I am a Victorian Soul, who lives in a small townhouse that was built in the mid 1970's, not a huge Mega Mansion!! I just recently lost my Hubby Joe, who was a Retired Letter Carrier. I worked night shift as an RN on a Hospital based Rehabilitation( Physical Medicine) Unit for 37 years before I had Knee Replacement Surgery and officially Retired in 2019 after 41 years working in Direct Patient Care ... I am so glad that we retired at 62 years of age and got to spend that time together before he passed....I still do love Retirement!!!!

Patriotic Memorial Day Front Porch and Yard, 2021

 Welcome to Debbie-Dabble Blog!!

I am so happy you decided to stop by!!

Today, I will be sharing how I decorated the Front Porch and Yard for Memorial Day.....

But first, I want to share a few pictures of the Sky that I took the other evening when rain and thunder storms were popping up.....

We got about a half inch of rain after the storms....

Yesterday, was a nice cool day around 70 degrees.....

I took advantage of the nice day and decorated the front of the house for Memorial Day as more rain was predicted for Friday into Saturday and more rain predicted for Sunday.....

Memorial Day is a Remembrance of those in the Military that gave the Ultimate Sacrifice for this Country.......

It is NOT a Holiday to honor ALL Veteran's ........

That is Veteran's Day or Armistice Day, which honors ALL Veterans, both Living and Deceased....

Nor is it a Holiday to honor all those in our families who have passed away......

Memorial Day was set aside to ONLY remember the Fallen Soldiers of War.....

It is a Remembrance and a solemn Holiday and was never intended to be a Celebration......

The time to Celebrate is on the 4th of July, the Birthday of our Country.....

Most Americans have forgotten the difference between the 2 Holidays.....

So when you do "celebrate" Memorial Day, please remember what this day was truly set aside for.......

In my last post, I shared my Fairy/Gnome Gardens in the Patio and Back Yard.....

Click HERE if you missed that post.....

I just planted the flowers in the front of our house last week so they really have not gotten much bigger......

I added 2 American flags to this pot.....

I changed the Summer wreath on the front door.....

I decided to freshen up this Patriotic wreath that I made a few years ago by adding some yellow flowers from my stash......

There is a metal star in the center.....

Hanging to the right side of the Front Door.....

I changed out the Summer things that hang on the wall from the weeping mortar.....

I made the basket hanging below the light fixture....

In the corner of the Front Porch.....

I hung Patriotic banners from the railing.....

I added Patriotic Star stakes to these 2 pots.....

 More flags......

The flower bed under the Living Room window......

Patriotic mini flags......

A Patriotic Mail Box cover.....

 The Park Bench.....

A bow made from Patriotic ribbon tied to the lantern and a Patriotic rocket stake in the flower pot....

More flags.......

By just changing out a few things, I changed the look of the Front Porch from this....

To this.....

While taking pictures of the front, I caught this Robin waiting to fly into the nest inside the Rhododendron....

And this little chipmunk on the porch next door to me.....

 With his mouth full.....

I also hung some Patriotic mini flags in the back yard......

And a few Patriotic solar lights......

I decided to send Joe to Dollar Tree for a few more Patriotic decorations that I saw on their web site, using money I was gifted for Mother's Day....

Love these signs.....

And garden stakes......

 This pinwheel......

And even though I told him to buy one of these, he bought 3......

I used 2 of them here.....

And used one of the garden stakes here......

Joe received this through the mail for donating to one of the veteran's groups....

 A nice little throw......

I needed new rugs for the foyer area as the backing was disintegrating on the ones I had after this Winter....

Joe bought 2 of these at Big Lot's for Buy One, get One at Half Price and he had a $10 off $40 coupon.....

2 of them cost only $8.....

I still have more of the Patriotic decorations in the Living Room to share but I am waiting until I get my new replacement camera.........

It supposedly was mailed out on Friday........

No hurry as I keep up my Patriotic decorations until after July 4th.....

In my next post, I will be sharing the flowers I planted in the back yard.....

  1. Your yard looks wonderful I have a number of 9x12 inch flags on poles I put along the borders of my front flower beds. We had terrific storms yesterday with high winds and inches of rain. All my flags were down this morning, but we put them back up with a rubber hammer. Along our lake, a festival was crushed with 20 foot waves and there was lots of damage. People had to be evacuated from resorts. Even Cedar Point amusement park closed. I have not heard anyone was hurt, thank goodness.

On September 9, 1999, a boy in his senior year of high school signed up to be a marine. He left that summer and by fall was stationed overseas. He was killed in action just months after graduating. I stood along the highway that lead to the cemetery that fall while his high school football teammates carried him to his resting place. I always remember and pray for Jason on Memorial Day now.

  2. I enjoyed seeing your patriotic decorations! I don't have mine quite finished yet this year.... But here are some of what I have been working on.... https://www.jumprope.com/g/patriotic-inspirational-diy-projects-for-you-to-try/80sZHP2m

I have a lot of patriotic decor---2nd to Christmas, I suppose. Do you really just hang your outside decorations on the mortar? Nothing else to hold them there?..... Wow!

  4. How lovely! I especially like the wreath. The pops of color from the yellow flowers really highlight the red, white, and blue of the rest of it.
    Thanks for sharing!

  7. Love your festive front porch! It's a shame that many don't understand the difference between Memorial and Veteran's Day:(
