Fun and Food at the Festival, 2018

  Welcome!!!

I don't usually do a post where I share pictures of myself since I do not like having my photo taken......

I am definitely not a "Selfie" person.....

But I did want to share the good time Joe and I had with friends at our Parish Festival this past weekend......

But first, I want to Thank Kathryn, over at The Dedicated House, for featuring my post,
What I Bought and What I Did With It, from the last Make It Pretty Monday Party!!
Thanks so much, Kathryn!!

Please stop by and link up to this lovely party!!!

Our church held it's Annual 3 Day Parish Festival last weekend........
I worked nights on Friday night so we did not attend the first night......

But we did attend on Saturday and Sunday evenings........

All the following photos of Joe and I and some of our friends were taken by our good friend, Barb Nole......

On Saturday evening, we hung out with our friend's Barb Nole and Carol Fisher........
This is my new profile photo.......
Barb and Carol staff the Gift Card Showcase Booth at our Festival......
This booth is the brain child of Carol Fisher and is a major money maker with people taking chances on winning a Gift Card valued at $25 each!!!

Carol and Barb uses Joe's Megaphone to call people over to the booth and then sounds off the siren on it when someone wins!!!!   It is hysterical!!!
Donations of Gift Cards are asked for and Carol holds a yard sale yearly to fund the purchase of gift cards for the booth........

Joe and I returned to our "Roots" and enjoyed playing Bingo in our air conditioned church hall......
Did I ever mention that Joe and I met at a Bingo????????

It was a Bingo run by a local Hose Company that paid out $25 a game and had jack pots of $500 and $1000!!!

Joe was a caller and I was a checker.....
I paid for my Nursing School Education by working there as my parent's could not afford to do so......

We started dating in 1975, were engaged in 1976, married in 1978 and will be married for 40 years on August 12th.......

I won $12.50 then Joe won $15.00 and then $8.00 playing Bingo that night!!

LOL!!!

There was plenty of ethnic food at our Festival including an Eastern European dish......

Potato Pancakes!!!
They were so good!!!

On Sunday evening, we again hung out with our friends.......
Joe realized that he definitely needed a hair cut after seeing these pictures and went and got his hair cut yesterday!!

When I first met Joe, his hair was down to his shoulders!!!

Okay, we laughed at this photo because we thought Joe looked like a Byer's Choice Caroler with his mouth open like that!!!!!

LOL!!
Here we are with Carol Fisher, me, Joe and Rosemary Grebeck........
When I ran our church Craft Fair, Rosemary was my Co Chairperson.......

Now she runs it with the help of a few other parishioners and she is also in charge of our parish Designer Purse Bingo which is a huge money maker for our Parish!!
 We had some good laughs.....
Joe tried and tried to win a Gift Card but to no avail.......

We did donate 2 $25 Visa Gift Cards to the booth when Joe won money on a Lottery ticket in the Spring.......

We believe in sharing the wealth when Joe wins.......

 Carol and Barb......
 Barb and me......
This Gift Card booth made a total over the 3 days of the Festival of $3500!!!

So if you are looking for something to make money at a Festival or a Bazaar, a Gift Card Booth will bring in a lot of money for your organization!!!

Another huge money maker is the Theme Basket Raffle......

In a previous post, I shared the basket I donated titled "Create a Fairy Garden"
Above is what I included in my basket but I forgot to take a picture of the finished basket......

I was also asked to make up a basket for a parishioner who donated money towards one and this is what I came up with.......
I called it Summer Outdoor Entertaining........

I always think ahead so I went to Big Lot's and bought a pink and yellow set of outdoor dishes that was on Clearance at 50% off , packed them away and will use them for my basket for next year's Festival!!

We had a wonderful time at the Festival and talked and spent time with many of our friends who we consider Family!!

After all, they say "Friends are the Family You Choose for Yourself"!!!
We also enjoyed white and red pizza at the Festival.......
And another Eastern European dish, called Haluski or cabbage and noodles.......
We also had Pierogies.........

I forgot to get a photo but they tasted so good that I decided to look for a recipe ......

I found Lazy Lady's Pierogie, which is perfect for me as I have no time to make actual Pierogies and I do HATE to cook!!!

Here is the recipe:

1 box of Lasagna, cooked
3 packs of Instant Mashed Potatoes
1 8oz. package of Shredded Cheddar Cheese
1 large onion, diced and sauteed in butter
3 sticks of butter

I used these Potatoes .......
Mix the Potatoes ( already cooked), Cheese and part of the Butter and Onions

Layer lasagna first then potato mixture, pour some of the butter and onions over the potato mixture and then the lasagna again.

