A Project That "Snowballed"

 Welcome to Debbie-Dabble Blog!!

I am so happy you decided to stop by!!

ATTENTION!!!

I will now be posting only 2 times a week again !!!

Since the Holiday Season is almost over ( Only Easter left) for me, I am dropping back down to 2 posts a week...

I will admit that 3 posts a week has been grueling and very time consuming and even stressful for me....

I was also told that 3 posts a week is hard to keep up with for some of my readers and I can understand that as I find that happening with myself in reading Blogs....

So, I will be posting on MONDAYS and FRIDAYS unless I am participating in a special Blog event....

I will see how that works out for me....

As always, click on each picture if you would like to enlarge it....

Today, I will be sharing a project I did....

In my last post, I shared a few more Valentine's Crafts that I did and some New Buys....

Click HERE if you missed that post!!

I have been working on a project that I started last year so to speak......

It all started at Christmas when I decided to move the mirrors that normally hung above my cherub shelves in the Living Room so I could hang Christmas hoops I made.....

I moved the mirrors to the soffit above the window dividers.....

I really liked them there as they reminded me of transom windows above doorways in older homes.....

Just that one thing lead to a project that "Snowballed" !!

So I kept the mirrors there.....

And I hung the 2 pictures that were there before Christmas back up.....

But now I had to come up with something to hang above the Cherub shelves since I took down the Christmas embroidery hoops........

So I hung these 2 pictures that were hanging on the wall by the large curio above the shelves.....

The "Snowball" is now starting to roll down the hill......

I decided to move a mirror and a large Victorian Lady picture from the Gallery wall going up the stairs to the wall on the side of the Curio where I took the 2 pictures from.....

I like the way it looks as it goes well with the 2 smaller Victorian Lady pictures on the opposite wall.......

Now I also had to find a place to hang the 2 cherubs that hung where the mirrors now are on the soffit......

I hung them on each side of the Hutch above the brass fans....

So that those was all taken care of, I still had 2 spaces on the Gallery Wall where I took the large Victorian Lady picture and mirror from....

Can you see that "Snowball" getting bigger as it rolls down the hill......

Let's go back to late August of last year when I framed these.....

I am BLESSED to have my parent's First Holy Communion Certificates and their Wedding Certificate....

My intention was to create another Gallery Wall, on the opposite side going up the stairs, using these and other family pictures and documents....

I figured this would be my opportunity to take everything that was on the wall on that side of the stairs off and decide what I was going to do with them....

I did just that and started filling in and rearranging the pictures on the wall that you could see from the Living......

My inspiration for this wall, which I did a long time ago, was the Frederick Stegmaier Mansion, right here in Wilkes Barre.....

I used to belong to a Victorian Society that frequently, not only had it's meetings at the Mansion, but my friend Lisa, who headed the group, frequently assisted and presented programs at the Mansion as part of the Specialty Tea's the Mansion held and I attened....

We also stayed there for a weekend in celebration of our Wedding Anniversary once....

The walls  on the 3 flights of stairs are used to display all kinds of pictures as was the style in Victorian times....

Many years ago, I began collecting pictures that I found at yard sales, estate sales and flea markets, mostly Home Interiors pictures, that went with my color theme of peach and aqua in the Living Room....

I could not find a picture of what it looked like before I rearranged and moved most of the things that were on the opposite wall over....

But this is now what it looks like.....

I moved the picture with the chair and the 2 porch pictures over from the opposite wall.....

Along with some metal flower plaques....

The painting of my 2 fur babies was a gift from a very talented Blogger, who painted both our Cassie and Savanna together after we lost our sweet Savanna......

I bought a frame and hung it so it framed the canvas painting....

Looking down from the top of the stairs......

I took down and cleaned everything from the 2 walls and was able to create a new look to the Gallery wall on this side of the stairs.....

