nice little Mall there that is called the Laurel Mall and instead of falling prey to the fate of many other malls, it is pretty much filled with interesting stores with very little empty store fronts.....

The main anchor store is a Pa. based department store called Boscov's.......
There is a Boscov's in the city of Wilkes Barre which is close to where I live but it is in the city and is very old and not in good shape.....

I would rather drive the 20 -25 minutes it takes on Interstate 81 to come to this one which is 2 stories, newly remodeled and has a bigger selection of merchandise.....

We had a 15% off coupon that could be used for the entire day of shopping......

They were just starting to put out their Fall and Halloween merchandise......

I just had to share this black Halloween Tree!!!!
I have to say that I was able to shop , quite extensively in Boscov's, and then walk through the rest of the mall and into several other stores without much pain and difficulty!!!

This is the first time I had done something like this since my Knee Replacement surgery and I have to say that it was wonderful being able to do so especially since I have not been able to walk too far of a distance for the past 6+ years!!!

Here is our loot from our shopping experience!!
I have a small George Foreman grill and Joe thought that I needed a larger one for when the kids come over....
Our yard is too small for an outdoor gas grill and after the one that we had caught fire once and almost burned the house down, I have elected to forego an outdoor gas grill......

The George Foreman was on sale for $50 + tax......

The rest of this stuff only cost us $126!!!
We were able to use the 15 % off coupon for everything......

These outdoor chair cushions and pillows were on clearance.....
As was this lantern which was originally $14.99, marked down to $5.99 with an additional 15% off!!
On the far left is a vinyl tablecloth that I thought would be good to use on the Dining Room table when the kids come over for pizza.......
It was $2.99 and the 2 other tablecloths were marked down 70% off the original price plus the 15% off!!

Joe and I do not buy anything for each other anymore but since his birthday is coming up, he bought new bedroom slippers for the Winter.......
And a new wallet with more slots because he said he needed more now that he has a Medicare and a Prescription supplement card!!!

He also bought 3 pairs of pants for work........
And I picked up 3 tee shirts for our oldest son as they were only $3.99 each plus that 15% off!!!
In a nice little Co Op store that sold Country items and wood furniture, I bought these.......
Both were only $7.95 each!!

We had a really nice day out and I hope you enjoyed seeing a bit of my nephew's house and yard .....

In my next post, I will be sharing how I updated the front porch a bit with those new cushions and a new rug and how my annuals are doing so far this Summer.......
So I hope you will stop by to visit again soon!!

Thanks to those who took the time out of their busy day to spend a little bit of time with me!!

  1. Hello again, I hope your nephew is doing better than the last time we talked. Oh my his home is beautiful, and the table is gorgeous. What a talented young lady. Your shopping trip sounds like a fun time. It is always good to get out and do some shopping. BTW, in the last post you showed some incredible deals you got at that time. You are the Queen at finding bargens! You go girl!. Plus one more thing, I am going to look for the adorable sunflower sign you got at Michael's if I can't find one, I may have to make a 3000 mile trip across the US to PA. so I can get one like yours. It would go perfect in my kitchen. Just sayin! I hope you have an enjoyable week. And most of all I pray your nephew can get feeling better. Hugs,
