I am a Victorian Soul, who lives in a small townhouse that was built in the mid 1970's, not a huge Mega Mansion!! I just recently lost my Hubby Joe, who was a Retired Letter Carrier. I worked night shift as an RN on a Hospital based Rehabilitation( Physical Medicine) Unit for 37 years before I had Knee Replacement Surgery and officially Retired in 2019 after 41 years working in Direct Patient Care ... I am so glad that we retired at 62 years of age and got to spend that time together before he passed....I still do love Retirement!!!!

But first Thanks to Laurie, over at Ridge Haven Homestead, for choosing my post, Hens, Roosters and a Bit of Strawberries in the Kitchen,  as one of her features from last week's Sunday Sunshine Blog Hop!!!

 Thanks so much, Laurie!!

And now for a few Personal Notes...

 Food of the Week

On Sunday, I made some meat sauce and pasta....

Easy peasy.....

Also on Sunday, since I was feeling really good despite having Co Vid, I cleaned the entire back Patio as it was covered with pollen that is blowing off the trees in back of our yard....

I moved everything out, swept the patio.....

Wiped everything down with Pine Sol in water.....

It seems to work......

I washed everything down on the walls....

And moved everything back in.....

Straightened up the potting stand area.....

Maybe now my sinuses won't be blocked when I am outside even though our pollen counts have been high as we have not had any rain lately.....

After I finished doing all this work,  I decided to sit on the front porch and read a bit.....

And watch Joe work for a change....

The one azalea we cut way back last year grew back with a vengeance....

It was nice watching him do some work for a change....

It was a beautiful day with a breeze and low humidity....

Co Vid Update:

I am into Day 10 and I am feeling fine with most of the nasal stuffiness I had now gone...

Joe is now able to go out but wear a mask as per CDC regulations....

Jim and Danielle are back to work and doing well....

Joey is still in Isolation but coming here to eat again as we all had it and is feeling fine except for the nasal stuffiness...

He will work from home for the rest of the week and go back to work in person next week.....

So Thank Goodness, we had the best case scenario, having mild symptoms....

And I am fully aware that we may not be so lucky next time because this is not over and Co Vid is here to stay as viruses do not go away....

I always say that in my 40's, when all my multiple Medical issues started to rear their ugly heads, I knew that my days of traveling for any distance were over....

So I decided that since I loved the Victorian Era so much that I would turn my 1970's built townhouse into the Victorian Bed and Breakfast that I would love to stay at if I was able to continue to travel....

Every Bed and Breakfast seems to have a cozy room where guests can go and choose a book from bookcases filled a variety of books....

They can then sit and relax in a comfy chair, maybe by a fire place and do a bit of reading...

Several years ago, I decided to change what used to be my son Jim's bedroom from a Guest Room into a Sitting Room because I realized that in 40 years, we never had a guest stay over........

I decided to decorate this room in a Garden Theme and use several book cases for all my Decorating and Gardening books and books that I amassed with the intention of reading when I retired....

A few weeks ago, I shared how I decorated my faux fire place in the Sitting Room as an indoor Fairy Garden....

I followed that post with another post sharing this corner of the Sitting Room and the Garden Tea Table that I set up.....

In my last post, I shared my Tea Cup Collection and a few tea pots in the Sitting Room.....

And that brings me to my final post about my upstairs Sitting Room decorated in a Garden Theme for the Summer as past of my Bed and Breakfast Series.....

This room was my son Jim's bedroom and originally, when he moved out, I turned it into a Guest Room, keeping his single bed....

After a few years, I realized that in 40+ years of marriage, we never had a guest stay overnight or would we ever as everyone we know is local and as Joe says, "There is a Hotel up at the top of our hill, so they can always stay there"!!!

That was when I decided to get rid of the single bed and buy a rocker/recliner for myself.....

Not long after, the Pandemic started and our son, Joey, came to live with us for 2 months until things died down a bit.....

He slept on the sofa downstairs with use of the ottoman like I did so many times in the past after several of my surgeries and then would come up and use the recliner to sleep as Joe and I got up much earlier than Joey did during those times....

So it all did work out and I sleep at times in the recliner as I do better sitting up rather than laying flat especially when my IBS is acting up......

For years before I retired , I was collecting books to read once I could find the time to do so.....

I also have quite a Collection of Decorating Books.....

And Christmas Craft and Decorating Books....

Oddly, the book case in the picture above was built for me by my Dad and years ago, not having a need for it, I gave it to my neighbor Elly.....

When we cleaned out her home for her sons, I took it back and painted it white with the rest of all the miss matched furniture in this room.....

On top of the book case.....

I bought this Victorian Lady plaque on Ebay many years ago.....

I keep the TV antenna here for the small TV that my son Joey gave me for this room and I pick up 26 stations on it without cable!!!!

 This was my Mother's lamp....

I embellished the shade....

2 Home Interiors figurines.....

The scarf on top of the book case was made by my maternal Grandmother....

I have a variety of books in this book case....

 Paper back books....

Along with some Christmas books....

 Christmas magazines and Decorating books.....

 Christmas Decorating and Craft books....

And my collection of Children's Golden Books with some of them Christmas ones.....

Next to the larger book case that my Dad built is a smaller one that I bought at a yard sale for $10..

On top of it is a small wall shelf that I painted and papered with music sheet paper......

