I am a Victorian Soul, who lives in a small townhouse that was built in the mid 1970's, not a huge Mega Mansion!! I just recently lost my Hubby Joe, who was a Retired Letter Carrier. I worked night shift as an RN on a Hospital based Rehabilitation( Physical Medicine) Unit for 37 years before I had Knee Replacement Surgery and officially Retired in 2019 after 41 years working in Direct Patient Care ... I am so glad that we retired at 62 years of age and got to spend that time together before he passed....I still do love Retirement!!!!

One Thing Led to a Huge Project, Part 1

Welcome to Debbie-Dabble Blog!!
I am so happy you decided to stop by!!

Happy May!!!

Well, we made it through our first full month of social distancing and Stay at Home regulations....

Soon, I will reveal what my Word for the Month of May is as there is possibly a Light at the End of the Tunnel as we try to emerge from this Health Crisis as a State and as a Nation......

In this post, I will be sharing what I like to call a Snow Ball Project......

You know what I mean, don't you???

One of those projects that is like a snow ball rolling down a hill, getting bigger and bigger.....
But first.......

Thanks, Barb, over at French Ethereal, for featuring my post, Weathering The Storm, We are NOT All in the Same Boat,  as one of her features from last week's Share Your Style Link Party!!
 Thanks so much, Barb!!!!

Thanks, Bev, over at Eclectic Red Barn, for choosing my post, Weathering the Storm but We Are Not All in the Same Boat,  as one of her features from last week's Thursday Favorite Things Linky Party!!
Thanks so much, Bev!!

Please stop by and link up to these great parties!!

And now on to My Personal Notes.....

We are now entering our 6th week of having our son living here with us.....

I have to say that it has really been a JOY and I know that this experience will change our relationship with our son forever.....

Something for which I am ever so grateful for.....

This past week, we had some decent weather which allowed me to get some work done outside....

I was able to set up our little back patio for the Summer.....
We want to buy an out door carpet for the concrete block that my Dad and I laid many years ago....
I originally had a carpet out here but when we adopted our sweet Savanna, she liked to pee on it so we pulled it up....
Several years ago, I did a faux brick paint treatment on it but I did not use a sealer over it.....
The water coming off the awning from snow and ice melting and then reforming as ice on the patio, destroyed the paint treatment over the years.....
I would like to look for a brick colored carpet to match the pavers and bricks that I used to extend the Patio.....
The reason why we could not pour more concrete to extend the Patio is that our electrical lines are underground and run through right off the  concrete block.....
If something ever happened that PPL needed to get to those lines and concrete was poured over them, they would have to jack hammer through it and we did not want that....

In my last post, I shared that I also worked on straightening out the border and pavers and bricks of this "Bump Out"
My table and chair fit perfectly on it and it allows me to use an umbrella for additional shade in a back yard that constantly gets the sun.....
Another project I did this past week was removing all the crystals and pea gravel that were in this yellow beverage tub which I had used over the years as my Gnome Fairy garden.....
I then hauled the tub, which is still good, out to the back of the yard and refilled it with empty soda cans, which I use as a filler for pots so they will not be that heavy, and potting soil so I can plant  annuals inside of it...

I then dragged the galvanized tub from this side of the Patio....
Over to this side of the Patio, cleaning it out and adding some of the crystals from the yellow beverage tub.....
Since I lost some of the pieces to my Gnome and Fairy Garden tubs to the elements over the years, I decided to combine what was left and only do one Fairy Gnome Garden Tub.....
And this is the finished project.....
I will be doing an entire post on this in the future......

While I was working outside in the back, I had some visitors......
We are hoping that the Morning Doves who have built nests in this hanging pot in the corner of the Patio several times will come back and do so again this year.....

One on the arbor.....
And it's mate in the pot...
They have provided us with hours of entertainment in the past and would be a welcome respite during this time......
This crouched down when I approached to take the picture.....

However, they did not remain in the pot.....

One can only hope but we do have a morning dove nest in our Rhododendron out in the front yard.....

On Thursday, it was like a monsoon here and we got 2 1/4 inch of rain in less than 24 hours.....
Seems to be the norm here in NEPA over the past few years.....

One thing is for sure that I am definitely NOT bored and can always find things to keep me busy during this time......

Like what happened when Joe bought this personalized picture, using a Gift Card that our son, Joey, gave him for Christmas......
In the picture are jerseys from Joe's favorite Pittsburgh Pens players and of course, one for him!!!!
# 1 Draft Pick.....Barna!!!
Have to laugh because I don't think Joe knows how to ice skate!!

