I am a Victorian Soul, who lives in a small townhouse that was built in the mid 1970's, not a huge Mega Mansion!! I just recently lost my Hubby Joe, who was a Retired Letter Carrier. I worked night shift as an RN on a Hospital based Rehabilitation( Physical Medicine) Unit for 37 years before I had Knee Replacement Surgery and officially Retired in 2019 after 41 years working in Direct Patient Care ... I am so glad that we retired at 62 years of age and got to spend that time together before he passed....I still do love Retirement!!!!

Blogging has always been a stress reliever for me along with an avenue to share my passions which are my home and my garden.....

I feel it is a personal Journal that, hopefully, someday, my Twin Granddaughters will be able to look back on to learn about who I was....

I will be posting 3 times a week on MONDAYS, THURSDAYS and SATURDAYS....

As always, click on each picture if you would like to enlarge it....

 A NOTE ABOUT COMMENTS

I enjoy reading your comments and will return the favor by visiting and commenting on your blog or reply to you directly here if you do not have a blog but I do have my comment section set to Moderation due to spammers and hackers so your comment will not appear immediately...
And since I have a very busy life, like most of us do, it may take me awhile to return your comments but I promise I will....

 -----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

In my last post, I shared how I decorated my Kitchen Hutch for Early Summer using a Roos, Hens and Bees theme....

Did a Strawberry display on the desk area of the Hutch....

And I decided to keep up my Kitchen Tree year round...

Click HERE if you missed that post!!

And now for a few Personal Notes...

We continue to see rain here every one to two days.....

I am trying to get weeding and some yard work done between rain drops.....

I managed to weed the lower half of my slope in front of my house along with the next door neighbor's yesterday morning after I came home from Mass, trying to beat the rain...

I had fun using my new blower to clean up the parking spaces in front of the slope....

Last year, after trimming my shrubs by hand , with subsequent pain for days afterward, I decided to buy this....

Homelite 12V Lithium 18 in. Cordless Hedge Trimmer with Internal 2.5 Ah Battery and Charger

It was on sale in Home Depot for $69.99 with free delivery to my house!

I liked this one because the battery is built in and charges with the use of a charging cord...

I am looking forward to using it on my forsythia which now looks pretty wild and on the rhododendron before it gets as tall as my roof with all the rain we have been getting....

I will let you know what I think when I finally do get the chance to use it..

Way back in the beginning of May, I decorated my Living Room for the Patriotic Summer Holidays...

Even though the Living Room was decorated this way for Memorial Day, I decided to wait to share it with you until June in anticipation for the July 4th Celebration!!

The Living Room is the only room that I decorate for the Patriotic Summer Holidays with the rest of the house being devoid of Holiday decorations for the Summer....

Today, I want to share how I decorated the top of my TV entertainment center......

Which I like to treat as a "Mantel"!

I am going to start with the garland which is an evergreen garland that I leave up year round......

I use it as a base in creating a garland for the different holidays and seasons....

I added a red, blue and silver tinsel garland , bought at Dollar Tree, that I decided not to use when decorating my Seasonal Tree in the Living Room.....

I added hanging greenery bought at Dollar Tree on each end....

I then added some ornaments.....

Like these new ones I recently bought at Dollar Tree.....

Red jingle bells bought one year on clearance after Christmas....

A bow made from Patriotic ribbon is in the center......

I added 2 of these bows, again bought on clearance after Christmas, to each end of the garland....

And a set of Fairy lights to it that come on by timer.....

 Okay.....

Next is how I decorated the top of the TV Entertainment Center.....

Over on the left side.....

The Patriotic Carolers came from the Christmas Tree Shop many years ago....

An Avon Martha Washington Fostoria cobalt blue goblet bought for 99 cents at Salvation Army many years ago............

The blue transferware dishes are Liberty Blue

" Liberty Blue, made exclusively for the bank between 1975 & 1976

There are 15 Historic Colonial Scenes of the period which coincided with the American Bicentennial in 1976.

New Account holders, who made a $50 deposit, were offered a four piece place setting."

The dinner plate shows  picture of  Indepence Hall...

 A bust of George Washington....

Last year, I printed out a few Patriotic Song Sheets that were free for the taking and made a border out of all things, Dollar Tree paper Patriotic Hot Dog holders that I cut and pasted onto to a piece of cardboard.....

I then placed them in frames that I had in my stash.....

 In the center.....

This year, I hung a wreath that I made, on a wreath stand, like I did last year......

In years past, I used to decorate this white Tree........

