Back in September, as a season ticket holder for the Wilkes Barre Scranton Penguins AHL Hockey team, Joe received 2 free tickets to a Pittsburgh Penguins Exhibition Game in Pittsburgh.
Joe has received these every year and since he is retired now, this was the first year that he got to take advantage of it!!
Joe and our oldest son, Joey, decided to take a 3 day mini vacation and go to Pittsburgh....
That gave me a 3 day mini vacation if you get my drift!!
Wink...Wink!!
So this post and pictures are courtesy of Joe.......
On the way to Pittsburgh, our son Joey, who is an avid horror movie buff, wanted to stop at the Monroeville Mall where the iconic horror movie, "Dawn of the Dead" was filmed.......
He was thrilled that he got to cross this off his "Bucket List"!!
They had a small corner in the mall where there was a display.....
"Dawn of the Dead" was one of George Romero's films......
There was a Dawn of the Dead museum that was once housed in the Mall that has now been moved to another location.
They hope to visit that next yea!!!
They stayed at the Cambria Inn which is the official hotel for the Pittsburgh Penguins and is located right next to the PPG arena.
As I mentioned, the hotel was right next to the PPG Arena.....
Joe was in his glory!!
They had great seats in the Club Section!!
They enjoyed the game the evening that they arrived......
The next day, they took the free shuttle provided by the Hotel to the Carnegie Museum of Natural History......
As Joey put it, they have Dinosaurs there!!
He also said that this was when Joe Barna became "Little Joey Barna again"!
He is still Joey to us though!!!
Okay, I thought this picture was really funny!!
I thought this area was impressive!!
There were local students there that day sketching.......
He loved dinoasaurs as a child......
They found this interesting and very weird.......
It was in the Oddities section.......
The Egyptian Section.....
The Arctic section......
On the way home the next day, they took the opportunity to visit the Flight 93 National Park Site in Shanksville, Pa.
This is a model of what the National Park looks like......
Actual artifacts recovered from the scene......
A Timeline of that terrible day....
This actually surprised me and I found a bit unnerving.......
Todd Beamer's ID badge found at the site.....
Flight 93 crew and passengers were awarded the Congressional Gold Medal.........
Outside the Visitor Center.....
Shanksville is in the "Middle of No Where" as Joe put it.......
All farm land........
A walkway around the entire crash site.......
There was a ceremony here on September 11th marking the anniversary......
This is the Visitor Center and the Observation Deck that overlooks the crash site......
This large piece of Limestone marks the actual spot where Flight 93 crashed......
The Wall with all the names of the passengers and crew..........
They are in the process of building a Wind Chime Field.....
Joe and Joey hope that it will be completed by the time they go back next year.....
They really enjoyed their trip and it gave them some great Father and Son time together.....
And it gave me some "Me" time alone!!!!!
I am also happy to announce that after a year of Retirement, Joe has been hired as a part time cashier at .........
Where else.....one of his favorite stores.....Wegman's!!!!!!
He is going for orientation now and will soon start working about 15-20 hours a week!!
Joe is a people person and he finally realized that he needs to get out and talk to people other than me and I NEED him to get out and talk to people other than me!!!!!
LOL!!!!!
In my next post, I will be sharing what our Dining Room looked like for most of the Summer before I decorated it for Halloween.......
This will be my last post on this Blog before I start posting on my Christmas Blog, A Debbie-Dabble Christmas........
I will be posting links on this blog to my posts on my Christmas Blog.......
Yes, I have already started to decorate for Christmas and I will be starting my Christmas Home Tour next week.....
So I hope you will be back to visit again soon.......
And thanks to those who took the time out of their busy day to spend a little bit of time with me!!

That is such a cool trip.
ReplyDeleteYour Joey sounds a lot like my son Debbie. He loves his scary movies and has been besotted with dinosaurs. He always wanted to be a paleontologist. It looks like the guys had a wonderful time and I'm glad you git some "ME" time too.
ReplyDeleteThanks for including readers in your great tour of the museum!
ReplyDeleteI love Pittsburgh! It looks like they had a really good time and brought you back some great pictures (I think the hummingbird is going to have me breaking out in puzzled laughter all day... that they specified she was Lutheran, whaaa---?) Thanks so much for sharing with Party in Your PJs!