End with a layer of lasagna, sprinkle some of the cheese over the lasagna along with some butter and onions.

Bake for 30 minutes, covered at 350 degrees...... Use middle rack in oven

And this is how it came out!!
Tastes just like pierogies and it very EASY to make!!!!!

In my next post, I will be sharing the area in our Living Room by the stairs and my Butterfly tree......
So I hope you will be back to visit again soon.......

And thanks to those who took the time out of their busy day to spend a little bit of time with me!!

If you do not have a blog, PLEASE  give me some way to reply to your comment, maybe by including your email in your comment.  If I can not find a way to reach you, I will reply on the post where you commented so please check back......

  2. I felt a little uncomfortable reading the comment above and wonder why some people feel it necessary to be so cruel. That said it looked like a really fun event you attended. Its always good to meet up with friends. The food looked delicious and many thanks for the fund raising tips.

    1. Thanks so much for stopping by!! I deleted the comment that you spoke of in your comment. I actually laughed about it because I feel that whoever wrote that must have a sad little life and has nothing better to do and I feel sorry for such sad little people!! So don't worry about me!! I have very thick skin and it did not bother me at all!!
      Hugs,
      Deb

  3. Ahhh there's that naughty smile again. I think it's lovely that you're sharing picture of yourself Debbie, although I understand completely why you don't normally do it. For me it's far easier being behind the camera than in front of it. It looks like you both had a blast at the festival too. I've never heard of a Pierogie before but it looks and sounds delicious and the recipe doesn't look too difficult to make either. We'll have to give it a try some time soon. Anything with potato and cheese is always a winner in our house. Hope you have a wonderful week, stay safe xoxoxox

  4. Debbie, you're so pretty! And I love the yellow top you're wearing in some of those photos. Looks like you and Joe had a great time, and the couple that after 40 years who still get along and enjoys each other company as you two clearly do, well, they are blessed! The pierogie receipe sounds very interesting...Carl always says that he doesn't like pierogies, but when he has them (at a restaurant), he says he DOES like them. LOL! And HE'S the one who is Polish!

  10. I love the fairy garden basket AND the summer outdoor entertaining basket. How fun! And that recipe looks delicious. I also love that you posted your picture. :) As someone who has made photos her business, I have to say that even when people don't like pictures of themselves, pictures capture good memories and good friends, so they're really good for the heart. :) I'm glad you took them anyway.

  12. I'm waving at your smiling face. Fun post---I loved going to all the ethnic Fests we had in our home town. My dad would by tickets to anything from anybody through the Fishmarket...and we would go---pancakes or dolmades, or baklava, or Torsk. We had a Kringle Fest ...too! And your food looks, ribsticking-nummy! I think my Lithuanian grandmother made the Haluski, or some form of it, in a big roaster.

  13. Awe, happy 40th anniversary! You both look so cute and happy. I also married in 1978 but unfortunately we couldn't make it work so I'm so happy to see your success story and it made me grin ear-to-ear. Have a beautiful day tomorrow!

  14. I really enjoyed seeing you and your husband in this blog post! It looks like you all had a great time and I love seeing what you included for the fairy garden. I'm still thinking about making one for the deck at our condo. Maybe next summer! BTW, Happy 40th Anniversary! We will celebrate the big 50 at the end of this month. Can't believe how fast the time went.

  15. Debby, I am so glad that you decided to share photos of yourself. You look cute, girl!! Sounds like such a fun event. I loved seeing the haluski. We grew up with our making that dish, and my sisters and I still make it. We didn't know how it was spelled. I always write holuska. Our dad was from Czech heritage and taught mom how to make it. He passed away when I was only 9 months old. Ours is slightly different. It is cabbage and potato dumplings. Thanks for sharing with SYC.
    hugs,
    Jann

  17. What a sweet time you had this weekend with your hubby and friends, Debbie!!! Love the basket you made and pierogies are BIG out here in Texas, too. :)' I've eaten a few now when we swing by Buc-Ees gas station {really a shopping mecca destination for kitchenware and awesome leather purses! with a hundred gas pumps ~ kinda a Texas icon}. They are good!

Oh, I rarely if ever correct a person's spelling but this one I gave me a good laugh: your recipe where the the "onion: died and sauteed in butter." Was it supposed to be dried? ;) Yes, you do feel like you've died and gone to food heaven when you've had a yummy pierogie. ;D Stopping over from Sweet Inspiration where you were featured!!! Congrats!!!

Happily sharing your pierogie recipe. I'm not really a cook, either, but I do like to eat.
    Have a great week,
    Barb :)
