A Gentleman's Dresser

 Welcome to Debbie-Dabble Blog!!
I am so happy you decided to stop by!!

Today, I will be sharing a post that I took pictures for some time ago and actually forgot about because I was so busy with doing porch, patio and garden posts......

July has been an absolutely horrific month as far as the heat and humidity are concerned here in NEPA!!!!

Several heat waves which is a minimum of 3 days over 90 here....
Humidity in the TROPICAL range with 90 degree temps. making it feel like over 100 degrees.....

Now I know some of you live in the South and have this all the time but personally, I have no idea how in God's Name you can survive heat like this!!!!!

I have been closed up in the house with the shades drawn to keep the hot sun out and the air conditioning blaring!!!!

I never felt "stuck" at home and "cooped up" during this whole pandemic until July reared it's ugly head!!!!

I pray August is not like July......

I need to be able to get outside and do some work in the Garden and clean up the Patio and Front Porch a bit but until this heat breaks, that is not going to happen!!!

I have several painting projects I would like to get done but because of the humidity, I can not even think about painting because there would be drying issues!!!

Before I get on with this post.......

I want to Thank, Karren, over at Oh My Heartsie Girl, for featuring my post, Family Vignettes in My Craft Room,  from last week's Wonderful Wednesdays linky Party!!!
 Thanks so much, Karren!!!!

Thanks , Katie, over at Let's Add Sprinkles, for featuring my post, Summer Tea Party Tree in my Craft Room  from last week's Let's Keep in Touch Linky Party!! she particularly liked my tea cup nest ornaments!!
Thanks again, Katie!!

I want to Thank Mom of 3 , over at Slices of Life, for featuring my post, A Bit of This and That and a Graduation Party from last week's Encouraging Hearts and Home Link Party!!!
Thanks so much!!

Thanks to Amber, over at Follow the Yellow Brick Home, for choosing my post, A Bit of This and That and a Graduation Party, as one of her features from last week's Thursday Favorite Things Link Party!!
Thanks again, Amber!!

Please stop by and link up to these wonderful parties!!

You may remember that I did 2 posts about one thing leading to a Huge Project back in the beginning of May!!!
Joe added a new Hockey Memorabilia picture to his collection that lead me to rearrange this wall in his Pittsburgh corner in our bedroom....
Click HERE if you missed that post......

He had accumulated so much Pittsburgh Sports "Stuff" that it spilled over to this wall in our bedroom......
Click HERE if you missed that post...
Now our Bedroom is decorated in the Victorian Era fashion that I love and have a passion for......
Before Joe's Pittsburgh sports memorabilia spilled over onto this wall, I had tried to incorporate a bit of masculinity into our bedroom because it truly is a Victorian Lady's bedroom......
Several years back, I had been on the look out for Victorian things of a Male nature so I could accessorize the dresser that Joe uses......
I was pretty successful in that quest......
I was able to create a "Gentleman's Dresser"  for Joe to go with the Victorian theme!!
A plaque that we bought while in Atlantic City one year that explains the origins of our last name hangs above the dresser.....
And his Pittsburgh corner is reflected in the mirror of the dresser!!!
When I added Joe Pittsburgh Sports things to this wall, I took this silk Pittsburgh Penguins scarf that Joe had bought for me on his last trip out to Pittsburgh with our son, Joey, and draped it over the large round mirror of the dresser.......
The furniture in our bedroom is my Mother's vintage Waterfall bedroom set that was bought for her by her parents when she was 16 years old...

It is now 85 years old as my Mother would be 101 years old this year......

When I was a teenager, it was my bedroom furniture but I wanted a "French Provincial" bedroom set.....

My parents could not afford it as they had bought themselves a new bedroom set and gave my Mother's to me to use.......

My Dad refinished the bedroom set in an antique stain to make it look like a "French Provincial" set for me!!

This set will be passed on to my Great Niece Caitlin who loves it and also loves the finish on it......

My Dad would be thrilled!!!

So this is Joe's Gentleman's Dresser........
I used large brass candlesticks from Home Interiors to  display hats on each side of the dresser.......
The hat on this side of the dresser was one worn by Joe when we went to a Roaring 20's party at the Frederick Stegmaier Mansion here in Wilkes Barre several years ago......

I was able to find antique photos of Gentlemen at several Flea Markets in the area and they became "Instant Relatives" as I like to call them...
I bought the wood frames at yard sales......
A pipe, a shaving brush and my Dad's handkerchief.......
A vintage razor and shoe stretchers.......
In the center is a mirror and a jewelry box........
A bow tie and pocket watches hang from the mirror.......
More shaving brushes......
I decoupaged the graphic on to the top of the wooden jewelry box......
A top hat on this side of the dresser that Joe wore to a party when we belonged to a local Victorian Society.....
More "Instant Relatives".......
The handkerchief has a "K" embroidered on it as I was my Dad's and the K is for the first letter of my maiden name......
Another vintage razor and a wooden hand mirror that I also decoupaged a graphic on to.....
And that is my attempt to add a bit of masculinity to our otherwise very Victorian Lady looking bedroom!!!!
As you can see by the chandy above the bed and the mannequin over by the window,.......
And from the top of the TV Entertainment Center.......
I do plan on sharing the entire bedroom in a future post.......

So I hope you will stop by to visit again soon!!

Stay safe, healthy and most of all, HAPPY!!

  1. I totally agree with your assessment of the weather. I call it "stinking hot". The other day we had a minute of rain as I left for physical therapy. I looked at my car and it told me it was 77 degrees. I got out at the hospital and just about melted. The "feels like" temperature was almost 90! What kind of humidity is that!!!

  5. We've had that same heat, although now that I'm back at the lake, it has been cooler and breezy (which makes it seem even cooler!) Hang in there.

I don't think Rick could cope with that dresser! He wouldn't have any room to put his stuff at the end of the day! But some lovely things there.

  7. I love your "instant relatives"; I am always on the lookout for tiny pix for the dollhouse people's instant relatives! Glad that Joe has some collections! His sports memorabilia is beautifully arranged.
