I am a Victorian Soul, who lives in a small townhouse that was built in the mid 1970's, not a huge Mega Mansion!! I just recently lost my Hubby Joe, who was a Retired Letter Carrier. I worked night shift as an RN on a Hospital based Rehabilitation( Physical Medicine) Unit for 37 years before I had Knee Replacement Surgery and officially Retired in 2019 after 41 years working in Direct Patient Care ... I am so glad that we retired at 62 years of age and got to spend that time together before he passed....I still do love Retirement!!!!

My One Little Word for 2021

 Welcome to Debbie-Dabble Blog!!

I am so happy you decided to stop by!!

I want to mention that since Blogger changed to a new format for posting, if you can click on each picture if you care to enlarge it......

Well, here we are again at the beginning of a New Year......

And it is time for My One Little Word for the Year of 2021 post......

Last year, I decided to do something different and choose a Theme for the Year.....

And WOW!!!

Who knew how well that Theme would serve me last year.....

I had chosen POSITIVITY!!!

I chose it because 2019 had been a terrible year for me and it was a very Negative year.....

Click HERE if you want to read about it....

And if I am being honest, 2019 was far worse for me personally than 2020 was....

If you want to read last year's post, please click HERE

I also chose a Word of the Month for each of the 12 months last year and that also served me well.....

If you are curious about what Words I chose for each month, you can access those posts by looking on my Side Bar to the right and clicking on Words of the Months , 2020
 this Pandemic......

You can read that post HERE...

In my last post on this Blog, I wrote about How 20 Years of Health Issues Prepared Me for

This year, I have decided to go back to choosing a Word of the Year along with also choosing a Theme of the Year.....

Today, I will be sharing my Word of the Year.....

It is GRATITUDE

So how is GRATITUDE defined......

grat·i·tude
the quality of being thankful; readiness to show appreciation for and to return kindness.

I have been practicing GRATITUDE for some time now.....
"s

“Gratitude makes sense of our past, brings peace for today, and creates a vision for tomorrow.”

-Melody Beattie

Many years ago, I read Sarah Ban Breathnach's book, Simple Abundance.....

In the book , Sarah talks about finding your Authentic Self....

She advocates keeping a GRATITUDE Journal where at the end of the day, you write down 5 things that you were GRATEFUL for even if one was that you were GRATEFUL that a particularly bad day was finally over with....

This is a quote that was mentioned in the book by American Author, Melody Beattie

Expressing GRATITUDE can change your life.....

It changes your focus from what you do not have to ALL that you do have....

After being told that I had cancer over 13 years ago but it was caught very early and I needed no further treatment beyond the removal of the Grade One Squamous Cell tumor in my right Ureter.....

I became very GRATEFUL!!!!

I was GRATEFUL for the gift of Time that I had been given to spend with my family.....

I felt I needed to show that GRATITUDE so I started to volunteer at our church with various fund raising events......

I became more generous in donating to Church and other Charities....

I also took that Time that I was so GRATEFUL for and did a few things that I always thought of doing but was afraid to ...

Like starting an online Craft Business, started selling my Crafts in local shops and at local Craft Fairs.....

Joining a local Victorian Society...

I wanted to show my GRATITUDE for the Time I had been given by making good use of that Time....

I also stopped "Sweating the Small Stuff"

Another Book that I read was "Don't Sweat The Small Stuff" by Richard Carlson, PHD.

This book teaches one to:

""Live in the present moment"

And

"Live each day as it might be your last"

Again, simply having GRATITUDE that you woke up another morning to face another day......

Because after all, not everyone is given the chance to grow old......

This year, I am reading "Simple Abundance " again.....

It is a Day by Day journey into discovering one self through 6 simple principles with the first one being GRATITUDE

I feel it is something that I need to do in my Retirement and with everything that has gone on in the world over the last year......

I do keep a daily GRATITUDE Journal and have for several years now.....

After last year and the year before, I feel it is even more important to write down what you are GRATEFUL for on a daily basis.....

In 2019, my life was shaken up and rearranged and I did end up in a different "place"

But I feel it was the "Place" that I was always meant to be in and for that I am truly GRATEFUL.......

I do believe that with GRATITUDE, you do become more present.....

You become MINDFUL of everything around you.....

And when that happens, You have more GRATITUDE for what you have.....

And Vice Versa.....

I started this New Year with GRATITUDE that my family is healthy and safe, that we have not lost a loved one to CoVid like so many others have, that financially we have done okay during the Pandemic and we have everything we need......

So have you chosen One Little Word of the Year ????

Are you ready to face this New Year regardless of what it has in store for us?????

Yes, We can do this!!!!

The Medical community say all of this will get much worse before it gets better because of the carelessness of people not heeding the CDC warnings especially during the Holidays.....

I always say that Life is what you make of it, no matter what!!!

I know that things do not change miraculously with the turning of the calendar page to a New Year and New month but how we live and how we handle what is going on in the world is up to us.....

So how will you handle yourself in the New Year?????

Are you going to focus on all that you gave up or lost in 2020 or are you going to forget that and Live in the Present......

We can all strive for this, no matter what.......

And I think that cam be achieved by MINDFULNESS....

Soon, I will be sharing why I chose MINDFULNESS as my Theme for this year.....

Here is a list of other Bloggers who posted about their Word of the Year......

  5. Gratitude is a splendid word for this year and for all years. Long ago I did gratitude journals where I would come up with five things a day. I don't do the journals anymore (although it's such fun to look back on them) but there isn't a night that I don't go to sleep and before I do think which five things I'm grateful for that day. Some are simple -- Lizzie's purr or the fact that she managed five minutes of lap time without squirming or a close parking spot on a rainy day. Some are big -- a good diagnosis or good news for a friend. Or a vaccine. It's SO important to remember and say or write it.

  6. I love your word grateful. That is my word too. I agree we all need to be thankful each day and be grateful for what we do have in our lives. Sometimes being human is hard but there is always something to be grateful for in our lives. I am grateful for a new year and new beginning. Happy New Year. Big Hugs. Kris

  15. Your post is so full of good things! I could linger here for days pondering over all these things you share. Gratitude is something I need to focus on more myself.

Interestingly, I had a cancer scare myself in 2009 that was caught early enough that no treatment was needed after they removed a cancerous polyp. I have to have more frequent colonoscopies as a result (not fun) but I'm grateful that that's the only outcome of it all! I'm very glad you linked up at our One Word linkup. If you write about your word again next month, I hope you'll link again on February 21 with an update on how things are going with it!

  16. We go out into the world in search of our dreams and ideals. Often we put in the inaccessible places what is at hand.

  17. Today there is no lack of reasons to smile and every moment is an opportunity to experience the best sensations in the world. May this day be the stage of the greatest adventures and in the end our hearts are filled with joy.
