I am a Victorian Soul, who lives in a small townhouse that was built in the mid 1970's, not a huge Mega Mansion!! I just recently lost my Hubby Joe, who was a Retired Letter Carrier. I worked night shift as an RN on a Hospital based Rehabilitation( Physical Medicine) Unit for 37 years before I had Knee Replacement Surgery and officially Retired in 2019 after 41 years working in Direct Patient Care ... I am so glad that we retired at 62 years of age and got to spend that time together before he passed....I still do love Retirement!!!!

I DABBLE IN A BIT OF THIS AND THAT!!!!

Summer Kitchen, Part 1, 2018

 Welcome!!

It has been quite a Summer!!

Torrential rain, record breaking rain here in NEPA........
 Heat and humidity........

Not one but several Heat waves of 90 degree + temps.....
Even a Tornado nearly missed my house!!!!!
The X on the above photo shows our house and how close the path of the Tornado was......

Not only has my Garden suffered but my Health has too!

I do not do well in the Summer because of heat sensitivity caused by my auto immune disease and side effects from blood pressure medications that I take.....

So I am really looking forward to Fall and hopefully cooler temps.......And no humidity!!

Today, I am going to start with Part 1 of a Series of posts sharing how my Kitchen looks in Summer.....

In other words, without any Seasonal or Holiday decorations!!!!

But first, I want to Thank Michelle, over at A Crafty Mix, for featuring my post, Fun and Food at the Festival, from last week's Sweet Inspiration Link Party!!
Thanks so much, Michelle!!

I also want to Thank Karren, over at O My Heartsie Girl, for featuring my post, Late Summer Butterfly Tree, from last week's Friday Feature Linky Party!!
Thanks so much, Karren!!!

Please stop by and link up to these great parties!!

I know I have shared my Kitchen many times before but I have made a few changes here and there for this Summer........
And I really am at a loss for something to post right now......

4 years ago, we remodeled our Kitchen by painting the cabinets white, painting the Kitchen red and pale yellow, putting up a new border, having new countertops, sink, light fixture and flooring installed.......

I was finally happy with my Kitchen because I felt that I finally had the Country Victorian Kitchen that I always wanted!!

In this post, I am going to share the top half of this wall in the Kitchen......
Yes, as a Victorian soul I subscribe to the Victorian Philosophy of " More is More"!!

And PLEASE DO NOT ASK ME HOW DO I CLEAN because my answer always is " Who cleans?"

Okay, we will start over on the left side of the wall by the hallway from the Living Room and the Powder Room........
I have collected many vintage and vintage styled Kitchen items over the years.......
There are shelves on each side of the wall which are very special to me because my Dad made them for me using scrap lumber that he pulled out of one of his neighbor's trash cans!!!
Now you see where I get it from, don't you??????

I love the border that I ordered for the Kitchen on EBAY because of the colors and the roses.....
And I hear borders and wallpaper are coming back into style!!

I changed out the copper mold that I used to have hanging here on the wall for a smaller one......
Vintage cannister set and a vintage jar filled with faux pastries.......
A vintage Heinz ketchup bottle in the background......
The scale is a flea market find......
And even though this meat grinder was one of my MIL's neighbors, it is just like the one that my parent's had and used to make keilbasi and grind the nuts for nut roll, only smaller.....
One of my nephew's have my parent's grinder as it was too larger to fit on this shelf.......

I used to love to turn the handle of the grinder and hold the casing over a nozzle to make kielbasi with my Dad!!

Over on a hook to the left of the shelf, hangs a vintage apron and one of my Mother's sifters......
Below the shelf is an antique style phone, that would still work if I still had a land line in the house, that was once my dear neighbor Elly's......
The Fresh Apples sign was also my neighbor Elly's......
It is hard to read this because it is a mirror but this shows What a Housewife is Worth apparently back in the 1800's......
I hung a vintage enamelware lid as a magnetic board....
On the side of the hutch.....
Vintage pot holders......
A Kitchen Calendar.......
Now let's take a look at the Hutch that I put together many years ago........
I bought the top half which was a shelf unit from a bedroom set that I paid $5.00 for and married it to a desk that I paid $10 for!!
On the top of the Hutch......
The 2 pictures on the wall are Home Interiors products.......
No, the black clock does not work but I like how it looks but the Apple Clock does work......
All vintage items.......
The red doilies and Sweet Rolls sign were bought in Michael's.......
The shelves in the top half of the Hutch.....
The top shelf.......
A mixture of vintage and new items........
You will see that I have a lot of hens and roosters in the Kitchen.....
         The bottom shelf.........
I will be sharing the desk area of the Hutch in my next post.......

Let's look at the right side of the wall.......
The other shelf that my Dad built......
Again, I changed out a larger copper mold for a smaller one.......
Copper is popular again but it has been in my Kitchen for many years.......

A green yellow ware bowl filled with wooden apples.......
I bought the bowl at a flea market and is valued at over $200 which is why it is high up on a shelf!!!

I have a Mr. Peanut Man displayed because Planter's Peanuts was founded in Wilkes Barre where I live!!!
This is from Wikipedia.....

'Planters was founded by Italian immigrant Amedeo Obici in Wilkes-Barre, Pennsylvania. ... Two years later, the firm was incorporated as Planters Nut and Chocolate Company. By 1913, Obici had moved to Suffolk, Virginia, the peanut capital of the world, and opened Planters' first mass production plant and facility there."

Mr. Peanut Man is sitting on a Roasted Nuts tin.......
Hanging on a hook to the right of the shelf is another hook with another vintage apron and sifter......
I also hung a cinnamon smelling broom from the hook.....

Below the shelf is a dry erase bulletin board........
So that is the top half of this wall in the Kitchen.......
In my next post, I will be sharing the bottom half of this wall.......
Including the desk area of the Hutch..........
So I hope you will be back to visit again soon.......

I also want to apologize for being a bit late on my return visits to those who are kind enough to comment on my posts....

I will be visiting soon.......

Thanks to those who took the time out of their busy day to spend a little bit of time with me!!

If you do not have a blog, PLEASE  give me some way to reply to your comment, maybe by including your email in your comment.  If I can not find a way to reach you, I will reply on the post where you commented so please check back......

  3. I always enjoy seeing your kitchen! It's so interesting to know that Planters was founded in your area......thanks for sharing that bit of history! Portales is about 20 miles south of us and they grow lots of peanuts in that area. I know one of the growers is Hampton Farms and there's a couple more that I can't think of their name. Have a wonderful week end....hugs...

  5. You have so many neat ideas..like using an old lid as a magnetic board, but especially how you painted the desk/shelf unit! Those old canister sets are gorgeous sitting on your father's shelves.
Take care and hopefully you'll feel better soon. ☺

  6. Debbie, you have so many wonderful pieces of Vintage---everything. I love the red and white, brings me back to my childhood and my mom's red*white kitchens. Eventually she went to yellow and brown and well, not as cheery for sure. And, I'm done with hot temps, too.

  7. It's so fun! I could just sit in there and look at all your goodies and enjoy! My favorite is that yellow rose pitcher! Thanks for sharing, the summer is killing me too! Can't wait for cooler weather!

  8. I love your answer "Who Cleans anyway" :D But seeing all the pics of your collection of treasures, there's not a spec of dust anywhere, and by moving things around like you always do, each treasure gets handled with love and so much thought, so they always look wonderful together. Hope you have a happy week and that it's not to hot
