I am a Victorian Soul, who lives in a small townhouse that was built in the mid 1970's, not a huge Mega Mansion!! I just recently lost my Hubby Joe, who was a Retired Letter Carrier. I worked night shift as an RN on a Hospital based Rehabilitation( Physical Medicine) Unit for 37 years before I had Knee Replacement Surgery and officially Retired in 2019 after 41 years working in Direct Patient Care ... I am so glad that we retired at 62 years of age and got to spend that time together before he passed....I still do love Retirement!!!!

In my last post, I shared how I decorated my seasonal Tree in the Living Room for the Patriotic Summer Holidays.....

 And the are underneath it....

Click HERE if you missed that post!!

And now for a few Personal Notes...

Grief now comes in waves at times since the first year after Joe's passing is over....

And for some reason, yesterday, on Father's Day, it hit me like a tidal wave......

I needed to give myself some grace.....

Yesterday was also one year since I last saw my dear friend Anne Marie when she came to visit....

She too was gone in only a few months after telling me she had stage 4 uterine cancer....

I guess I will have days like that at times.....

Today, I will be finishing up the tour of my Living Room decorated for the Patriotic Summer Holidays....

We will start at the front door.....

To the left of the door....

A vintage marble topped plant stand.....

I tucked some flags and a few stars into the floral arrangement in this vintage pitcher......

And I wrapped some red, white and blue wooden beads around the pitcher....

I added a Patriotic bow to the lid on top of the apothecary jar.......

A red, white and blue tinsel Dollar Tree wreath surrounds the bottom of the jar.....

This red, white and blue ruler was my late neighbor Elly's......

I placed it here until I can come up with something else to do with it....

Any ideas????

On the front door.....

A plaque that I made.....

On the left side of the stairs.....

A fire cracker that I bought at Michael's and embellished.....

I bought these 2 lanterns when the local Sears store was closing for a little over a dollar a piece....

I made the bow on top and tucked 2 flags into the top.....

I taped a flag to a battery operated candle and placed a few red and blue ornaments including a star around the candle.....

An Angel I made....

I tucked a Patriotic coaster in this lantern......

A Patriotic soldier.....

On the right side of the stairs.....

I bought this sweet lady at a church flea market several years ago....

Another Dollar Tree tinsel wreath.....

I embellished the birdhouses that I bought at Gabes with vintage style tags....

The bottle has George Washington on it and I put a set of bottle lights inside of it...

The corner by the stairs....

I like to decorate this chair for the different Holidays and Seasons....

A floral arrangement in a pot that I embellished.....

Patriotic desserts and treats......

The cupcake dishes came from The Christmas Tree Shop.....

And this beautiful tray of handmade Patriotic desserts were made and gifted to me by my FB friend Angela....

The towel with a popsicle on it was among the last gifts that my late friend Anne Marie gifted to me.....

Under the chair....

I also bought these 2 lanterns at Sears when it was closing....

I taped music sheets of  Patriotic songs to the back of them....

Added ornaments and stars.....

In this lantern, I added a Patriotic card....

And a hat...

I placed them underneath the chair....

I added a bow o the top of the smaller one....

And placed a metal truck sign in front of it...

My second Patriotic Tree in the Living Room.....

I decorated this lighted branch Tree with red, blue and silver ornaments....

On the marble topped cherub stand that the Tree sits on....

The dessert on the left was also made and gifted to me by my friend Angela...

 Above the curio.....

A hanging fire cracker that I made....

A plate I bought many years ago in Salvation Army....

I bought these bells in Big Lot's after Christmas on Clearance.....

I know this picture is not great but I hung them on each side of the entrance into the Dining Room.....

I made bows using a red and white stripped ribbon and I cut strips out of the fabric from an old Patriotic blunting....

 On the left side.....

On the right side....

And that finishes the tour of my Living Room decorated for the Patriotic Summer Holidays.....

This is the only room that I decorate this way in the Summer and it will stay this way until mid July when I change to over to my "Under the Sea" Coastal theme for Late Summer....

I hope you enjoyed seeing my Patriotic decor!!!

  1. Love your decorations and the bells. I think I am going to use more bells at Christmas. I love the red, white and blue. Another rainy day here and if it's not rainy, it stays overcast.

  2. Dear Deb, grief does come in waves. Time helps but there are certain triggers for sure. Hugs))

    1. Barb,
I didn't think Father's Day would bother me but Joe would have so enjoyed the Twins at this age and that got me....

  3. I absolutely love all of your patriotic decor! Your home is always so fascinating to me, the way you change and make it look so different for each holiday! I know your children and grands have to love it! Also, I'm sorry fathers day was so hard, the firsts are always the toughest, but I'm glad you give yourself grace to grieve and miss your husband. Hugs!
