I am a Victorian Soul, who lives in a small townhouse that was built in the mid 1970's, not a huge Mega Mansion!! I just recently lost my Hubby Joe, who was a Retired Letter Carrier. I worked night shift as an RN on a Hospital based Rehabilitation( Physical Medicine) Unit for 37 years before I had Knee Replacement Surgery and officially Retired in 2019 after 41 years working in Direct Patient Care ... I am so glad that we retired at 62 years of age and got to spend that time together before he passed....I still do love Retirement!!!!

I DABBLE IN A BIT OF THIS AND THAT!!!!

Weathering this Storm, We are NOT All in the Same Boat......

 Welcome to Debbie-Dabble Blog!!
I am so happy you decided to stop by!!

UPDATE: I APOLOGIZE IF YOU ARE SEEING LARGE WHITE BOXES WHERE SOME PICTURES ARE SUPPOSED TO BE...

WE HAVE NOTICED THIS ON MY BLOG AND ON OTHER BLOGS AND I DO NOT KNOW WHY IT IS HAPPENING...

IT IS AN ISSUE ON BLOGGER AND THEY DO KNOW IT IS HAPPENING ON MULTIPLE BLOGS....

HOPEFULLY, IT WILL BE CORRECTED SOON....

Because of this problem of pictures disappearing , I will not do one of my usual Home Decor posts until this situation is remedied.......

Which I hope will be soon......

I did decide to do a different post today........

I hope the few pictures that I have used in this post do not disappear......

I saw that Blogger friend Diana, over at Nana Takes a Break, posted something on Face Book and it really resonated with me.....

I , personally, have not had much in my life change since this health crisis started......

I am a Home Body and for the last 15 months since I stopped working and retired, I truly was only leaving my house about once or twice a week......

Before Retirement, I hated my job so much that I used to try to dream up what crime I could commit so I would get a sentence of House Arrest!!

Now I am finally living my Dream!!!

I have NEVER said that I am "stuck" at or "cooped up" at home......

As far as my family, Joe and our sons and DIL are still working and receiving pay checks.....

None of them are anxiously waiting for Unemployment checks or worried about how will they feed their family...

In fact, Joe, Jim and Danielle are all getting paid $2.00 more an hour for working in "essential" businesses.....

Joey is able to work from home and just got a very nice bonus before all of this started.....

The stimulus checks that Joe and I will receive will be put away to pay our taxes in July now that they have extended the deadline for filing your income tax and for about the past decade we have had to pay and not gotten money back....

So yes, my family's Boat is sailing just fine ..

While other's boats have shipwrecked.....

So before you judge and some rant and rave on social media about Government Regulations being lifted or not lifted.........

Maybe we all should put ourselves in the other person's shoes.......

From Diana's Face book post.......

There is a lot of truth in this~I saw this and thought it was worth reposting.

"WE ARE NOT IN THE SAME BOAT ...

I heard that we are all in the same boat, but it's not like that.

We are in the same storm, but not in the same boat.

Your ship could be shipwrecked and mine might not be. Or vice versa.

For some, quarantine is optimal. A moment of reflection, of re-connection, easy in flip flops, with a cocktail or coffee. For others, this is a desperate financial & family crisis.

For some that live alone they're facing endless loneliness. While for others it is peace, rest & time with their mother, father, sons & daughters.

With the $600 weekly increase in unemployment some are bringing in more money to their households than they were working. Others are working more hours for less money due to pay cuts or loss in sales.

Some families of 4 just received $3400 from the stimulus while other families of 4 saw $0.

Some were concerned about getting a certain candy for Easter while others were concerned if there would be enough bread, milk and eggs for the weekend.

Some want to go back to work because they don't qualify for unemployment and are running out of money. Others want to kill those who break the quarantine.

Some are home spending 2-3 hours/day helping their child with online schooling while others are spending 2-3 hours/day to educate their children on top of a 10-12 hour workday.

Some have experienced the near death of the virus, some have already lost someone from it and some are not sure if their loved ones are going to make it. Others don't believe this is a big deal.

Some have faith in God and expect miracles during this 2020. Others say the worst is yet to come.

So, friends, we are not in the same boat.

We are going through a time when our perceptions and needs are completely different.

Each of us will emerge, in our own way, from this storm.

It is very important to see beyond what is seen at first glance.

Not just looking, actually seeing.

We are all on different ships during this storm experiencing a very different journey."

  1. Thank you for printing this, Debbie. i am like you and don't mind being isolated for a period of time. While I love to travel, I also love being home and puttering. lol That piece really resonated with me, also--lest we forget that some of us are living in relative comfort, others struggle treading water to keep afloat. God bless all of us as we go through this together. xo Diana

  2. Debbie, great post. Everyone is not in the same boat. I feel for so many who are suffering. No money, possibly lack of food. This has taken a toll on so many lives. Take care.

