I am a Victorian Soul, who lives in a small townhouse that was built in the mid 1970's, not a huge Mega Mansion!! I just recently lost my Hubby Joe, who was a Retired Letter Carrier. I worked night shift as an RN on a Hospital based Rehabilitation( Physical Medicine) Unit for 37 years before I had Knee Replacement Surgery and officially Retired in 2019 after 41 years working in Direct Patient Care ... I am so glad that we retired at 62 years of age and got to spend that time together before he passed....I still do love Retirement!!!!

The "Might as Well's'" and Early Fall Front Yard, 2020

Welcome to Debbie-Dabble Blog!!

I am so happy you decided to stop by!!

Today, I will be sharing my Fall Front Yard.....

In a previous post, I shared our Fall Front Porch.....

Click HERE if you missed it....

I also mentioned that I gave Joe a job from my 2-3 Year To Do List....

 Painting the porch railing.....

And of course it turned into a "Might as Well" job like so many projects often do.....

We thought we "Might as Well" paint a few other things to freshen them up since the railings turned out looking so nice with a fresh new coat of semi gloss black paint...

Of course, I could not let Joe have all the fun so I grabbed a brush and went to work too!!

 I do LOVE to paint!!

I would rather paint then cook any day!!!

So because of all this painting, I am quickly going to show you some changes to the Front Porch that took place after the post I did on it decorated for Fall with just a bit of Halloween....

The marigolds, begonia and impatiens are still hanging in there even though we had temps. in the 30's over the weekend.....

So here are some of the things that got a fresh coat of paint.....

My vintage mail box....

The "Welcome Friends" sign, Eagle and House Numbers above the Front Door.....

I also put a coat of polyurethane on the wood signs to help protect them from the elements....

The vintage Eagle match holder by the Front Door and the "Welcome to Our Porch" sign....

After the railing was painted, I added my Fall garland to the rail like I have in years passed....

This year, I decoded to forego the large deco mesh bows that I usually attached on each end of the railing....

I did have a small planter filled with red impatiens attached to the front railing and that has now been moved to the back yard....

So those were a few little changes for now because I will be sharing the changes I will have to make once Frost kills off my annuals and I have to buy a few mums and also how the front of the house looks lit up in the evening....

Okay, now on to the Front Yard.....

My small flower bed under the Living Room window.....

I gave the shrubs a good trimming before the Winter.....

Fall mini flags......

I moved my chippy angel over here from the long flower bed that runs along our row of townhouses...

It never ceases to amaze me how much wiser I get with age because I realized that by adding the net lights now to the shrubs in this flower bed, it will save some time when I decorate the front for Christmas/Winter!!!

These lights go on by timer every evening with the rest of the lights......

We also have taken out the air conditioner in the Living Room.....

I have been changing over all the linens, curtains and drapes in the Living Room from Summer to Fall.......

Yes, these red impatiens have definitely stole the show out in the front of our house....

It is hard to believe that I planted only 4 impatiens in each urn!!!

I will be planting the same thing next Spring too!!!

You can see that the railing on the steps that lead down to the first 2 townhouses in our row, really needed a painting....

Looking down the sidewalk in front of our house....

Here is the newly painted railings......

I moved the pot in the bicycle planter and the large black pot from my park bench over here...

A Dollar Tree Fall sign.....

Our long and narrow Front Yard at the top of our slope.....

Now you know what I am thinking looking at this peeling painted white stand that my faux mail box is anchored to, don't you????

We "Might as Well" sand that down and paint that too but I may wait until the Spring on that or maybe I can get Joe to do it.....

A faux pumpkin and a few yard critters......

A Fall mail box cover.....

Marigolds and impatiens here are still hanging in there....

All the Summer Garden Art has been packed up so except for the solar lights which will be packed away before I start to decorate for Christmas, everything out here will be kept out front over the Winter....

Looking back at the yard.....

I painted the lantern part of this lamp post and Joe painted the bottom so I would not roll down the slope in front of our house....

I also painted these shepherd hooks.....

You can see why I moved the large pot of red begonias off the park bench......

I placed the Fall topiary I made several years ago on the bench......

I used 2 of the bows that I had used on the porch railing in the past, here on the lamp post...

One on the front and one facing the house.....

I did make a new bow out of orange deco mesh ribbon for the top as the previous one was faded.....

I kept the lantern and angel on the bench and added some faux gourdes and a pumpkin......

I took the pot of marigolds that was on the bench and placed it beside the bench.....

Sneak peak of the lights in the evening as I will be doing a separate post on it later on.....

In October, I will switch this torch light bulb out for a LED orange one.......

LED orange lights on the topiary and white lights wrapped around the park bench......

And I added another set of orange lights to the Tree on the porch......

And at the end of our yard......

A faux pumpkin by the deer that stay out year round.....

Another Fall mini flag...

I hope you enjoyed seeing the changes to the Front Porch Fall decor and how I decorated the Front Yard for Fall!!!

In my next post, I will be sharing this wall in my Kitchen, which I call the focal wall......

This year, I decided to decorate the hutch in more of a Halloween theme.....

And of course, the Kitchen Tree which I made all the ornaments for last year......

So I hope you will stop by to visit again soon!!

Stay safe, healthy and most of all, HAPPY!!

  1. You have been one busy woman. I'm glad you have help. You remind me I need to paint my railing before it gets too cold. Maybe I'll do that next week -- it's supposed to be nice. I like the black. And it looks great with your beautiful fall decorations!

  3. Good morning, Debbie. Your front yard and porch look amazing. I love the warm colors, the pops of gold and orange .Your fall topiary is gorgeous . I would love to make one for my porch as well. Great idea on going ahead and putting up some of your Christmas lights. I do the same in respect to my mantle. I put up my Christmas garland and lights and then overload it with the fall leaves, pumpkins and sunflowers. You would never know there was Christmas garland waiting to be unveiled in November. I am super excited to see your next post. I love your kitchen and can not wait to see more of your gorgeous hutch. Happy decorating and hugs, Melisa

  12. Wow, I bet you two do not have a bit of trouble finding your way home with all that color out front. Are your neighbors ever jealous, and ask you to decorate their places? And, I'll tell you what...that Joe is a Keeper!! One thing I did not understand, why do the solar lights get packed away before you begin your Christmas decorating? I would think your exterior decor at that time is just as gorgeous as this. Shouldn't it have a little accent lighting, as well? Go Rest, Now. ls4@windstream.net

hanks so much for stopping by!! The winters here in NEPA can be very harsh with snow and ice and if so, that usually destroys the solar lights and I have to go and buy all new ones the following year.... I decorate for Christmas with a lot of lights that are programmed by timer to stay on all night until the morning so the solar lights half the time do not even come on...I leave lights on the front of the house until March during the winter to brighten things up...
    Take care, Deb
