Spring Flowers in the Front Yard....

  Welcome to Debbie-Dabble Blog!!

I am so happy you decided to stop by!!

Today, I will be sharing my Spring flowers on the Front Porch and in the Front Yard....

I am still taking pictures with my old camera so I apologize in advance for the poorer quality....

When I was taking these pictures, I noticed this!!!

Yes, I have still been fighting the Battle against the squirrels as my neighbor continues to throw out bags of peanuts in his back yard regardless of our HOA rules!!!

BUT.....

I think I finally found the solution as to stopping them from digging in my flower pots and destroying my flowers.....

I am going to give it a bit more time before I reveal what I did because I want to make sure that it actually worked....

So stay tuned.....

If you would like to see the post on how I decorated the Front Porch for the Spring/Summer Season, please click HERE if you missed......

Some of these pictures were taken in the day when the front of the house is in the shade and some in the evening when the Sun finally makes it around to the front of the house.....

After this Winter, the 2 black urns that I had in front of each pillar of the porch bit the dust.....

I replaced them with what I already had.....

I simply moved the square planters that were in front of the railing and placed them in front of the pillars.....

And I replaced those in front of the railing with 2 pots that I got from my neighbor when she moved last year....

I decided to have Joe once again buy my annual flowers this year as I knew if I went to a Nursery or Garden Center, I would spend a fortune as flowers are my weakness....

In keeping with my goal of not spending money needlessly, I wanted to stay under a total of $75 for annuals between the front and back yard....

Joe went to a locally owned small store that is a grocery and meat market, called Malacari's....

It is 5 minutes from our house...

They have a greenhouse on the side of the building and are getting trucks of flowers in 3 times a day from local Nurseries.....

Joe bought these to start from the list I gave him.....

There are 9 plants in these flats and they were $3.49.....

When all was said and done, I only spent $57 on all my flowers!!!!

And that was the money that I was gifted by Jim and Danielle and also what I won on the Lottery tickets that they gifted me.....

Over the years, I have learned that by planting all my own pots, to plant sparingly because flowers grow and spread and you do not want them choking each other out in the pot.....

I planted one spike and 2 yellow and 2 orange marigolds in the square planters.....

You may remember last year, I shared how I "elevated" my solar lights so they would not get lost when the flowers start to grow.....

I used a piece of rebar and PVC pipes....

Click HERE if you want to see how I did it.....

I planted 2 impatiens in this pot on the porch.....

I once again stuck with my red, yellow and orange color theme for the front porch as it makes it easy to transition into Fall.....

In the corner of the porch......

I planted one impatien in this pot....

And one coleus in this one......

In the pots in front of the railing......

I planted 2 yellow and 2 orange marigolds in each pot....

Last year my marigolds did so well that I never had to buy Mums for the Fall!!

And I did the same thing as I did with the other square planter...1 spike, 2 yellow and 2 orange marigolds.....

The small flower bed under the Living Room window.....

I planted 3 red and white impatiens in each of the pots on the side of the bird bath.....

I also lost the 2 large urns that I had rescued from the trash at our church 7 years ago and had on this retaining wall between my property and my neighbors.....

Again, not wanting to spend any money replacing them, I decided to use the long planter that I had had between the urns and moved the other long planter that I had had on the other side of the flower bed over to the retaining wall.....

For the last few years, I planted red begonias in these planters but Joe could not find any and showed me a picture of the coleus that they had in stock.

I had used coleus in these planters several years ago as it also does well in the shade so I decided to go with something different this year and plant coleus again in these long planters.....

I planted 4 each in a staggered line just like I planted the begonias in past years as I know coleus grows quite a bit and spreads out.....

And now to the flower bed at the top of our slope that runs along the front of our townhouse....

The Azaleas and my Rhododendron are in full bloom.....

Love the color of this pink one.....

I planted one yellow marigold in this pot in the bike planter.....

A view from the side.....

I wish they stayed in bloom longer.....

In this picture the rhododendron was just starting to bloom.....

And here it is now.....

Even though we have to trim it every year, it still puts on quite a show!!

My chippy Angel......

My faux mailbox.....

A solar light shovel that I moved from the back yard.....

One impatien planted in a vintage watering can......

And this azalea looks so soft and fluffy, doesn't it???

My park bench and lantern.......

I planted 2 yellow and 2 orange marigolds in this larger black pot on the park bench......

And 2 red and white impatiens in this smaller black pot.......

This red azalea is the first to start to bloom and this picture was taken when it was in full bloom......

It has started to lose it's blooms now.....

A look at our slope from up above.....

And down in the parking lot......

Hoping the the phlox we planted on the left side will start to spread out to replace what we lost from Joe putting weed killer on that side to stop the spread of weeds from the house next door.....

I hope you enjoyed seeing how I planted the pots in the front of our townhouse for this year.....

I will be sharing how they are growing at intervals through out the Summer.......

I also want to share how my Lilac tree looked in full bloom which was a bit early this year because of higher than normal temps.....

Looking down from the upstairs Sitting Room window......

Now all the blooms are drying up and blowing all over my Patio!!!

In my next post, I will be sharing how I planted the annuals in my back yard and how my little Cottage Garden back yard is coming along..........

So I hope you will stop by to visit again soon!!

Stay safe, healthy and most of all, HAPPY!!

  2. When I saw the first pictures I thought "What a riot of color" and I really mean that as a compliment. I just love it. I usually stick to pinks and lavenders with a few yellows here and there - but your reds, oranges and yellows really pop! I love it! I know how much work it is to plant and put that all together. You did a fantastic job! And the views from your windows? I feel like I am in a French garden. So pretty!!!

How is the work going on the neighbor condo? I hope it is proceeding! And the guy with the peanuts - what an idiot. I hate it when people don't follow the rules. We have neighbors playing games with a gigantic camper. It is in the cul de sac right now while they clean it from the weekend, but they will soon illegally park it in their front yard, putting it on full view. Meanwhile they won't be able to park moms, dads, oldest son, youngest son and daughter's cars in the driveway so our street will be full. There is a sister in law that must work up here in the summer and she is here with her truck, too. Music blaring and lots of motors racing. All the kids have graduated. I keep hoping they will fly the nest soon.
