A Bit of Yellow in the Gardens, June Garden Update, 2021

 Welcome to Debbie-Dabble Blog!!

I am so happy you decided to stop by!!

I want to wish a Happy Father's Day to all the Dad's out there.....

I carry my Dad with me in my heart and think of him every single day.....

I wrote a post a few years ago about how he influenced me and helped me to become the strong, independent person I am today.....

Click HERE if you would like to read it.....

We are deferring our family Father's Day celebration until next Sunday due to certain circumstances that I am not at liberty to mention....

All is alright and we will get through it...

Today is also the first Day of Summer.....

This is the day that I truly do NOT celebrate and DREAD!!!!

The humidity and heat of the Summer is my enemy and turns me into a physical mess because of my Heat and Sun Sensitivity due to Auto Immune disease.....

I will be counting the days down until Fall which is my favorite Season of the year.....

I will be so glad when Fall comes!!!!

At least in the Fall, I can leave my home and go outside while in the Summer, I am stuck in the house with the air conditioners blaring.......

In my last post where I shared some Patriotic decorations in the Den.....

Click HERE if you missed it!!

I had mentioned that I was going to be sharing my Victorian Doll House, Nelson Crest, all decked out for the Summer Patriotic Holidays in this post.....

I decided to postpone it as there is still time before July 4th.....

Instead, I am going to be sharing how my Flowers are doing in my back yard Cottage Garden and in a few other places......

But first, a few Personal Notes.....

I do not like to shop online....

I do not even have an Amazon account!!

I know!!

You can get up off the floor now!!!

I will order on Amazon, through my son, when he gifts me a gift card which is what he did for Mother's Day....

Now because of heel and ankle pain and swelling from arthritis, spurs and auto immune disease, my days of wearing any type of shoes with heels or a back to them have been long over.....

I do wear Clark's mules but I mostly wear Easy Spirit mules....

I usually buy those through Boscov's online site but I found this pair on Amazon so I ordered them using my gift card.....

Since it is too painful for me to walk barefoot or even wear bedroom slippers for any great length of time, I always have a designated "House" pair of shoes.....

That means I treat them like bedroom slippers and do not wear them outside as we take our shoes off at the front door at our house.....

These are now my Summer "House" shoes as they are so comfy with padded soles and arch supports and even the inside of the strap is padded!!!!

You can see that even with just getting out of bed in the mornings when it is hot and humid, my feet are swollen.....

I just LOVE Summer....

NOT!!!!!

Therefore why I have worn nothing but shoes without backs for about the last 15+ years.....

Thanks, Joey!!

On Friday, Joey treated us to dinner from Buffalo Wild Wings which is located at the top of the hill where the entrance to our development is and across the road from Joey's apartment.....

Talk about convenience, huh???

Joe loves his chicken and that is what he got along with potato wedges.....

Just a little bit of chicken......lol!!

For a place whose name sheds light on what is their biggest seller, they sure do make a mean hamburger!!!

Joe rarely orders chicken from a restaurant so he always get the All American Burger....

I was never one to order burgers from places like McDonald's or Burger King as chicken or fish was my sandwich of choice....

BUT

I really love Buffalo Wild Wings burgers!!

I got the Avocado Bacon Burger.....

Minus the avocado smash, lettuce , pickles and the pico de gallo sauce.......all of which would sent my packing the ED!!

It was so good!!!

Thanks again, Joey!!!!

The week started with an unexpected guest on Monday......

Yes, little Faye, our Grand Pup, was here with us all week......

This is the first time she is up on this chair by my computer in the Den......

She discovered she can look outside through the window and the storm door......

She also discovered that that pillow is really soft and comfy.......

Yep, so soft and comfy that she is falling asleep!!

And out for the count which she does several times a day.....

But does not miss a trick!!

Her Mimi had the pleasure of sleeping downstairs on the sofa with her all week.......

She is a sweetie but at times when you are not paying attention to her, she has her moments.....

Like this one when she absconded with a flower from a floral arrangement in the Den....

She looks like she is going to dance the Tango with that flower between her teeth......

You can always get her to drop it with bribery....offering her a cookie.....

She LOVES laying out on the back Patio in the Sun......

Right by my feet I may add......

