I am a Victorian Soul, who lives in a small townhouse that was built in the mid 1970's, not a huge Mega Mansion!! I just recently lost my Hubby Joe, who was a Retired Letter Carrier. I worked night shift as an RN on a Hospital based Rehabilitation( Physical Medicine) Unit for 37 years before I had Knee Replacement Surgery and officially Retired in 2019 after 41 years working in Direct Patient Care ... I am so glad that we retired at 62 years of age and got to spend that time together before he passed....I still do love Retirement!!!!

I DABBLE IN A BIT OF THIS AND THAT!!!!

Kitchen Easter Tree and Carrot Crafting!!

Welcome to Debbie-Dabble Blog!!
I am so happy you decided to stop by!!

Today, I will be sharing a Carrot craft and my Kitchen Easter Tree......

But first, I want to Thank, Melissa, over at Little Frugal Homestead, for choosing my post, Easter Bunny Village, as one of her features from last week's Farm Fresh Tuesday Link Party!!
Thanks so much for your kind words, Melissa, and I am glad you like my personal commentary at the beginning of each post!!

Please stop by and link up to this wonderful party!!!

As I mentioned above, I have been starting my posts with a few personal notes, of which I am going to continue to do so because through your comments, you have let me know that you enjoy the personal feeling that it gives my Blog....

If you have visited here over the past few years, when I have posted my Goals for the New Year, you may have noticed that I mentioned making a decision as to whether or not we would be leaving our beloved Parish because of the priest that was transferred there to be our Pastor 3 years ago.....

I personally agonized over this decision not only because of the many friends we made there working on various Fund Raisers together, the fact that the church itself is only 50 years old and I LOVE the modern look of it but mostly, when my parent's passed away, I purchased Leaves in memory of each  of them on the Tree Of Life in the church and those memorialized on it are prayed for at every single Mass.
Joe and I have been attending Mass at other churches but we remained parishioners through monthly online donation to our parish and we also donated to and supported all the Parish Fund Raisers.
We had just made the decision that after 3 years we needed to make a move......

However, as Faith would have it, we will now be able to stay at our beloved Parish!!!!

Unfortunately, it is due to a terrible incident and we pray for those who are the victims ...

But we will be getting a new Pastor!!

You can read about what happened HERE below as I will not go into it but I will say that it did NOT involve children....
It is a funny thing to have a bad feeling and not like a person even though you do not know why.....

I guess it was intuition but we were also warned by parishioners of other parishes, not of incidents like he is accused of but of other incidents about finances, etc even though in our absence, we continued to support our parish through online donations.

We are looking forward to being able to attend mass again in our parish and meet our new Pastor which I hope will be soon!!

This has lifted a huge weight off my shoulders but I am deeply sorry and distressed over the reason that things turned out the way they did...

Okay, now to something more lighthearted......

I am sure you have all seen this on Social Media......

"Christmas won't come for more than nine months, but that isn't stopping many from putting up their Christmas lights amid the coronavirus pandemic.
In recent days, several people on social media have said that they or their neighbors have turned on Christmas lights to lift the spirits of quarantined neighbors.
The trend appears to have begun with Milwaukee Brewers radio broadcaster Lane Grindle. On Sunday, Grindle suggested that putting up Christmas lights would make a fun activity for families while still maintaining proper social distancing."

This was posted recently by a local priest......

"I have an idea! Saw on the news tonight that folks were putting up Christmas lights to brighten up these dark days... As Christians we believe that Christ is the Light of the World. Why not dig out at least one Christmas Candle and place it in your window at night? I would love to see this as I drive through the town at night. It could be a reminder to everyone, that the darkness shall not overcome the Light (Christ)"

Okay, now you know that I would take that and run with it, didn't you?????

I did take down my Winter decorations ad Lights but I did still have some lights in the front of our house, including the candles in each window that the local priest asked for...........
You can see my Easter flag....
This Tree on the front porch is lit year round.....
My lighthouse that I made out of pots has a solar light on the top of it...
And my Park Bench in the front yard.....
After a bit, I decided to added a few more lights......
I added a string of lights to the porch railing......
And I went up in the attic and found this light up Flag that was my neighbor Elly's and I was going to use for the Patriotic Summer Holidays but I think it is fitting to use now as America endures this health crisis.....
Just my small part, trying to bring a bit of Joy and Light to my neighborhood even though I am sure most of my neighbors think I am crazy!!!!

We also celebrated our daughter in law Danielle's Birthday on the weekend!!
We ordered Take out of pizza, boneless chicken bites and cake and ice cream!!

