My "New" Sitting Room Reveal, Part 1

I am finally ready to reveal my "New" Sitting Room!!!

This room was my youngest son 's bedroom.......

I have worked on this project of turning our Guest Room into a Sitting Room since the end of May.....
It all started very unexpectedly when we decided to give the single bed in this room to a neighbor because we realized that in 38 years of marriage, we have never had a "Guest" stay over and our chances of having grandchildren are slim to none!!

We would get a lot more use out of this room if we turned it into a Sitting Room for me so we bought a new recliner for this room and got rid of the single bed.

Let me first show you the entire room........
I am going to share this room in 3 posts because I have a lot to show you!!
I have painted furniture, embellished lamp shades and even made a few things using the sheets from the bedding set that once was on the single bed.
I did all of this in record breaking heat this Summer and I have to say that I am exhausted but I am very pleased with the results!
Joe calls this room "The Library" because all of my books and magazines are now in this room......
And I now have a "Fire Place" that I could sit by and enjoy!!

I am going to start over in the corner where the bed once was.......

Over the door into the room.......
I love this quote and this is my motto since even though I am a Nurse by Profession, it is something that my Mother made me do and not what I wanted to do!!

This is now how this corner looks......
I left this shelf here after my son moved out......
He used to keep books and DVD's on this shelf.....
I use it to display some "pretties"......
The tatted edge scarves were made by my maternal grandmother.....
We moved the swag lamp that was hung here originally above the bed to another place in the room.....
I hung another chandy in it's place.......
I made what I call a "Garden Chandy"
The clear votive cups are glued to the chandy so I first filled them half way with some spagnum moss and then placed mini  pots from Dollar Tree in the votives.......
I filled the pots with flowers that match the border in the room.......
I also hung some left over crystals that I had from the chandy to glam it up a bit.....
Underneath the shelf......
Vintage ceramic parasol pockets.....
Above the window mirror is an old Home Interiors Swag that I bought at Salvation Army a few years ago......
The beaded garland that I draped around the mirror was given to me by a friend......
The window mirror was one of the many things that I painted white......
Another small rectangle mirror was hung under the window mirror to reflect the light from the one single small window in this room.......

In the corner.........
The vintage hand painted plate was a flea market find as was most of the things in this room......
The Birth Plaques were made for us by my niece, Lisa, when each of my sons were born......
One of the lamp shades that I embellished, used with a vintage lamp.........
The table is set for Tea...........
The Tea Set was bought at a church flea market......
The ruffle on the tablecloth was one of the sewing projects that I mentioned earlier, using the bedding set from the single bed that was once in this room........
I added the dust ruffle from the bedding set to the tablecloth!
Over to the left of the table........
Is the wash stand that was given to me by a neighbor many years ago......
 Another paint project........

Some Christmas magazines are stored in this container....
The vintage bowl and pitcher set were bought several years ago at a flea market......
A candle sits in the matching chamber pot......
The white Christmas Tree that I set up in this room for the Holidays will go in this corner.......
Over on the other wall.......
Along the top of the wall is another shelf that my son used for his DVD's and Games......
I now use it to display my Tea Pot collection........
Again, all bought at yard sales......
Flea markets........
And estate sales for $1.00 or 2.......
The pink and blue scarves were also made by my grandmother.......
Some of my Tea Cup Collection is displayed on this shelf that was another one of my paint projects.......
The Rosie B Tea Set on top of the shelf was a gift from a friend and the cups are vintage fiesta ware, given to me by a neighbor.....
My Tea Cups were bought at flea markets, yard sales and estate sales............
Underneath the Tea Cup Shelf.......
An old Home Interior picture and a pair of plates that were gifted to me by a friend.........
A vanity chair that I re-upholstered using sheets......
And a pillow that I also made.......
In my next post, I will start with this table........
 And continue around the room......
So I hope you will be back to visit soon !!!!!!

And thanks to those who took the time out of their busy day to spend a little bit of time with me!!

The garden chandy is so cute. So, if you hadn't become a nurse, what would you like to have done? Decorator?? Thanks for sharing and enjoy your day.