This year, I decided to place this "firecracker" that I made in the center....

I used some vintage images when making it...

  Another framed Patriotic song....

More Carolers....

An Avon Fostoria cobalt blue George Washington goblet....

More Liberty Blue......

The small bowl's, with Betsy Ross on it, marking......

No, it is not a blurry picture as it is stamped that way....

And a bust of Thomas Jefferson.....

I am happy with how it turned out this year....

I purchased the lamps that I now have here after I took down my Patriotic decorations last year.....

It was one of my best purchases....

I also want to share how I decorated the area in front of the TV Entertainment Center.....

Like many who have these older centers, I have made use of the areas no longer filled with VCR's, DVD players, etc....

I still have a DVR as I still have cable and I have a Roku hooked up for streaming services....

I use one side to display several items gifted to me by my son Jim and his family.....

I have to replace the batteries in the crystal 3 D pictures  to the right of my sweet grand pups!!!

Now I know many have hung their TV's on their walls but I prefer to try to disguise this ugly big black box as best as I could so I like it enclosed in a center like this....

Which is why, when my TV died last year, I replaced it with one I could fit in this unit....

Another trick I like to use to "hide" the big black box is now found on You Tube...

Framed TV screen art!!!

These even look great on TV's mounted to walls as they look like a picture hanging on the wall rather then a black box!!

On the floor in front.....

I always have a chest here that I like to decorate....

I covered it with a piece of fabric from a tablecloth.....

On top of a Christmas drum that I decided to keep out, is an Avon Betsy Ross cologne decanter.......

And An Avon Fostoria cobalt blue pitcher with Mount Vernon on it,

On the sides are faux books.....

I turned the drum upside down and tucked this brass eagle, that was my late neighbor Elly's, through the cording.....

In front of the chest is a wood sign I bought many years ago in Gabes.....

 "As American as Apple Pie".....

Before I end this post, when going through a few older posts, I came across this.....

My late friend Anne Marie gifted me these Patriotic Goodies last year!!!!

4 Dinner plates....

2 dish cloths....

A package of pretty Patriotic napkins....

And a stem of Patriotic pom poms!!

Except for my Cynthia Hart Victorian calendar that she send me at Christmas while she was in the hospital for 44 days before she passed away, these were the last gifts that she gave me....

We had a wonderful afternoon on that day last year...

It was the last time that I would ever see her because when she was diagnosed shortly afterward with Stage 4 uterine cancer that spread and she went down hill so quickly, she did not want anyone to see her like that....

I respected that....

This was the last picture taken of us in February, 2024, by Joe!

Never did I ever think that in only 11 months, I would lose both of them....

I am sometimes asked why I continue to decorate the way I do...

Why, at this point in my life after everything that has happened in the past year or so, would I stop doing the things that give me JOY and HAPPINESS and reminds me of so many good times spent with family and friends as I gaze upon so many gifts, that those who are no longer here, gifted me?????

In my next post on THURSDAY, I will be continuing my Tour of the Living Room decorated for the Patriotic Summer Holidays.....

So I hope you will stop by to visit again on THURSDAY!!

Stay safe, healthy and most of all, HAPPY!!

  3. There's so much great patriotic inspiration here Deb! I especially love the blue transferware, framed sheet music and the patriotic carolers. I'm woking on some patriotic decor in my home and this post is inspiring and perfect timing. I'm so sorry for the loss of your friend so close to Joe's passing. Life has certainly shifted for you, and I think it's super important to continue to do the things that bring you peace and joy. XO- MaryJo

  4. Oh, Debbie, I love it all. So clever to keep a faux evergreen garland up all year and to use it as a base for your seasonal garlands. I used to put a garland on my mantel every holiday but my kitties viewed them invitations to climb on the mantel and play. So I have temporarily suspended decorating with garlands. The carolers are so cute!! And I like the use of the sheet music for favorite patriotic songs. One of my favorite things are the plates. They just pop in the midst of the red, white and blue. I am making a rag strip wreath for our front door and just got my 4th of July decorations out today. You are an inspiration and your posts always make me smile. I know your bestie and your hubby are smiling down on you and continuing to enjoy your enthusiasm for decorating from their front row seat in heaven.

  6. I love the ways in which you've used patriotic sheet music to decorate! So original! And your carolers remind me of my mom's collection... a sweet memory, indeed!

  7. How lovely to see all your decorations. I imagine everything in the garden in growing like mad too if you are getting quite a bit of rain! Thanks for joining us at Handmade Monday, it's always such a pleasure to see what you are up to.
