Early Spring Patio and New Fairy Gardens, 2023

 Welcome to Debbie-Dabble Blog!!

I am so happy you decided to stop by!!

I am now posting TWICE  a week !!!

I will be posting on MONDAY and FRIDAY!

As always, click on each picture if you would like to enlarge it....

Today, I will be sharing my Early Spring Patio and a few changes to my Fairy Gardens.......

In my last post, I shared a hidden treasure in our area, The Hudson Model Railroad Club's Train display..

Along with a few more garden projects......

And another Sunset from out Front Porch.....

Click HERE if you missed that post!!

And now for a few Personal Notes...

I made a Sam's Club Chicken the other day for Dinner....

It was so big that it barely fit in the container......

And I will use the bones to make Chicken Soup in the future....

Speaking of soup, I made soup yesterday from the turkey breast from Easter....

It is supposed to be be a cooler week with high's in the high 50's......

I finally finished doing all the yard work and landscaping that I wanted to do to get our outdoor areas ready for the Spring/ Summer....

At least for now, as I am sure that I will come up with more projects as time goes by...

I already did a few projects like extending this area of the Patio.....

Much better now...

Click HERE to see this post if interested....

And I will be sharing some Spray Painting projects as we go along....

I will not be buying any of my annuals until at least the week after May because of the threat of Frost....

Since I live in a townhouse and have a back yard the size of a postage stamp, I dug out the small amount of grass we had a very long time ago, replacing it with flower beds of perennials , covered with mulch....

We had a custom built awning made to cover the patio block of concrete that my Dad put in for us about 40 years ago....

All our lines are underground about a foot off the patio so that is why I used pavers to extend the Patio as they can easily be lifted to gain access to the lines if need be...

I did change a few things around, bought new furniture and got rid of other things...

We will start here in this corner....

On each side of the Patio, right on the edge, are 2 Dwarf Alberta Spruce trees planted in large pots...

This year, since my outdoor Fairy and Gnome Garden things are starting to show the wear and tear from being out in the elements, I decided to split them up and do something a bit different in my big galvanized tub that I have used for my Fairy Garden on the Patio....

I decided to use the small pieces that I normally have used in that galvanized tub in the pots of the spruce trees!!

I placed one of the 2 houses I have left along with a few pieces in this pot....

They will also be a little better protected from the elements...

As I mentioned, I will not plant any annuals until the week after Mother's Day so I have a lot of empty pots right now on the Patio.....

This planter was originally green but was starting to show signs of being out in the elements....

So I gave it a fresh coat of a pretty blue....

I have several cans of this color spray paint so I want to use it up with a few more projects...

I hung a wreath and a basket filled with faux greenery in the corner again....

I moved the post that was on the steps by the back gate here to the Patio and plan on painting it that pretty blue....

I like that I can hang a mason jar with a citronella candle in it there so I can like it in the evening when I sit ot here reading....

For a few ears now, I have hung these wreaths on the windows.....

I covered the original Patio concrete block with outdoor mats from Ocean State Job Lot that cost only $12 a piece.....I have 3...

In a previous post, I shared that I used a chair cushion to create a foot stool from an antique milk crate....

I can store things in here like place mats and magazines, etc....

I call this my sitting area...

I will plant impateins and begonias in the pots under the awning as they do well there....

The back door.....

Many years ago, I got the mullions in the storm door as I wanted it to match the windows...

Another wreath that I added this cute Dollar Tree sign too....

On the extended paver area of the Patio, I put the new table and chairs that I recently bought!!!

I bought the chairs at Big Lot's and the folding table at Home Depot!!

To the right side is a small plant stand...

Since the Patio furniture is all brown now, I made sure to keep the bright colored pots and accessories that I have used in past years....

We do get a lot of Sun on the back Patio area so I use 2 beach umbrellas on the patio paver extension to create a bit more shade....

The other side of the Patio.....

This I call the "working" side of the Patio.....

You can see I still have the green folding table and chair up against the wall as I still have to check to see if any neighbors would want them before we give them to Salvation Army....

I used to call this Joe's Side of the Patio but he seldom ever sits out here anymore....

I decorate the wall in the Patio like I would decorate the walls inside of my house....

I bought the mirror at a yard sale several years ago for $5!!

Last year, we bought the storage chest and I keep garden tools and supplies inside of it....

I store garden supplies and tools here in this corner.....

My "Potting Stand" is a baker's rack that was my neighbor Elly's......

I spray painted it pink for a pop of color.....

And this is the extension of the paver area over on this side of the Patio......

Enlarging this area allowed me to position the galvanized tub that I usually do my Fairy/Gnome Garden in differently......

I decided to do a different display in the tub this year....

I set up part of the Fairy/Gnome Garden from the galvanized tub in the pot of the Dwarf Alberta Spruce on this side of the Patio like I did on the other side....

I decided to put some of my larger Gnome pieces inside of this tub....

I cleaned it all out, threw away the hens and chicks that did not survive the Winter and rearranged the rocks....

I used river rocks and green colored ones from Dollar Tree and threw in some red landscaping rocks....

I used 2 Gnomes that I have normally displayed out in the yard....

In the center, is this large Toad Stool house that I bought at Big Lot's a few years ago...

I surrounded it with green colored gem stones from Dollar Tree....

I filled 2 small pots with hens and chicks....

And I added my Dollar Tree patriotic solar lights....

I do plan on doing some touch up painting....

In putting some of the larger pieces into this tub, I freed up a bit more space in the yard since we have the grand pups often, giving them more space to do their business in the yard area....

I moved this milk can from the back gate area of the yard up here onto the Patio....

I am thinking of spray painting it that pretty blue color...

I also painted this umbrella base which most of the paint had come off of....

This table will also be used as a planting work table....

I will be planting some transplanted perennials and annuals in the pots here....

I hope you enjoyed seeing the new things and changes I made to the back Patio this year....

Now I just hope that we do not have a disgustingly hot Summer like we had last year so I will actually be able to sit out here and enjoy it!!!

On FRIDAY, in my next post, I will be sharing my Early Spring Back Yard....

  4. Gosh, so pretty! You are really on the ball this year. Once you are past the frost date - you are ready to ROAR!
I have already been bitten alive by mosquitos and had infections in three bites on my feet. I am still deciding if I will step outside this summer. I am just a mosquito magnet!!

  5. Debbie, you are lightyears ahead of me when it comes to the yard and getting it ready for spring/summer! Well done! You are so smart to put down pavers, I used to work for an electric company and you are right, underground lines do go bad. Folks just do not think it will happen, but when it does, it can be a headache. Everything has to be dug up to replace unless they installed conduit and fish the wire through. Probably too much info for a Wednesday afternoon, but I like to advocate for our linemen and what they have to go through to keep the lights on. I sure do miss working with those fellas everyday. Hope you enjoy your week!

  6. Debbie, a fun post as usual and I just love your little fairy garden. I did mine in a little wheelbarrow a few years ago and some pesky little squirrel made short work of it so I never put it back together..Keep loving spring..xxoJudy

  7. All your fairy/gnome gardens are so cute! I am tempted to add some to our gardens but... I don't do nearly as well as I should keeping up with my gardens and I'm pretty sure the neighborhood cats would have a field day with any little figures I try to put out. We have some very young and playful ones that are just too cute to stay mad at.

  8. Debbie, you do such a great job with your backyard and fairy gardens. I have tried doing a fairy garden but the squirrels get into them and wreck them! I will be planting my flowers and herbs soon.