When she gets too warm, she moves into the shade......

She was able to go back home on Saturday.....

June is the month when the Missouri Primrose that I planted in my back yard Cottage Garden starts to bloom......

It spreads quickly and if I do not thin it out, it would take over the entire yard......

I wish it would stay in bloom longer than it does.....

On the left side of the arbor along with some rose campion which is also blooming with pretty pink flowers.....

There are Asters that will bloom with a deep purple flower in the Fall interspersed among the Missouri Primrose.....

I am very happy with how this area is looking this Season.....

I am so glad that I decided to hang my flower bags that I planted with impatiens on the arbor instead of the fence gate in the back of the yard.....

They are doing well.....

As are the petunias planted in the pot inside of the coal bucket.....

The impatiens inside of the vintage watering cans are also spreading out....

There are Missouri Primrose planted on the right side of the arbor too....

Also planted on each side of the arbor is Loosestrife which will soon bloom with a purple flower.....

Joe ripped out the one I planted on this side last year, thinking it was a weed.....

Luckily, I was able to transplant another one here this year and Joe is no longer allowed to touch anything in the garden!!!!!

The back corner.....

The one thing I like about pots is that you can move them around when need be.....

I have since moved some of these pots around twice which I will be showing you a bit later on.....

More Missouri Primrose and Rose Campion blooming in the middle section of the garden between the 2 walkways.....

Some Lamb's Ear, which Joe hates as it attracts Bees which he is deathly afraid of.....

Every year, he tries to get me to pull them out so this year, I transplanted MORE of them from my neighbor's front yard!!!

This Lily was gnawed down to nothing last year by some unknown critter......

Here it is this year, just starting to bloom!!!!!

And now with 3 blooms opened!!

You can see that the Shasta Daisy that I grew from seed last year is also getting ready to bloom......

That big bush on the left is also a loosestrife.....

The begonias are doing well in the pot under the Tree.....

The columbine is done blooming......

The impatiens and marigolds are spreading nicely in the bird cage and bird bath....

I also have Loosestrife and will be planting this Shasta Daisy, that I grew from seed,  here in the ground and transplanting a large begonia into this galvanized bucket.....

Those are Asters which will bloom in the Fall with light lavender flowers....

The rocks that I put in my flower pots have prevented the squirrels from burying the peanuts in that my neighbor insists on putting out for them but it has not deterred the chipmunks......

Little buggers!!!!

Since it is close to July 4th, many nurseries and places that sell flowers are closing them out for the Season now.....

Joe bought all of my flowers this year at Malacari's which is a locally owned little grocery store right down the road from us.....

They too are selling off the flowers that they had left.....

I gave Joe money and he came home with these beauties which were only $4.99 in those large pots!!!!!!!!

Now you see what I mean about being able to move pots around!!

These large Coleus plants were only $3.99!!!!

This one went here along with some other pots I moved......

See it on top of the old Milk Bottle Box.....

And this one....

Went here in the corner of the Patio.....

These massive begonias in hanging pots for a mere $1.99!!!!!!!

They were too big for those little hanging pots.....

So I transplanted one of them into this pot......

And will be transplanting the other one into that vintage galvanized bucket after I transplant the daisy that is currently growing in it into the ground.....

I also moved a few other pots around.....

How it looks now with some new pots moved around....

I will be sharing more about this in my next garden update.....

Since the title of this post is "A Bit of Yellow in the Gardens", I am sharing a few more yellow flowers.....

On the front slope.....

The one type of Sedum is blooming.....

This is a great ground cover that spreads quickly.....

I will be transplanting more of this on the left side of the slope where Joe used weed killer last year in an attempt to stop the spread of weeds from the house next door to us.....

Here's what it looks like front the top of the slope, looking down....

And underneath the park bench in the top flower bed.......

And some over here.....

I also want to share how the flower bed that I created and just landscaped this year is coming along....

You can see that the Missouri Primrose that I also planted in the front area several years ago is blooming.....

There are also Asters that will bloom in the fall planted among the Primrose

  1. I love summer as long as it's not so unbearably HOT. We don't have humid summers here - it's just HOT and DRY. Next week they are saying we may get up to 120 degrees. I think they are free mongering but we'll see. You'll catch me inside where it is nice and cool (if they don't shut off the power) and sipping something cold and icy.

