WELCOME TO MY NEW BLOG!!!!

Even though this blog looks like my old one, Debbie-Dabble, "Debbie-Dabble Blog" is my new Blog that I created on June 23, 2016, after my old one was hacked through my Debbie-Dabble Face Book Page which I have now deleted!!

I am a Victorian Soul, live in a small townhouse that was built in the middle 70's, not a huge Mega Mansion, with my Hubby Joe. I worked night shift as an RN on a Hospital based Rehabilitation( Physical Medicine) Unit for 37 years before it closed in November of 2018 and have been a nurse for almost 41 years, with most of that time being full time!!! I recently had my knee replacement surgery done after putting it off for 6 years... I am NOW officially retired!!!!!

I DABBLE IN A BIT OF THIS AND THAT!!!!

Front Yard Update, 2019

Welcome to Debbie-Dabble Blog!!

I am so happy you decided to stop by!!

Today, I will be sharing a late Summer Update on how my flowers are doing in our front yard......`
In a post I did previously, I shared how the flowers that I planted in the pots and urns around our front porch were doing......
Click HERE if you missed that post.....

Today, we will pick up from where I left off.......

This is the small flower bed underneath our Living Room window.......
On the edge of the Front Porch is a long planter.......
I planted 4 begonias in it.......
Look at how it has filled in!!!
Begonias always do well in the front of our house since it does not get the Sun until the evening.....
I would rather plant flowers in pots instead of in the flower bed itself......
One of the 2 mini flags......
I planted red impatiens in these pots after the yellow gerber daisies that I originally planted here died.....

Lesson learned......
The hosta has grown a bit......
The other mini flag.....
I planted 2 new guinea impatiens in each of these urns on the wall between my neighbor's yard and ours......
They have definitely done better than last year when we had day after day of rain!!!
And I also planted 4 begonias in this long planter.....
They are also doing well........
Since we have a large slope in the front of our house, we only have a long narrow flower bed that runs along the front of our row of townhouses.......
At this end, across from the flower bed underneath the Living Room window.........
One yellow marigold planted in this small pot......

My faux mailbox......
One begonia planted in the small pot underneath the mailbox....
And one impatien planted in this vintage watering can......
My park bench........
This red gerber daisy is doing much better than the 2 that died in the flower bed underneath the Living Room window......
And so is this yellow marigold.......
Last Sunday, I decided to trim the azaleas as they were getting a bit large for this space.......
They always grow back with gusto!!
I would have trimmed this one back a bit more......
But I discovered this!!!!!
Yep!! That is a fairly good sized bee hive!!
I am grateful that I didn't accidently cut it open!!!!
I left it here because since there is a world wide issue with decreasing Bee Populations, I did not want to destroy it and Joe, who is deathly afraid of bees, was too afraid of getting stung!!!

Joe cut back the forsythia....that was before I discovered the hive!!
And I also cut back this azalea.....
It looks a bit cleaner now since it was starting to look a bit over grown with all the rain that we have had this year!!!!
As you can see we are already ahead of last year which was our wettest year on record!!!

And that completes my late Summer front porch.........
 And flower update.....
I will be doing another update in the Fall as I transition the front porch and yard into Fall......

If you look past my yard, down the steps.......
You can see my neighbor Maryann's yard......
She lives in the end unit in our row of townhouses.......
I think I am going to have to ask her for some of those Black Eyed Susans for my back yard!!!!

I hope you will stop by to visit again soon!!

Thanks to those who took the time out of their busy day to spend a little bit of time with me!!

  4. Your flower garden is beautiful! I love all of your begonias, my yard is too hot and sunny for them. I had right knee total replacement last May and left knee total knee replacement in July of this year. I don't have many annual flowers in my yard after these almost two summers of knee surgery and recovery, but hopefully will be able to get my flower beds going again next spring, though recovery on my knee this time seems to be going slower. I'm glad I have some pretty perennials, black eyed Susans, Crepe Myrtles, and roses, to give my yard some color.

I may be wrong, but I think that may be a hornets nest instead of just regular honey or bumble bees. Be very careful if they are hornets. They swarm and sting horribly. Hornets that I have seen look kind of like very large honey bees.

  6. Hi Debbie, i bet you have the prettiest porch in your development The flowers will work beautifully into the fall! I would contact your management or HOA about that nest, it needs to go, not bees! Take care!

  13. Your garden is lovely and must bring so much joy to all of your neighbors. I never have luck with begonias but my impatients always do great. That is definitely a hornets/wasp nest and you should most definitely have it removed - they are very aggressive and their sting is extremely painful-trust me!

  14. Are you sure that's a bee hive and not a hornet's nest?
