I am a Victorian Soul, live in a small townhouse that was built in the mid 1970's, not a huge Mega Mansion, with my Hubby Joe, who is a Retired Letter Carrier. I worked night shift as an RN on a Hospital based Rehabilitation( Physical Medicine) Unit for 37 years before I had Knee Replacement Surgery and officially Retired in 2019 after 41 years working in Direct Patient Care ... Summer Kitchen, Part 3, 2020

Happy August!!!!!
 I pray August is a better month, weather wise!!!

Today, I will finally be completing a series of posts that I started in the beginning of the Summer, sharing how my Kitchen looks in the Summer, devoid of any Holiday decorations.....

A few personal notes.....

Nothing here is really new since my last post except that we have now had the Hottest July on record here in NEPA.......
  With 3 heat waves and 16 days over 90 which also broke records here.....
The weather finally seems to have changed with a decrease in humidity.....

Yesterday was actually really quite pleasant with a nice breeze which enabled me to have a Carpe Diem day!!!

 YES!!!

 I seized the day and spent several hours on the front porch in the shade with my feet up reading a book!!!
We are supposed to be getting some much needed rain tomorrow and then maybe on Tuesday when remnants of an east coast Hurricane moves through the area......

 I hope so because we really need rain!!

Today, I will be sharing the 3rd area of the Kitchen......

The Counter Bar area.....
When we first moved in to our townhouse, there was nothing on this wall......

I had an Ice Cream Parlor like table and set of chairs here but after I had my sons and we needed to have dinner in the Dining Room, I had a friend of ours build this counter bar for me as I also needed somewhere to put the microwave due to having very little counter space.....

In the beginning of the Summer, I had a nice quilted floral runner on the counter.....
 Last week, since it was so hot and humid and I did not even attempt to venture outside, I gave the Kitchen a deep cleaning.......

I usually dust this shelf above the door way and counter bar, using Swifter dusters and about once every month or two, I take everything down, wipe it down with a rag and a bucket of water and ammonia along with the shelf and put everything back.....

This is where I display my collection of vintage and vintage looking Kitchen wares.....
On the left side wall......
The Tru Age Beer sign was my Dad's.....
The vintage aqua colored mason jars were my neighbor Elly's along with a lot of other things on this shelf.....
I did not want to be able to see into the Dining Room so I created a "Window" in the pass through between the Kitchen and Dining Room.....
I hung this Galley sign that I bought any years ago at a "Yard Sale" at Red Lobster in ther parking lot when they were remodeling the restaurant here......

I hung two garlands here also....... A floral one and a grain sack one that I tucked some faux cotton  balls into that I bought on Clearance in Micheal's....
The right side of the wall.....
Last week, I changed the quilted runner on the counter bar......
To this red and gold floral runner......
With everything moved back on to the counter bar.....
The stained glass lamp also belonged to my neighbor, Elly......
On the pass through......
A red mercury glass candle holder with a yellow vintage fiesta ware tea cup and saucer......
Same on this side along with vintage mason jars filled with candy and cough drops.....
Also on the counter bar are a red napkin holder, spoon rest, jar candle holder and condiment holder which were bought at a yard sale.....
 On the left side of the Counter Bar....
This is my vintage Laundry display.....
The vintage washboard......
Mason jar filled with handmade clothes pins made by my MIL's neighbor's husband.....
Vintage Clorox and iron all belonged to my neighbor Elly.....

The Starch canister was bought at The Christmas Tree Shop and the crock was bought at a Flea Market!!
When I had the counter bar built, I wanted a place for the microwave and to store some of my larger cooking appliances.....
I did have a red microwave that bit the dust last Summer and this one was half the price of what another red one would have cost so we went with this black one....
I curtain that I like to change for the different Seasons hides where my mixer, food processor and other kitchen wares are stored.....

On the other side are shelves that house my George Foreman grill which I constantly use and my Hot Dog Griller!!
On the side of the griller are all our Take Out Menus ( YES, we still use those).....
And on rollers is a crate that holds extra bottles of Joe's soda.....
I bought the red stool at a yard sale and decoupaged pieces of the wall paper border on to the seat!

On the right side of the counter bar.....
A vintage roller pin and a chalkboard.....
A vintage looking tin sign......
A vintage apron and the Rooster mold that hung in my parent's Kitchen.....
A galvanized tin resting in a crock.......
And this is how this area will look until I start to decorate the Kitchen for Fall after Labor Day.....
Oh....I forgot one thing.......

I changed this valance that I made from a tablecloth .......
And hung this one that I made from a vintage embroidered table topper.....
In my next post, I will be sharing a few other changes that I made in the Kitchen when I gave it a deep cleaning......

    Your book caught my eye! I am a huge Sue Grafton fan. My mother introduced me to the "Mystery Guild" in the 1980's, a offshoot of the book club by mail Literary Guild. I believe at the time you could purchase hardcover books for around $5.99 and if you bought three at a time, free shipping. The books were automatically sent in groups of two each month, so you had to be sure to send the slip back if you did not want to receive them. As a full time stay home mom of 5 little ones, the books were my escape and an important part of my monthly budget. A is for Alibi was one of my first purchases and I own and reread the entire series.

    It sounds a lot like our weather here other than we have had plenty of rain in fact we have had one of the highest amounts of rain. Today we actually had temps in the 70's, maybe it will be coming your way!

    Love the table topper turned valence. Very good idea and pretty with all that lace on the edge. I believe in a touch of read in every room and I especially love red in the kitchen. My mom always had lots of red in the kitchen. Today the temps were lower felt a lot better with breeze all day. Now it's raining off and on and I guess the tomatoes will split. They had stayed green and I thought they would never turn but when the temps lowered, they started ripening. Can ya believe August? My gosh, the year is flying by.

    I always love your exuberant reds in your kitchen. And you have so many interesting things, I confess I have done NO decorating this year...locked in on our lot, we have been working on the outside and basement. And even getting to seasonal decor is impossible. It's fun to see yours, though, Sandi form AAHome
