Can you believe that Easter was this past weekend ???????
I hope you were able to spend it with those you love whether that was in person or virtually via zoom....
As the Numbers continue to go up Nationwide, especially that of those Hospitalized and in ICU's ,which are the only numbers I really am concerned with, we can not let our guard down......
On Friday, our son, Joey, treated us to dinner from one of our favorite places, Valley Seafood.....
Joe's eyes are always bigger than our stomachs so he also got fish sticks and a crab cake for us to split.....
And chicken fingers for Joey as he does not like fish.....
It was a great meal!!
I was up at 6 am cooking on Saturday and had the boneless ham in the oven......
Eggs for deviled eggs boiling on the stove......
And 3 rings of kielbasi waiting to boil in water on the stove before browning it a bit in some oil.....
These were all done by the time, 8:30 am, Joe and I had to leave to let our Grand Pup Little Faye out as her Mom and Dad were at work....
When we got back home, I made my Dad's recipe for Sausage Filling.....

I sliced the ham.....
And cut the kielbasi up....
And made the Deviled Eggs.....
I was finished by 11 am!!
After having to usually work the entire weekend of Easter as it was not considered a Holiday and it seemed to fall on my weekend to work more often than not, I had developed a system for cooking my family dinner because I had to work.....
Even though I am retired, that system still serves me well and helps everything go much smoother.....
On Friday, I had made Toll House cookies because I had a bag of the Ghirardelli Semi Sweet Chocolate Chips left over from Christmas......
Again, keeping with my Goal of not spending money on things that I do not need, I shopped by own home and decided to use up these pans that Joe bought for one reason or another.....
I filled them with some of the home made cookies and some candy and lottery tickets as a little Easter something for Jim, Danielle and Joey....
Sunday morning, I put the Bird ( 7 pound turkey breast) in the oven.....
I set a simple tablescape for Easter as I have to have room for all the food.....
I later moved the goodies, which I placed on my vintage pink depression glass dishes off the table, so I could put the food on the table...
The white dinner plates with the gold trim were bought on clearance at The Christmas Tree Shop for a Buck a piece!!!!
And of course, the highlight of our day was having little Faye come over with her Mom ad Dad for Easter dinner!!!
She stays in her play pen while we eat.....
She loves to sit up on the ottoman and you can see Uncle Joey adores her!!
We had a wonderful Easter Sunday, celebrating with our family.....
We have been very Blessed during this Pandemic that we were able to continue all our Holiday traditions like we always have and that includes Holiday dinners with our family of 5....
I will be leaving up all my Easter/Spring decorations for most of the month of April....
So is it just me or is this year really going by quickly?????
Okay, maybe it is just me because I always seem to be so busy but I do like it that way.....
After Easter, the Holiday Season is over....
At least for me, it will be...
I have mentioned before that I consider the Holiday Season from Fall/Halloween until Easter because that is the time that I am constantly changing the house, decorating for all the Holidays that fall during that time......
After Easter, I finally get a break from all of that.....
Don't get me wrong...
I LOVE being able to change the look of the house by decorating for the different Holidays and Seasons and it certainly keeps me from getting bored!!!!
And even though I will decorate for the Summer Patriotic Holidays and also do the Living Room in my late Summer "Under the Sea" theme after July 4th, it is a time where I will have more Time!!!!
With that realization, I now know that Time will be the Time for me to be creative!!!
This is the time that I need to look at what I want to craft for all the different Holidays and just create some things for me and my home.....
Yes, I will be busy out in the yard and with all my flowers in the Summer but it is a relaxing time for me when I am not hauling things up and down from the attic and changing most of the house over every 4-6 weeks.....
I guess with the realization that I really have no time to craft during the actual Holiday Season, which as I mentioned is from September until April, I also need a place to be able to do this in.....
Yes, I have a Craft Room but up until January, it looked like this......
After completing my huge photo organizing project, I was finally able to take that table down.....
I also was finally able to change over the room, packing away Christmas decorations, which were still up, to my "normal" things in that room......
And then the "Might as Well's" hit.........
You know the "Might as Well's......
When you do one project, you look around and think to yourself "Well, I might as well do this and that"....
Yep!
Doesn't that happen every time?????
So since it was Easter week and I did not want to get into taking down Christmas in the upstairs Sitting Room, which is the last room upstairs that is still decorated for Christmas.......
I decided that this was the perfect time to attack another HUGE project on my 2-3 Year To Do List post retirement......
You know that list.....
The one that will take me at least 2-3 years to do all the projects that are on it?????
SO.......
Since I did go through and purge all the craft supplies that I knew I would not be using and passed them on to my FB friend, Angela.....
That then lead to me reorganizing all the tubs and places that I store all my supplies in......
I felt I should just spend the week, continuing in the Craft Room after taking down Christmas....
That meant cleaning.....
Taking down the curtains which I am quite embarrassed to even admit how long they hung on that window for.......
I cleaned the window, washed the pink drapes and hung different white curtains.....
And the "Might as Well's" continued.....
I will be sharing what I did in my Craft Room and the finished project in my future posts.....
So.....