  4. We did receive our stimulus checks. However it looks like we will owe the same amount or more in copays for my broken arm. The quarantine boat was a lifesaver for me. My husband has been able to devote all his time to taking care of me and the house and the lack of visitors means I don't have to wear anything except baggy pj's and uncombed hair. As much as I love my tiny grandchildren under foot normally, they have not been here to bump into me. I am blessed.

  5. You bring up some very important points. I donated a big chunk of my stimulus check -- others needed it more than I. Meanwhile, I follow the rules and do my best to help others while flattening the curve. We can't do it as any one person but collectively, yes.

  6. I agree with so many of the comments above, and most especially with the overall message of your post. Like many, this quarantine has been heaven for me. I am working from, and I am receiving a paycheck. It will likely be less it is normally, but I am prepared and feel confident finanacially. My cats and husband have loved having me home so much. I have so much time to pursue goals and projects and ideas. So I am grateful for this opportunity to be with my family for as long as it lasts. The last good piece is that I am retiring early next year, so this has helped this year speed by even more quickly. I do feel very badly for those who have been devastated by this, and I wish there was more that could be done.

    1. Kristine,
I hear you!! Nothing much has really changed for me since I stopped working last year to have my knee replacement surgery and then retired. I LOVE being home and was really only going out about once or twice a week before the Stay at Home order. Our son has been living with us for the first time in 10 years and I have enjoyed having him here... I am cooking a bit more but otherwise, not much has changed for me.....Thanks so much for stopping by!!Congrats on your retirement!! You will LOVE it!!
      Hugs,
      Debbie

  7. Right you are. Not everyone or everyone's situations should be painted with the same brush. Being outside is what I have been doing more of and my grandchildren. It's healthier to be in sunshine and exercising. My grand kids came by Friday. The father and mother work, some days home, some days not. Thank God so far all is well, but who knows? We flew kites we planted flowers and put up a fence with Opa. No gloom and doom. Sick of it and a little laughter and fresh air never made anyone sick. We kept hands clean and no coughing on anyone, besides being outside and an allergy cough is better than being cooped in a closed up house. Good post and I reposted the few pictures, so far still there but blogger is really messed up and I don't want to make a habit of reposting pictures either. Happy Week to you, betsy

  9. Enjoyed your post! My SO and I have had several conversations about how lucky and grateful we are, 2 Social Security checks and a pension coming in as usual. My son and daughter are working from their homes. I am working on crafts more than usual and glad I have such a hoard of supplies! I do miss going shopping, but, hey, I can work on getting my credit cards paid down with no new charges on them! Now, if I could only get the umph to tackle some spring cleaning!

  11. I am like you, Debbie. Both my husband and I are retired, so our day-to-day lives have not changed that much. Of course, we miss seeing our friends and we miss our grandchildren a lot! we were supposed to be visiting our grandson who lives 2000 miles away this week but of course, our trip was canceled. Thank you for this reminder to count our blessings.

  12. you are oh so right and while I have never thought about it that way you are exactly right. I myself along with 3 of my adult children are all on the front lines as nurses. We take care of those that need love and hope that others do not get sick. We are careful when we come home, change our clothes, get our showers and try to enjoy time off only to return the next day. I too hope that it does not last long but to tell you the truth I love the little ones in my life and want them to be protected as well just like the rest of the world wants their children cared for so whatever is right or wrong I pray for safety

  13. Debbie, Thank you so much for your post and essential reminder for all of us. Like your boat, ours has been even keel. And what a blessing it is as all in our family recognize. My heart is with everyone whose boat is more rocky. I really appreciate this community of kind hearts that I find on your blog. Please keep it up and know that you are providing solace. My Best, Jen

  15. What a great reminder, Debbie. I saw a post on FB similar to this that said, "We aren't in the same boat. Some of us are on a yacht and others are in a canoe with holes in it." We all need to be mindful of how this is impacting those in different boats than we are.Glad to read that you and your family are doing well.

  16. I really appreciate your post toda, Debbie. Everyone's boat is different through this, i wish more people got that! I am homeschooling my son. He is on the autistic spectrum, so things work a bit differently for him than other children. I got a bit frustrated today with our lesson today, I just had to breathe. Remember, I am fortunate that I have good internet access and a laptop. A lot of children don't even have that. Celebrate what you have and be grateful too.

  17. I had the disappearing pictures too. I re-uploaded the ones I caught. Great post, Debbie. If I can live in the moment instead of thinking about the "what ifs", I'm fine.