One of my projects that I hope to get down in the Spring is to paint the wood work going up the stairs along with removing the wall paper border in the upstairs hall, paint the hall and all the wood work around the 3 bedroom and bathroom doors......

Now I know there are all kinds of tutorials out there on Pinterest and You Tube on how to do a Gallery Wall using templates and other things.....

I have always just "eyeballed" it.....

And I am happy with the end result of a project that started with me moving 2 mirrors at Christmas....

And "Snowballed" into affecting 5 different walls!!

And that "Snowball' keeps rolling and getting bigger because now I have to do something with this wall......

All that was left on this wall that I did not use was that plate....

I have been going through some of the pictures and photo albums that were my Mother's....

I will be hanging these on this wall...

Which were written in Polish....

I will also be adding some of these pictures.....

Definitely some photos of my parents wedding....

Since I also will be framing my Dad's Army Discharge Papers and a letter from President Harry Truman, I will also frame these pictures....

And my Mother's First Holy Communion Picture.....

When looking through all my Mother's photos, I came across these vintage Cabinet pictures of my Dad's family's Weddings....

My Uncle John and his first wife, Henrietta..

My Uncle Joe and Aunt Helen with my Uncle Lenny as Best Man and cousin Jackie in between them

My Uncle Midge and Aunt Mary

My Uncle Lenny and Aunt Margie with my Uncle Joe as Best Man

And my Aunt Helen and Uncle Jackie with my Aunt Della as Maid of Honor and cousin Pete as Ring Bearer

Again, that "Snowball" kept on rolling and getting bigger.....

I then reached out to several cousins who responded that they would love to have these pictures of their parents....

So Joe went down to Staples and bought Mailer envelopes and I will be sending out 4 of the 5 pictures to my cousins.....

I have $75 in Michael's Gift Cards from my son Jim and DIL Danielle so I will be checking out frames for what I decide to hang on the "new" Gallery wall on the opposite side of the stairs.....

So that "Snowball" keeps rolling and growing....

  1. I love the inspiration wall of photos by the stairs, I need to do mine, which right now only has 2 photos on it. You have some lovely photos to display. I agree that posting 3 times a week is gruelling. I took a break from posting and social media after Christmas and have just started to get back into posting again. Our weather has been so changeable since Christmas. We just had ice rain overnight in the week and everything glistens in the sun now. I'm waiting patiently for spring. Have a lovely weekend.

  2. That snowball happens here quite often. LOL! I always hate to start a project that involves decorating or cleaning a closet as it always leads to more and more and more. Oh darn that snowball!

  3. So wonderful to share the wedding photos with their descendants! I can't wait to see the new wall. I love vintage photos and family photos are so special. And the certificates will look wonderful with them. I have my parent's wedding certificate, too (they sure don't make them like that anymore!). I need to get it framed.

  4. Isn't it funny when you begin with one simple change and like you said, it snowballs. I have to say, I love the black and whites! I would be hanging those everywhere. I wish I had more photos of our family so I could display them. I try to surround us with memories, a memento from a trip, or pics from a special day. I love seeing those items, I just recently began changing out a picture on our wall with the seasons, and I have to say it has been nice for a change of pace every season, but those black and whites keep calling my name... thank you for sharing!

  6. I like you have to eyeball things. I guess with me is just wanting to get on with it. Love how you placed all of your portraits and pictures. I need to have some pictures hung and need to do it soon. Love the ships on stormy seas pictures, always have like the ones hanging in the Mansion you visited. Great idea for your mirrors like transoms. I have some mirrors like that and now you have given me an idea for mine. More light reflection in my home will be good. Your curio with stained glass at top is pretty. I like that.
I wanted to post at least three times a week but as you can see it has been few and far between. I think I will do more but do shorter posts. Happy Sunday to you, Betsy

  12. I've always loved picture walls, especially family photographs or paintings. Our stairwell isn't well suited for this but it is a wonderful way to keep family around you.
