I am a Victorian Soul, who lives in a small townhouse that was built in the mid 1970's, not a huge Mega Mansion!! I just recently lost my Hubby Joe, who was a Retired Letter Carrier. I worked night shift as an RN on a Hospital based Rehabilitation( Physical Medicine) Unit for 37 years before I had Knee Replacement Surgery and officially Retired in 2019 after 41 years working in Direct Patient Care ... I am so glad that we retired at 62 years of age and got to spend that time together before he passed....I still do love Retirement!!!!

Fairy and Gnome Gardens in the Patio and Back Yard, 2021

I am so happy you decided to stop by!!

Today, I will be sharing my Fairy/Gnome Gardens out in the back yard.....

My new camera is supposed to be shipped out on Friday so I am still using my old camera to take pictures and again, I apologize for the quality before hand.....

In my previous post, I shared that I planted my annuals on the Front Porch and Yard......

 

 

I stuck with my red, orange and yellow color theme as I have in past years......

 

 

 And I also shared the explosion of color in the front flower beds with the Azaleas and Rhododendron in full bloom.....

I do want to also share that the phlox are almost done blooming on my slope and now the sedum are starting to bloom.....

 

You can see their dainty yellow flowers.....

 Some Columbine seeds blew into my yard from my neighbor's yard on the end of our row of townhouses......

 

My neighbor Maryann moved last Summer.....

But her perennials that she planted are doing well.....



 I transplanted Columbine that I have blooming in the back yard from ones that reseeded in my yard from hers.....

I hope they continue to reseed and spread over to the left of the slope to help fill in where Joe put weed killer down to prevent the spread of weeds from the house next door that was such a disaster.....


 I also hope to plant some sedum that I will be harvesting from the back yard on the left side of the slope.....

Every year for the past several years, I have had a Fairy/Gnome Garden in a tub on the back patio.....

 

 This year, I decided to extend it into the pots that hold my Dwarf Alberta Spruce Trees on each side of the Patio.....

 

 If you remember last year, I fought a War against the Squirrels that one of my neighbors insist on feeding with bags of whole peanuts, against the rules of our HOA.....

I lost many a Battle and eventually lost the War and a lot of flowers were dug out of my pots and cast aside!!!

 Well, he is still feeding the Squirrels bags of peanuts and they are still burying them in my pots and yard......

Sooooooo...

I came up with a different strategy and so far so good!!!

 

The squirrels really liked digging in any of the big pots that I have and these Tree Pots are the largest ones that I have .....

 

 So I decided to put down a layer of weed block fabric and top off the pot with white Marble Rocks......

 
Since I had an abundance of Fairy Garden things and Joe picked up a bit more for $1.00 a piece at Dollar General.....
 
 
 
 I extended the Fairy/Gnome Garden into the Tree Pot after trimming the Tree of some dead branches around the bottom......
 
 
 


And Guess What??????

The Squirrels have not bothered these pots at all since I put the layer of white Marble Rock down......

I still have my galvanized Garden Tub for my main Fairy/Gnome Garden......


Nothing really new this year except a figure or two from Dollar General.......

I only grow succulents, Hens and Chicks, in this tub as anything else seems to take it over.......

I use green crystals from Dollar Tree to mimic grass......

The houses are from Big Lot's and are solar.....

Blue crystals to mimic a pond.....



Over on the other side of the Patio......

I put white Marble Rocks in this Tree Pot......

And I also trimmed some dead branches around the bottom of the Tree......

Most of these things were bought at Dollar General this year for $1.00 each......

Joe had a coupon for $5 off $25......

 
 
  
 


You can see that I also put some rocks in my other pots......

I will address  that in my next post.....

And I have one more Gnome Garden to share with you......


This year, I set up my larger Gnome Garden in this area.......

Last year, I painted all these pieces and then put a coat of clear sealant on them and they have held up pretty good.....

With purple Ajuga Reptans, Bugleweed growing in the background....

And pink Columbine in front of the garden door that I bought for $3 at a church Flea Market.....

The Gnomes and Toad Stools were bought at Wegman's and Lowe's a long time ago.....

The other perennials are Missouri Primrose which will start to bloom soon.....

The larger Toad Stool House was bought at Big Lot's......


That is sedum growing to the left side that blooms in the early Fall.....



Joe went to Big Lot's after I took these pictures and since he had a $5.00 off $15.00 coupon, he bought this Gnome Stepping Stone which for $5 was actually FREE with the coupon..

    I love your fairy and gnome gardens you made Debbie. I want to make one but I have a squirrel problem. We have someone in the neighborhood feeding the squirrels peanuts! So, I have so many of them digging up my pots with flowers. I've tried sprinkling hot pepper flakes and that doesn't even work. This is the first year in a long time that I don't have a lot of flowers in my yard. :(

    Awe, your fairy gardens are just adorable! I put mine in pots, too. I like the stone idea. I might have to pick some up. My five year old granddaughter started her first fairy garden this year. Her mother has a corner between her house and an enclosed porch that is difficult to mow so she dug it out this year just in time for one of her other grammas to gift her some fairy garden accessories from Family Dollar!

    Your fairy gnome garden is adorable. I've got the little gnomes on my plant table inside and the big ones in the back yard. My sister sent me a couple of gnomes on swings that are hanging in my lilac bush this summer.