As I mentioned before, I will not distance myself from my children and it was good for our little family of 5 to come together to celebrate Danielle's Birthday!!!

She is such a Blessing to all of us!!!

Last weekend, before everything closed down, I went to Michael's, looking for carrots to hang as ornaments on my Kitchen Tree.......

All to no avail because Michael's was so picked out of Easter decor it was not funny......

Then, being a "non-essential" business in Pa., it closed down!!

They say "Necessity is the  Mother of Invention and I considered carrots for my Easter Kitchen Tree was a necessity!

So, I decided to look in my Craft stash for something to make my own carrots......

I found these......
I bought these in a discount store that sells hardware and other building supplies.....

I was thinking Tussie Mussies when I bought them but now, I saw carrots!!!
I did buy orange paint at Michael's that day.......
 After 5 coats of paint!!!

I then looked for styrofoam to stuff into the cones with so i could add greenery to the tops.....

I found these eggs that I bought at Dollar tree a few years ago......
How fitting in more ways than one!!

I then glued some green Spanish Moss on top of the eggs......
And added green ribbon as ornament hangers.....
I looked for greenery that I had on  hand and found these.....
I only had 4 pieces of this greenery...
I then used the garland greenery.....
And now I had 7 carrots to use as ornaments......
I wanted to keep up the Tree that I decorated in the Kitchen for Fall/Halloween, Christmas and Winter, for Easter....

And I wanted to keep the Tree in the colors of the Kitchen......red, yellow, orange and green......

Hence, the carrots......
The whole concept of decorating for Easter in the Kitchen using carrots started 2 years ago when Kris, over at  JunkChic Cottage, gifted me a bunch of carrots after I mentioned how much i liked the ones she shared in a post.....
Thanks again, Kris!!!

I did not want to spend any money on decorating this Tree so I pulled egg ornaments that I had in those colors from my other Easter Trees.......
This was definitely a lesson in frugality and shopping one's own house!!
I started with a bunch of silk Forsythias and Pussy Willows tucked into the top of the Tree......
I then added a Carrot pick......
I thought the black and white buffalo checked ribbon that I bought in Big Lot's would be perfect for the bow, especially since it had a red trim on the sides......
I had used this Easter plate rack in the kitchen for years......
Since I was going in a different direction in decorating the Kitchen for Easter this year, I decided to make these plates into ornaments by adding ribbon hangers to them........
I pulled Easter Bunny ornaments with carrots from my other Easter Trees......
And lots of Eggs in red, yellow, green and orange......
And my newly created Carrot ornaments!!

To the side of the Tree.....
Hangs a chalkboard that  like to decorate for the Holidays and Seasons......
I covered the apple tile with a Victorian styles Easter card......
My feeble attempt at Chalkboard Art.....
Egg boxes that I embellished......

The Tree lit up in the Evening......
In my next post, I will be sharing the rest of my carrot themed Easter decor on the Hutch in the Kitchen......
So I hope you will stop by to visit again soon!!

Thanks to those who took the time out of their busy day to spend a little bit of time with me!!

  1. Debbie, only you would be the first to do an Easter tree! Love it, and the idea of leaving up the lights from Christmas. I'm not able to decorate much right now as I'm staying with my daughter and family helping with the kids while the parents work from home. I feel fortunate to be here instead of still down alone in Mississippi. Thankfully I was able to sell our new house quickly after I lost Wild Bill in December. Please remember how much joy you bring to us, your followers, when you spread the decor and lights throughout your house and porch. I'm sure your neighbors appreciate it as much as we do!

  2. That carrot tree is just darling!! I can't get enough of it. So cute. Now I have to hit my stash and see if I have anything that I could craft carrots out of....hmmm. In the meantime, I can look at yours!!

  7. Isn't it funny how our intuition usually steers us in one direction for a reason? How sweet to put out more lights for your neighbors to enjoy; I think it's just wonderful how everyone tries to cheer up the others around them. You were quite clever to make those carrots and your decorations are just wonderful. Thanks for sharing with us at Encouraging Hearts and Home. Pinned.

  17. Your carrots are such fun and the decorating looks amazing as always.
It's so interesting to read about how the pandemic is being dealt with in different ways around the world. Here in the Uk we are in lockdown apart from a few specific things. Some people are not sticking to the rules and that is being widely reported but the reality is most people are just staying at home. My daughter had just moved in with her boyfriend, they are only 5 minutes away but the rules are no mixing households so we are only in touch via text and facetime. - I'm so thankful for the technology at the moment!