Joe thought he was being funny when he changed out one of the pictures on my Gallery Wall going up the steps.....
NOT HAPPENING!!!!!
Several years ago, I designed the alcove in our 16' by 20' Master Bedroom as Joe's Pittsburgh corner.....

Joe is an avid Pittsburgh fan whether it be the Penguins, the Steeler's or the Pirates...

This is how it looked at Christmas.....
And this is how it looked after 3 hours of work on a Friday afternoon of re-arranging this area and expanding it over onto another wall, which I will share in another post....
I ended up not only moving pictures but even re-framed a few, cleaned and moved around all those Bobble heads and hockey pucks and even hung a few caps!!
Both Joe and I are quite happy with how this looks now......
Did I mention that Joe was thrilled when I decided to paint our bedroom gold 16 years ago?????

On a wood cabinet under the window that I bought at a yard sale for $5.......
Bought the "Tree" at a Craft Co Op........
Over in the left corner.....
I moved these license plates here from above the closet in the corner.....
 Pittsburgh Steeler Memorabilia.....
You can see that I hung Joe's new acquisition smack dab in the middle .......
I then had to move ALL of the larger Bobble head figures that Joe had over to the shelf on the other wall....
We have had Season Tickets for the Pittsburgh Penguins AHL Hockey Team, the Wilkes Barre Scranton Penguins for almost 20 years now.......
Most of Joe's Collection are Freebies given to Season Ticket Holders....
Did I mention what a pain in the you know what cleaning all those little men is????
I bought those shelves in Michael's and stained them .......
I also changed some things around the desk area.....
This lamp was the first stained glass lamp I bought and when I bought it as a gift for Joe. it was the most expensive lamp in our house....
A replica of the Mohegan Sun Arena where the "Baby" Pens play sits in front of the horse with Penguins on it....
An ornament that I bought for Joe when he was still working as a Letter Carrier....
Even a Penguin's Clock....
A mail box and pictures of Joe rests on top of a Pittsburgh Steeler's place mat that was made by a local crafter friend of mine...
Joe with the Wilkes Barre Scranton Pens mascot, Tux, which we hired to make an appearance at our Church Festival and Flea Market that I used to run.....
And Joe with the Stanley Cup when it made an appearance at the Mohegan Sun Arena by our house...
This stained glass Craftsman style lamp was actually my neighbor Elly's and I thought it had the perfect colors in the shade to be used in this area....
This "Beware of Attack Mail Man " sign always makes me chuckle.....
An this is Joe's special chair that I created for him from an Altar chair that was bought for $5 when a local church that closed down had a Tag Sale.....
I decoupaged pictures on the back of the chair from a Pittsburgh Pens calendar after painting the chair black....
On the other side of the chair, I decoupaged pictures from a Pittsburgh Steeler's calendar....
I re-upholstered the seat of the chair using gold velvet like fabric that I bought at a Thrift Shop....
And a Steelers bed rest that Joe uses on this chair....

I also spray painted a waste basket black and decoupaged pictures of Steeler's and Penguin's on it...
And that ends this post on Joe's corner....
In a future post, I will be sharing the rest of this Snow Ball Project.....
And how that Snow Ball rolled right over to this wall.....
So I hope you will stop by to visit again soon!!

  1. My goodness Debbie, that must be quite the task cleaning all those little figures. What an amazing collection. Take care and stay safe.

  2. Well that's certainly a collection and a half! You're a very understanding wife to have all those collectables sharing your bedroom. I laughed at his little stairway picture joke - it's always nice when you can share a laugh with the person you live with. I also enjoyed seeing your back patio area and loved the pink plant stand - good luck with finding your carpet for the cement area - looks like you're definitely keeping busy during lockdown!

  3. Your back patio is so charming, Debbie! I think I would spend most of every day out there! I hope those dear doves found a perfect home. I'm sorry they left your pot!

  4. I have a chair similar to the one you decorated for the Steelers. My dad found it (actually a pair) at an antique store. He was great with woodworking so he repaired them, refinished them and then reupholstered them with needlepoints my grandmother made. - Margy

  6. That is a sports-enthusiast's dream. You have it so well organized, too! I have to laugh at the picture trade-out...I wonder if I could do the same here and how long it would take Carl to notice. Love the garden, Debbie!