Your Easter dinner looks wonderful! When my kids were little, my husband's days off were Thursday and Friday. He worked for the railroad (for 44 years) and Easter is not a Holiday there either -Good Friday is the holiday. So we always celebrated with our children on Friday so dad was there.
ReplyDeleteI have some of those cooking techniques for working women, too. I have a sauerkraut ball recipe which divides the steps into 4 days so that I could do a little every night after work and have them ready to go on New Year's Eve. I call them a Working Woman's Guide to Sauerkraut Balls. After the third day, they can be frozen, too, so I would make hundreds for our large family and treats during playoff football games.
You prepared such an Easter feast and those bunny plates are very cute. How good to have family together. My adult sons live in the same city as me and they were excited to attend Easter services inside our church. It was the third week of indoor services, the young 40 year old new pastor and the worship praise/rock band and all of us were energized. We had roast leg of lamb. I like your craft room, nice to have a separate room for that.

ReplyDeleteWhat a pretty Easter table you set for your family. Nice that you don't have to spend a fortune to set a pretty table. And the tree glowing in the corner. Very nice. You certainly spoiled your family with all that good food you cooked. Glad you'll be getting a little break from all the holiday decorating. I'm sure it's a lot of work.

It sounds like your Easter celebration was just delightful and seeing your photos took me back to the days when my mother used to cook amazing meals and the family would gather. Thank you so much for bringing back those memories , Deb. Your craft room is so beautiful and I am sure you have spent many hours of enjoyment in their. ReplyDeleteGreat post Debbie. Been a while. Seems like I have been keeping so busy I just have not been into the blogs much at all. Love that you mentioned the pink depression glass. I love mine and would love to use for the holidays but George says the plates are too small. So glad you could be with your family for Easter. Just one daughter and her friend here for Easter dinner. The family has just gotten way to big for us to be altogether at this time, especially since several of the daughters & granddaughters are in the medical and social worker fields. Still adding to the family with #14 and 15 Great GRands coming in May and August. Goth little girls. We stay pretty much at home. Dr. appointments and grocery shopping ever few weeks and that is the extent of our going out. Michigan numbers are really rising and we are not taking any chances. George is waiting for the vaccine and being I am allergic to several vaccines including the flu vaccine Dr. said I can not have it so I am extra cautious. Hope that you and you family have stayed well.
ReplyDeleteYour always my first stop for inspiration when a holiday is approaching. This is actually one of my favorite decorating times I like to call Flag Season. Seems like all the holidays after Easter are appropriate flag flying season. So from Easter, there's Memorial Day, 4th of July, and even Labor Day, and Veteran's Day...all of which the good ole Red, White and Blue are a common theme. I'm collecting all the flags out of the boxes I've had packed up since my move and putting them up and going to enjoy the flag season.
