Friday August 12th, was our 38th Anniversary!!! YIKES!!!!
Good Grief!!
You can see by the look on my parent's faces how they felt that day.....
Look at how young we were!!!
That is because we WERE young!!
I was 20 years old and Joe was just 5 days shy of his 24th Birthday!!
38 years!!
Where has the time gone???
On Saturday, we celebrated our Anniversary with a nice quiet dinner for 2 at home since I worked on Friday, the 12th, which was our Anniversary......
I threw together an Anniversary Tablescape to celebrate the occasion!!
Nothing really too fancy!!
I used my very first set of China.......
China that I had bought at the Acme Market before I was married!!!
You can see I was partial to Roses even at 18 years old!!!
Simple but elegant!
Joe bought the gold flatware when Service Merchandise went out of business!!
I also bought these crystal angel salt and pepper shakers at Service Merchandise!
A simple rose paper napkin rolled in a napkin holder......
I bought the place mats in Belevidere, N.J. one year during their Annual Victorian Days......
You can see that they are reversible.......
I placed a candelabra that I painted pink a long time ago , on top of our Wedding album, which I discovered was way to big to open up and display on the table!!!!
Nothing like a little candle light.....
Since our Wedding Album was too big to display on the table, I took a few photos out of the album of our proofs........
And scattered them about the table.......
After I took the photos, I realized that since these photos were proofs, there are numbers in the right hand corner which were used for ordering!!
So please ignore those silly numbers!! LOL!!
These are the pictures that I think meant the most to me.......
Now what exactly did we have to eat for our Anniversary Dinner??????
Have I ever mentioned that Joe makes a mean Lobster Tail and that anyone who has ever had lobster at our house says it is the BEST that they ever had???????
He does boil it in water with some "secret" ingredients..........
And then he splits the tails in half.......
Adds pats of butter and sprinkles with paprika and then puts the tails in the oven under the broiler, butterflying them......
So that they melt in your mouth!!!!
Many years ago, I bought Butter Warmers at Boscov's Department Store......
These were probably one of the best things I ever bought!!
Keeps the butter nice and hot!!
We also had fried scallops and potatoes with our lobster!!
We don't drink alcohol so our crystal glasses are filled with soda!!
The small bowls were used for tartar sauce for the scallops.....
We were asked by a few friends why we did not go out to have dinner......
Here is why:
No waiting in line to get a table on a weekend
No screaming kids or hearing other people's conversations while we eat
And not that the price had anything to do with it but we got much more for our money than any eatery would ever give us!!
1 pound of potatoes, 3/4 pound of scallops and a container of tartar sauce,
bought at Valley Seafood = $13.49
2 lobster tails weighing a little over 12 oz. each, bought at Sam's Club = $27.00
Total cost of Dinner for 2= $40.49!!
Now where could we ever get a dinner like that for a little over $20 a person!!
It was a lovely quiet Anniversary Dinner for 2!!

Happy Anniversary to you and Joe! H and I will celebrate our 50th next year....Nov 2017. We always eat at home on special days for the same reasons you gave...I esp. hate all the noise! You set a gorgeous table, and yes I do remember Service. The clock that hangs in the utility room came from there ( Christmas gift from my mother) Have a blessed week...hugs...
ReplyDeleteI almost forgot to mention what a beautiful bride you were...
ReplyDelete{{{Big Big Smiles}} Beautiful. Happy Anniversary to you both and wishes for many more.
ReplyDeleteWe will celebrate our 28th anniversary on Dec 31. I often wonder where those years have gone.
Thank you for the smiles.
Happy Anniversary, Deb! What a lovely 'restaurant' you went to! I know the decor was just to your liking ;)
ReplyDeleteYou made a really romantic scene to dine in, all the candle-light must've looked lovely.
You both did look very young in your wedding photos..they are so sweet. My hubby and I married at ages 21 (me) and 24 (him)
~ mere babes, really. But we wanted to, although people still said we were a bit young.
Happy memories!
Oh congrats. 38 years is excellent. Your table looks lovely, here is to many more.

Happy Anniversary! Your table looks so pretty, I love the idea of having the wedding album out and pictures on the table, I may have to do that on ours, it will be 33 for us, we were 19 when we got married. Love your candle centerpiece too, and so neat you used your china that you had bought before marrying!
ReplyDeleteHappy anniversary to you both! 38 years is something to be proud of and what a legacy of true commitment. For better or worse...right? I love your anniversary tablescape. What a wonderful idea of displaying the wedding pictures on the table! I might need to borrow this idea from you girl! Loved it! And you are so right about the "eating out" thing. I love your menu of choice. Enjoyed this so much this morning. Hugs and blessings, Cindy

ReplyDeleteHappy Anniversary Debbie and Joe! Perfect way to celebrate 38 years. Your tablescape is beautifully done and so meaningful with the pictures that meant the most to you. Such beautiful pictures of a young couple ready to embark on the greatest journey life has to offer. I enjoyed your post! I do remember service merchandise. What surprises me is that you recall where you picked things up . . . I have no idea where most of the things I bought over the years have come from! Thanks for sharing with us at Snickerdoodle Sunday! Have a wonderful week and take care of you and Joe :)

ReplyDeleteBelated Happy Anniversary, Debbie. What a lovely way to spend the evening.Your table setting is so pretty and I love that you sprinkled photos from your wedding on the table top. Thanks for sharing with us at Snickerdoodle!
ReplyDeleteWhat a cute couple and Happy Belated Anniversary to you and Joe, Debbie! Like I've said a few times beofre, you and I have a lot in common but one thing we don't. My hubby doesn't cook! You are so blessed that Joe does and the meal looks wonderful. I love scallops and the lobster looks delicious! We don't drink either and soda or sparkling grape juice looks just as enticing in a pretty crystal goblet. Love the photos and my, what a big wedding you had! Something else we don't have in common. I had a very small wedding with only a couple of friends in attendance because my mother didn't want me marrying my sweetie. Thank goodness she has changed her mind about that but it's taken her almost forty years to admit she was wrong! LOL The rose place mats are really pretty too and I also chose a rose motif on my first set of dishes. I've loved roses since I was a little girl. I enjoyed your post and thank you for sharing with us.
ReplyDeleteBlessings,
Sandi
