I
feel it is a personal Journal that, hopefully, someday, my Twin
Granddaughters will be able to look back on to learn about who I
was....
I will be posting 3 times a week on MONDAYS, THURSDAYS and SATURDAYS....

I
enjoy reading your comments and will return the favor by visiting and

In my last post, I shared How I did with my Goals for the month of April...

And how I am trying to live Intentionally...

Click HERE if you missed that post!!
I had a busy week....
On Monday and Tuesday, I finally finished up changing over the Den from Winter to it's normal non Holiday decor....
Amen!!
I will start sharing what I did in the Den next week...
On Wednesday, I took advantage of the nice cool weather we had and started my attack on the back yard...
It got up to the low 60's which is perfect for yard work....
I decided to not kill myself as I have in all the years prior and only do half of the back yard in a day and not the whole thing in a day...
It was pretty bad after the coldest Winter we had in 10 years here in NEPA...
I will show you the sorry before pictures first.....
This is what the left side of the yard looked like after the Winter......
All my perennials are already starting to pop up....
Weeds were coming up close the the fence on the side....
There were also a lot of weeds along the back fence....
A lot of moss formed on the walkways over the Winter....
Because of the cold and then warm temps, almost all of the brick scalloped border along the walkways popped right out and fell over....
This is what this side looked like after Day One of the clean up....
I pulled out all the weeds and sprayed along the fences with my own Weed Killer concoction....
I raked up the mulch and picked up all the dried leaves and debris from the Winter....
In the back corner of the yard....
I moved this pillar with the sun dial on it closer to the side fence...
I decided to move my Fur Baby Memorial over to this side of the yard...
Definitely a bit more room on this side of the walkway to the arbor.....
Pulled out all the weeds along the back of the fence and sprayed it too...
Columbine and Missouri Primrose are popping up....
This arborvitae has taken a beating over the last 2 Winters, even splitting in 2 because of heavy snow and ice....
I have been using Miracid on it, which is good for evergreens, along with watering it...
I pray I can save it....
Perennials are planted in all the large pots around the yard instead of annuals...
I did a lot of dirt clean up here as it washed down from the slope behind me....
When they ran the lines underground for Xfinity at the end of the Summer, they killed all the vegetation leaving nothing but dirt to wash down into my yard...
There are 2 Rose of Sharon Trees planted in this flower box and I placed an old Kitchen sink faucet inside of it for a bit of Whimsy....
I may plant 1 or 2 impatiens in it..
I pulled out and straightened the scalloped brick borders along the walkway, hammering them back in place using my mallet....
I also swept up a ton of dried leaves in this area and put out my solar lights...
I replaced the zip ties that hold the lattice to the chain link fence that broke in the cold of the Winter....
So this is how it looked after Day One.....
I took a hot shower, 600 mg. of Motrin and sat with a heating pad on my back for that evening....
On Thursday, even though it was a bit hotter and more humid, I attacked the other half of the back yard....
I thanked God that the Sun was not out and it was cloudy!
This is how bad the right side looked after the Winter.....
This area was a bit easier as there was hardly any weeds to pull out.....
And how it looked after Day Two....
I straightened the borders on this side of the walkway to the shed....
Raked up the mulch and put out some of my garden art and the bird bath......

I put out some of my Gnomes and toad stools......

It was a mess back here by the shed....
I almost filled a garbage bag with dried leaves....
I took out and straightened out the scalloped brick borders here too ...
I raked up the mulch in this area too....
I put out the garden art after replacing the zip ties here on this side of the fence, holding it to the chain link fence....
I decided to add some of the faux flowers that I recently bought to this vintage watering can....

Along with a set of fire fly solar lights....
I cleaned up the paver extension of the Patio that I laid a few years ago.....

I put out the furniture here and got the umbrella's out of the garden shed.....
Speaking of the garden shed in the back corner of the yard, I cleaned it out and put all the snow shovels, ice choppers and Ice Melt containers in it for the Summer....
I will be putting colorful pots on each of the chairs once I remove the tarp that is covering the rest of the patio and the front porch furniture against the back of the house....
All my pots for the Patio are stored under that tarp too.....

I added a few faux flowers to this watering can that is painted in the same periwinkle blue as the chairs and table....

I also did the same with this vintage watering can....
The view from the other side of the yard....

And from the other side of the yard....
I took another hot shower, 600 mg. of Motrin and again watched TV that evening with a heating pad on my lower back.....
I still need to add mulch to the yard as I skipped doing it last year...
I will be enlisting the help of my son Jim to carry the bags of red mulch up the steps from my parking lot, through my townhouse and out to the back yard...
I left everything against the back of the house covered by tarps for now as we are supposed to have 4-5 days of showers....
I do have my front porch furniture still out in the back because I am getting sidewalks replaced in front of my house....
So I will be waiting til all that is done so I can clean up the front porch, put the furniture out there and decorate both the back Patio and the Front Porch for the Summer....
I am looking forward to doing that because I can't wait to use all the faux flowers I bought for both of those areas...
I hope you enjoyed seeing how I cleaned up and got the back yard ready for Spring and Summer .....

I hope you will stop by to visit again on MONDAY for my next post!!

Wow- I am impressed!! That is quite the job and you did it all in only two days? It looks fabulous! I hope you take a few days off. I am sure the new sidewalks will be nice when they are done. The process is always hard.
ReplyDeleteI hope the next time you're in the backyard it will be to relax and enjoy all your labor. It looks beautiful. I love the bits of whimsy and all the green. What a precious space. Grab a good book and a cup of coffee and enjoy.
ReplyDeleteYour before and after photos of your yard are amazing! All your hard work's fruition! I'm sure it was a labor or love! I hope after the rain you are able to enjoy your beautiful space! I especially loved the gnomes you added... I'm guessing your sweet Littles will love searching for them! I know mine would!
ReplyDeleteI need to work on some weeding this week. We've been working on the yard and I have planted some flower seeds in some pots and beds. We do have a couple bigger exterior project that need to take place and a few indoor ones too like replacing all of our smoke detectors!

My favorite is the watering can brimming full of colorful flowers. Love the spring and all the greenery. Saw your post at SSPS#359. My shares this time are #88, 90, 91, 92, and 93. Hope you and your readers enjoy!
ReplyDeleteOh my, your backyard garden is heavenly!! I love all the quirky decorations!! It looks like a labor of love, for sure. So glad I found your blog. I retired at age 60 because I wanted to be sure I could spend as much time with my hubby while we had time. He is 6.5 years older than me and had already retired when he reached 60. I'm so fortunate to still have him and we are living our best lives together. I'm so happy that you got to do the same!
ReplyDeleteThanks so much for stopping by!! I am glad that you retired early and are getting to spend time together with your husband....One never knows what tomorrow will bring....Thanks for your kind words...