As always, your photos are breathtaking. Beautiful garden you have.

  3. Gosh, your flowers are so goregous and the yellows are so cheerful! I love the mules. Unfortunately I really need to try shoes on. My feet have "changed" over the years and in the good old days, I just went to a shoe store. All the shoe stores in our area (except Walmart - not a shoe store) have closed. I am just not comfortable ordering on line. Hopefully if the world behaves by fall, I can talk Mr. Merry into taking a very long car ride to a DSW quite a distance away and I can try on different brands and figure out my size.

I like summer from out the window of our air conditioned rooms! My hubby takes care of our lawn and flowers so I can just sit on the porch in the evening and enjoy them. Unless there are bugs. Then I never leave the house. Fall is my favorite season too!

  4. Your yard always has lovely flowers, I am so sorry that you can't enjoy them like you would like to. I can't take the heat like I used to be able to, but thankfully every now and then it cools down enough in the mornings sometimes to enjoy it!

  6. With your health issues it's very understandable why you dislike summer, but in spite of that you have created "a joy to behold"! Debbie, your cottage garden is just beautiful.
I really like your "house shoes".
And that was so cute about Faye playing with a flower! Maybe she was trying to garden like her Grandma..
Do take care and hopefully you can enjoy your yard in the mornings.
    Blessings, Linda

  7. Those take away meals look so tasty yummy. Your grand dog is a delight, such a cuties sleeping in the chair. All the hard work in your garden is worth all the effort, you have been rewarded with a stunning display of colour, a true feast for the eyes.

  8. Absolutely beautiful! The cottage garden you have created is breathtaking!
My 2 favorite spots at your house are the cottage garden and the kitchen. I love to just “sit” in these 2 spots and slowly let my eye roam around and find familiar favorites and discover a few new future favorites. It’s like playing, I spy with my little eye.😉
Thank you for sharing your home, family, thoughts and time with us. You will truly never know how much it means and what joy you bring❤️
Oh and little Faye is as cute as a birthday cupcake! I think maybe she is trying to help you decorate by rearranging some flowers.
    Blessings to you

  10. You are loaded with color, indoors and out. Wow! (You must have a back and knees of steel with all that gardening!). But it looks terrific and happy.

  11. Beautiful garden Debbie. I am slowly adding flowers to our new place. That little Grandpup is just the cutest. Loved that she likes flowers also.Joe on the lambs ears but not because of the bees. Fr some unknown reason I do not like the flower. Love the silver velvety leaf but ones it flowers I just think they look terrible. WE have lots of bees in our flowers this year i see. One of the neighbors across on the other side of our circle brought a hive home this year to raise bees. Have to say they are really taking to my veggie plants and I have all kinds of veggies forrming I will be picking soon. WEll off for the night here. Had cataracts removed one on the 3rd and the other n the 11th and eyes tire fast on the computer so am limiting my times. Have a great week.

  12. Hi Deb - love your garden and I REALLY want the glass ball decorations! I'm a bit of a glass ball fanatic (we have a collection of coloured glass floats in netting - (like they use for fishing but so much prettier) hanging in our balcony and glass solar lights in the back garden. Your flowers are certainly blooming and you're doing well to keep it all so beautifully maintained. BTW that little dog Faye is just soooo sweet and I really like your new indoor shoes xx

  13. What beautiful gardens! I have never had a McDonald's or fast food burger BUT I do love ordering burgers from other "real" restaurants. My favorite is called the Vermont Cheddar burger from Pub 99 with a sweet maple/mayo dressing on it. Yum!

  16. Debbie, every plant is sooo pretty and Joe did a great job picking out the sale flowers!!! Ours never seem to really go on-sale, only when they are half dead will Lowe's go to measures to get something for them. Maybe I just don't go at the right times, I don't know. Oh! Did you get new neighbors?? I just thought of how the place next door was when they finally de-camped. Hope they are nice!

Happy to feature your sweet summer garden update at tonight's Share Your Style #308 for you, <3
Big hugs and keep cool! Like the new shoes!! I know about bone spurs... Ugh! :(
