Thanks so much, Linda!!

Back to my Faux Fire Place Transformation!!

I have had this piece of furniture for about 8 years now, of which it was in storage for about 2 years.
It was my MIL's neighbor's, who was moving at the time and was going to throw it out!

I can't stand to see things just tossed to the curb and when I looked at it, I envisioned a Fire Place !!

Having nowhere to put it when we "acquired' it, it went into our storage shed,  just waiting ........

My son Jim moved out 6 years ago and I decided to make his room into a Guest Room......
Finally, I had room for a Faux Fire Place!!

I  took off the middle doors, removed the shelves, painted the "firebox" black, freshened up the wood stain and gold leafed the embellishments on the doors.

I then bought a 3 foot unfinished shelf, added 3 peel and stick floor tiles to it to create the "hearth" and placed it on the floor in front of the piece.

And this is how it looked for 6 years.........
Decorated for Christmas in my  "Guest Room" last year!!
This Summer, we gave the single bed in the Guest Room to a neighbor and bought a new recliner.

We have lived in this house for almost 38 years and NEVER had a Guest stay over so I felt I could make more use of this room by turning it into a Sitting Room!!

I will be revealing my new Sitting Room soon!!!

As part of the transformation into a Sitting Room from a Guest Room, I have been painting and painting!!!!

Painting several pieces of furniture that were of different finishes and in different condition was the best way to make all the pieces look a bit more uniform......

The last piece that I wanted to paint was my faux Fire Place.........
Changing it from this.......

To this.......
Let me start at the beginning.......

First, I had to empty everything out......
This piece provides me a lot of storage for all my magazines and some photo albums....
I think it was originally a Bar of some sort......

I took the doors off and then applied 2 coats of Kilz, which is a Primer and Sealer all rolled up into one!!
You can see the difference it made already!!
I left the "Fire Box" black......
Here's a door painted.....
I changed out the knobs for ones that I already had ......
These knobs with pink roses painted on them were once in the Powder Room but I replaced them when we remodeled that room......
I glued on 2 small ones on the bottom of this door to use to hang a banner, etc. from them........
I then wanted to dress up the piece a bit and make it a bit more ornate and have it look more like a Fire Place.......

I went to Lowe's and found these on Clearance!!
These were marked down to $1.06 a piece!!
I painted them and added them to the top of each door using E 6000 glue!!
I definitely think they glammed it up a bit, don't you??????
And these were $1.32 on clearance.......
So I painted them and glued them on here......

Looks good together with the other pieces..........
But I felt it needed  a bit more.......

I had bought these brackets which were part of a shelf set at a yard sale for $1.00 several years ago......

I will do something else with the shelf ......

I painted the brackets and glued them here.......
Totally liking this look!!
In the mean time, I had painted the floor of the "Fire Box" white and found one more piece in our storage room that I wanted to add.......
I bought this molding many years ago also on clearance in Lowes, I had Joe cut it and I then painted it and glued it here......
I still had one more thing to do and that was to paint the edges around the "hearth" white........
Now I was finally finished!!!!
And here is my transformed Faux Fire Place!!!
The mirror that is in the "Fire Box' is something Joe pulled out one of our the trash dumpsters for our Court!!!!
It fits perfectly in there!!
The lamp was bought for $1.00 at the Christmas Tree Shop on Clearance many years ago and the colored dragon fly lights are from Dollar Tree!
What a difference, huh?????
From this, when I first saw it.......
To this for the last 6 years....
And finally to this!!
I did this in 3 days when it was 90 degrees out in an upstairs room with no air conditioning and with 2 tower fans blowing on me!

It darn near killed me but I am so happy with the final result!!

In my next post, I will share my Craft Room for the annual Where Bloggers Create Party!!
