Bumping Out "The Bump Out", The Patio Project, Part 5, 2017

Welcome!!

Today, I will be sharing how I bumped out " The Bump Out" section of our Patio........
But first, I want to Thank Kathy, over at A Delightsome Life, for featuring my post, Our Very Wet Cottage Garden, from last week's Home and Garden Linky Party!!

Thanks so much, Kathy!!

And I also want to Thank Bev, over at Eclectic Red Barn, for featuring my post, The Patio Project, Part 3, Joe's Side, as one of the monthly features from the You're The Star Blog Hop!!
Thanks so much , Bev!! And also Thanks to Bev's Co Host, Angie, over at God's Growing Garden!!

Please stop by and link up to these wonderful parties!!

A few years ago, I wanted to provide more shade than the awning off the back of our townhouse provided in our patio and back yard.........

So I extended the Patio by placing pavers beyond the concrete block between the 2 walkways, making it large enough for a table, chair and a small umbrella that is actually a beach umbrella........
You can see "The Bump Out" part of the Patio in a photo I shared in a post from a few weeks ago......
We were given a market umbrella that measured 8 1/2 ft.in diameter by a friend of ours but it was too big to fit on "The Bump Out" because of the awning which was exactly the reason why we were using a beach umbrella to start with!

But I really liked this market umbrella so I came up with an idea......

To bump out "The Bump Out"!!

Now it was me and not Joe who laid the pavers for "The Bump Out" in the first place so I got busy again........
I dug out the part of the garden to the exact size of the umbrella stand.........

I had 2 extra pavers and 2 bricks that came from the demolition of my childhood church so I used them.......
I then took some of the rocks that created a border down one of the walkways in the garden and framed out the new "Bump Out"
I did have to transplant 2 perennials.......
I think the rock border makes it look more natural......
You can see how the umbrella stand fits nicely in the new bumped out area!!
I also placed smaller scalloped brick borders that I already had on each side.....
I like how it came out.....
The table and chair fit nicely in front.....
And here is my "new" market umbrella in place!!
By putting it back further, it does not hit the patio awning!!
It does provide more shade then the other one did.....
What did I do with the larger scalloped brick borders that I took out to make room for the new bumped out area?

I used them for the left side of this walkway......
I also had some extra pieces of the scalloped brick border that a neighbor gave me so I decided to use them too!!

I used them as a border for this walkway to the shed......
I also used a few spare bricks that I had.....
And a spare paver to make the walkway a bit wider......
I know it is not perfect but I did not spend a dime ofr any of these little projects and I think it looks quaint and charming!

I hope you enjoyed seeing how I bumped out "The Bump Out"!!
And I hope you will be back to visit again soon.......

  13. I love your "Bump Out" Debbie. It's such an ingenious idea and you hardly even notice it's there when the umbrella stand is pushed inwards. Very clever and I'm still super impressed that you did all that work yourself. You go girl!!!!
