A Sunset, a Dance Recital, Geese, a Ground Hog and a New Bird Bath

Welcome to Debbie-Dabble Blog!!

I am so happy you decided to stop by!!

Some how time got away from me and I realized that I should have had a post ready........

OOOPS!!

It is not like I don't have all the time in the World now!!!!!!

In my last post, I updated you on my recovery from my Knee Replacement Surgery and the changes I have had to make to goals I set in the beginning of the year because of my One Little Word for 2019 which is FOCUS and a decision that I will have to make soon......
Click HERE if you missed this post....

I also spoke about needing to work on Time Management which will be another post in the future......
Hence, this post is a bit of This and That........

But first, I want to Thank Bev, over at The Eclectic Red Barn, for featuring my post, My Cottage Garden, from last week's Over The Moon Linky Party!!
Thanks so much, Bev!!

Please stop by and link up to this lovely party!!!

We had been getting a lot of rain like many other parts of the country....

We had a few nice days and then the rain started again last Wednesday night......

Before it stopped on Friday morning........
We had gotten close to 2.5 inches of rain.......
Last year, the glass gauge of my rain gauge broke but I was lucky enough to order a gauge from Amazon that fit perfectly in the stake from the old one.....

One sure sign of Summer is the arrival of The Amish Farmer that sets up several stands at the Mini Market right down the road from us....

He sells the best tomatoes and baked breads among many other items.........
These are baked at an Amish Bakery.....
They are 2 for $6.00!!

When the rain ended, we were treated to a wonderful Sunset.........
We are lucky enough to be able to sit on our front porch and witness some amazing Sunsets in the Summer months.....
On Saturday, we were thrilled to be able to attend the Dance Recital of our Great Niece, Caitlin!!!

Here she is in the dressing room before performances........
Caitlin participated in 3 Dance Numbers......

She does Balliet......

The first one was to the song " Summer Highland Falls"
She also danced to the music of Prince's "Purple Rain"
And the third dance number was to Elvis's "Jailhouse Rock"..
And the Finale Bow.......
And here she is outside the F.M. Kirby Center in down town Wilkes Barre where the recital took place......
Did I mention that Caitlin is 14 years old??????

These are her sisters Cortney, 17 and Carly, 10.......
And me and my niece Renae, mother to these 3 lovely girls.....
I mentioned before about my nephew, John, having cancer......

He was not able to attend the recital as he is currently hospitalized but was able to watch Caitlin's performances because of Cortney face timing with him........

Without going into detail, I am asking for your prayers as he faces surgery in the morning.....

He is fighting so hard against this terrible disease....

A new store opened near us called Ocean Job Lot, which is a Rhode Island based Close Out store......
The one that opened literally 5 minutes away from our home is the first in Pennsylvania and opened in an old Toy R Us store.....

It is an amazing store filled with such a variety of merchandise including clothes......

Is anyone familiar with this store and could you tell me if they do Clearance sales???????

One of the things I bought was this pretty glass bird bath since the one I had for a few years cracked last Winter......
It looked solid pink in the box but when the Sun hits it......
It appears pink and blue and you can see the swirl design......... It was $19.99!!

Now I just hope that it isn't too pretty for the Birds.......
Joe went down to Target and on the road into the shopping center where the store is , this is what he saw.....
He actually got out of the car to stop the bus that you see in the right side of the picture to let the geese cross the road...

I guess they then thought they would do some shopping at Target!!
Another animal, but one I am not happy about.....

This ground hog was seen coming out of my neighbor's yard....
This neighbor insists upon putting peanuts out for the squirrels even though he has been told by our Home Owner's Association not to do so!!!!

I found peanuts buried in all my pots before I planted the annuals in them!!!!

I am now realizing that this big boy is probably gnawing the petunias in this pot ......
And this lily, down to nothing!!!
I put some chicken wire around both so hopefully it will save them from a hungry critter!!!

And that is the end of my post about This and That!!!

I hope you will stop by to visit again soon!!

Thanks to those who took the time out of their busy day to spend a little bit of time with me!!

  1. Oh my Debbie, you've had a really interesting few days. I hope John's surgery went well. Cancer is such a horrible disease. How I wish that they could find a cure. He'll be in my prayers.

That sunset is stunning, it's almost as if the sky was celebrating a few rain free hours and putting on her best display. Good on Joe for stopping the bus to let the geese through. I would have loved to see that, so special. Hope your trick with the wire around the plants work to keep the ground-hog away. Are they dangerous?

  2. Hey Debbie!
How very special that your grand niece performs ballet! Such talent...
The sunset pictures are beautiful and glorious for y'all to behold...and a big pat on the back to Joe for stopping that bus!
Last week I spent a few days with my sister near Greenville and we went to a Farmer's market where we found delicious freshly baked scones plus lavender. Don't you just love buying local items, and talking to the vendors?
Your nephew, and family, will be in my prayers.
    Blessings, Linda

    1. Linda,
I love going to see our niece in her recitals because being a Mom to 2 boys, I never got to enjoy things like that. It breaks my heart that those 3 girls have to watch their Dad, my nephew, fight so hard battling cancer...But I am proud to say that it has made them stronger. The older 2 are at the top of their class...The baked good and tomatoes that we get from the Amish Farmer are the best!!Thanks so much for stopping by!! I hope you enjoy the 4th of July Holiday!!
      Hugs,
      Debbie

  5. Oh I pray that your nephew recovers soon and quickly. So sweet of you to attend your great-nieces recital. She is beautiful I might add. Girl, those sunset pictures are beautiful! WOW! Isn't it nice to be able to buy local. I also love fresh baked goodies or produce. Hugs and blessings, Cindy

  6. What beautiful sunsets! We live near a lot of Ocean State stores and they do have clearance sales on occasion (but usually there isn't much merchandise left to clearance). What a big, beautiful store! Our local stores tend to be much smaller but there are quite a few scattered around us.

  7. You must have been so proud! (And I am always picking peanuts out of the plants!)

  8. Such beautiful sunset photos, Debbie. So glad to see that you are recovering from your surgery, too. Your niece must be so proud of her daughter dancing at the recitals, and something to bring some light to their family situation. I will send healing prayers for your nephew. Good to see the old ToysRus building being used again. So many old stores stand empty these days. We have deer that eat everything, so I tried those little toy whirly-gigs and they work! Don't know it it works for groundhogs, but the vibrations might scare them away. Sending hugs xo Karen

  13. Debbie, I love your great-niece in her recital costumes!!! And she's only 14??! I really thought she looked much older. And since I am catching up on SYS from a couple of weeks ago, I am adding her photo for next week (#216) to share about your nephew. Touches my heart as both my parents succumbed to cancer... <3 Hope John is recovering well. <3

Love your new sun/birdbath (?) in the garden with its pink and blue swirls (like a big Charlie and the Chocolate Factory lolli)!!! The geese are cute, too. We had our first rabbit nibbling seeds and grass in the backyard last night after the storm... <3 Of course I ran and grabbed the camera!

    Hugs,
    Barb