A vintage doll head that I embellished....

 More paper back books....

Books I bought at church flea markets over the years....

Some Classics and an Anne Perry Collection of books....

And more paper backs from the Library sale where I bought 40 books for $40 from their drive through Co Vid sale....

In the corner is one of 3 curios that I took from my neighbor Elly's house....

In this curio, I have my Collection of amber Depression glass....

Some of which was my Mother's.....

I also have some of my Angel Collection in this curio.....

My Mother bought the ceramic show box for me....

These shoe boxes were bought at a yard sale....

The Nurse figurine was gifted to me by my "Big Sister" when I entered Nursing School....

A "Big Sister" was a student nurse in the class ahead of you when you entered school who was to help and guide you until you were familiar with things at the school.....

Truth be told, this is where I have been sleeping lately....The recliner is quite comfy....

I bought this hanging lamp at the estate sale of one of my former neighbors when she passed away....

Over in this corner of the room....

This was my son Jim's bedroom and only measures 8' x10' so I had to be creative when it came to storage....

I hung shelves on each side of the window to house his stereo, DVD's ,CD's, games and books...

I kept the shelves up on this side of the window....

I wanted to display more of my pretties on them....

Top shelf....

Middle shelf...

Bottom shelf....

Above the closet that now holds seasonal linens, drapes and curtains, clothing and Christmas and Winter Craft Supplies....

Joe's Christening gown hangs on the door....

Both of my sons also wore this christening gown...

Underneath the shelves is another table that I bought at a yard sale and painted white....

I embellished the lamp shade...

It is perfect for storing more books...

In front of the closet doors is Minerva.....

She is dressed in her Summer attire....

Next to the faux fireplace is where I store my gardening books and magazines...

You can read how I transformed this piece of furniture that we took out of my MIL's neighbor's house and had it down our storage shed for over 5 years until I had room for it .....

By clicking HERE.....

Even though I removed the doors in the middle to create the "hearth" area, I still left the doors on the sides and the drop down one on top.....

I believe this odd piece of furniture was a martini bar...

I think glassware was stored in here and the surface that the drop down door provided allowed for the mixing of drinks...

I have photo albums stored in this area...

I think the areas on each side were also used to stored liquor bottles and glassware....

I have used them to store all the Decorating magazines that I have chosen to keep....

They fit perfectly on these shelves....

And there you have it....

My upstairs Sitting Room where I can go to read, look through decorating magazines and books ....

Or just listen to some music and watch TV......

A Victorian Bed and Breakfast would not be complete without such a room for it's guests.....

I hope you enjoyed my Tour of the Sitting Room as part of my Bed and Breakfast Series.....

Coming up soon, as I continue that Series of posts, I will be sharing the Craft Room and my Summer Tree in that room.....

So I hope you will stop by to visit again on Sunday!!

  4. I'm so sorry Covid got to all of you Deb! I missed visiting last week so I had no idea. I am glad you're on the mend but I am adding you and your family to my prayers tonight just the same! I am absolutely in love with your indoor fairy garden. What a beautiful room and I so wish your house was really a Bed and Breakfast because I would have made a reservation long ago! All the little details you put into every design makes everything so special. Thanks so much for sharing and I pray your all 100 percent recovered soon. Take care!

  7. Such a fun and festive place to relax, unwind and settle in Debbie! I love that you created a spot to enjoy and to treat yourself - it's all so pretty. Obsessed with all your tea cups and can't wait to see your trees this year too. I know they're going to be amazing. Glad you're feeling better after having Covid. We know several people that have had it and it sounds rough. Hopefully, you guys will all be on the mend soon. In the meantime though, take care of yourself. Hugs, CoCo

  8. Everything looks nice and orderly. Good you can relax and enjoy what you have accomplished. Pine sol is wonderful! I have for years in the bug season been spraying or pouring almost full strength around my patio door outside and front door to keep ants and bugs away. Not many pests seem to be flocking to pine trees, so that pine works.

  9. Good to hear you are feeling better. Yes, Covid is here to stay and we must all learn to live with it. Looking forward to seeing your craft room. I love reading so would really enjoy your bed and breakfast area.

  10. You have been hard at work using the PineSol. It is works that it would be worth the effort. We had pollen everywhere in the spring. All of your rooms are just lovely!

  11. Hi Deb, I would love to stay at your Bed and Breakfast, and we have stayed at a few over the years. We even made great friends with one couple and filled in for them when they went on vacation. Back then my big dream was running one of my own but now it seems like a lot of work and around here, anyway, they aren't as popular as they once were. My grandkids travel alot at they love to stay in the Airbnb now. Anyway, I can relate to you and your outlook on life, take advantage of your pretty home and that is all the vacation you need..Glad you are feeling better and enjoying the summer days..xxoJudy

  12. Hi Deb, I just wrote a whole long "letter" and magically it disappeared, so will try again. Glad you are feeling better and I would love to come stay at your B&B. We have stayed at a few over the years and even made good friends with a couple and filled in for them when they wanted a little vacation time. I thoroughly enjoyed it and always wanted one of my own but now it just seems like a lot of work. Around here they have seemed to have worn out their welcomes and now it has become the Airbnb. Jake loves to stay at those along the way of their trips. Continue feeling better but be careful as the newest variant is strong up here and I'm hearing you can get it again..Happy Summer Days..xxoJudy
